TVL relation to PAL/NTSC resolution

Hello, buds!

 

The analog CCTV cam resolution is measured in TVL as we know but sometimes there is this NTSC and PAL resolution mentioned in specification. Example: CAm with 700 TVL has got 1020x596 PAL resolution. If 700 is horizontal lines, than why 596?

596 is probably the vertical lines. Most camera specs list the horizontal lines before the vertical lines.

 

Interesting image sensor you have there, 1020 x 596? Who makes it?

And also, typically, PAL standard always had higher TV lines in exchange for the useless 5 FPS that NTSC uses.
