Camera is blurry during night time - help

Recommended Posts

Hi all i installed a Vonnic VDC509WH camera in front of my house.

http://www.vonnic.com/proddetail.asp?prod=VCD509WH

Everything works perfect during the day but as soon as dawn hits and the IR lights turn on, it gets blurry. It almost appears as if the cover is severely scratched but it's not. I had the same camera located elsewhere and put that cover over the problematic camera and same issue. I see hairline scratches reflected.

With the camera on, i rotated the cover and i saw the blurryness/scratches on the cover rotate with it.

Does anyone have any advise? Please see the screenshot attached.

Thanks in advance!

This is me in front of it. Looks fine up close, no blurriness.

This is me rotating the cover. Notice how the hairline scratches move with it. I put this same cover on another camera and it's fine.

I'm not an expert but have recently had problems with night vision, that I posted on here. Your images look similar to the problem I was having (though i didn't get the oil slick effect you have). I cleaned the lens / glass with meth spirit and last night I had crystal clear images. Might be worth a try?

Thanks for the reply. I cleaned it yesterday but its still happening. As a test i swapped the cover of the problematic camera to another location camera (same model) and it was fine! I swap it back to it's original camera and blurriness/scratches appear. Of course, without the covers the picture is fine.

Maybe it's the focus? Anyone else know an OSD option that might help this?

That's IR Reflection.

You need to add something between the lens and the cover. (I used black foam)

Black foam shaped as a ring around the lens will be good enough?

Yes. you can try rubber or anything easy.

I first tested with electrical tape.

I added the extra foam around the ring and its perfectly flush against the cover but i still get the IR reflection.

As it's looking over your driveway, you don't have any other light sources nearby do you like a wall light, door lantern, security light, etc?

It might not be the IR. I had a similar problem that was caused by a PIR activated night light located near a dome camera.

That definitely looks like ir bleed. Maybe the foam that you added didn't seal all the way around. Even the most minor ir bleed will make the view look like crap!
