Does the line also appear if you plug it directly into a TV or monitor?

I would suspect it's just a faulty camera... the effect has nothing to do with TVL.

Yes.

With that camera, there's always a black line,

no matter where U plug it.

I'm planing to buy another pair of cams but in my country

I have a lot more choice of 420tvl than bigger tvl cams.

The only reason I didn't do it yet is that black line.

So if I get it right,

every cam that is plugged in the dvr should be fully stretched on screen

or not?

Its normal to have black borders from certain cameras on certain DVRs.

at least in D1.

Try 640x480 or less to maybe get rid of it.

in D1 the DVR may be cropping it to 704x480 or the chip itself may do that.

Either way, I see it all the time, varies between different chips and different DVRs.

Does that include plugging the camera straight into a TV or monitor?

You're really not losing anything with 420 vs 480 vs 600. It may be a measurable difference, but not noticeable in most cases. NTSC video standard is limited to 480 vertical lines of resolution anyway, so anything over that is essentially wasted.

The only reason I didn't do it yet is that black line.

I wouldn't get hung up over that thin little line. As Rory says, it's probably a glitch you sometimes see with certain camera/DVR combinations. Or it could just be that one camera is faulty. Either way, it's not like you're losing anything.

Tv Yes.

From the technical side maybe the lens mount is not centered on chip I'll try to fix it when I got time.

Tnx all for the info.

I just wasn't sure if this is normal for a low tvl cam.

Lens not being centered would not produce a straight, hard-edged line like that... if anything, it would be a curved, soft-edged area.

My bet is still on a faulty camera.

Than You for the info.

I think I don't have the option to switch to 640x480

Here's some pic of dvr configuration

As mentioned its normal depending on the DVR and Camera.

I first saw this with OEM Pano CCDs on GeoVision, since then also seen it with Sony HQ1 on another DVR, and other chips on other DVRs.

Something to do with compatibility issue between camera chipsets and DVR chipsets.

here is one example:

And some results from GeoVision tech support, which might also help explain your issue even though its a different DVR:

Bought another camera to play with it (black line on the edge)

1/3" 420 tvl

and found out why the black line is on the edge

Well the new one say PAL:512(H)x582(V) on the white cam specs say's just PAL

But the two gray cam are PAL:752(H)x582(V)

Problem solved (no black lines on right side)

Old cam 3 & 4 have a resolution PAL:500(H)x582(V) & PAL:512(H)x582(V)

Now all 4 cams are 600tvl with resolution PAL:752(H)x582(V)

cam 1 & 3 disabled IR (color 24h)
