IP camera(s) connected to NVR (no router)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can i configure ip cameras to my NVR without having a router in place. The reason i am asking is that i have nearly completed an install to a new property, currently has no telephone\Broadband installed as yet.

Regards

Vic

I think you actually mean a modem or internet. YES, you can configure IP cameras without a modem/internet, you need either

a switch or router to plug all the cameras into the network. With out a router assigning IP's, you need to manual configure

each cameras IP, which I always do even if there is internet.

sure...if your nvr has open Ethernet ports. You don't need to be connected to a router..

If it's one of the Hikvision or Dahua NVR's with the PoE ports, then the NVR does have an internal router for the cameras that's not easily accessible from outside the NVR anyway.

Thanks Luckyfella, I have installed external CAT5E cable and ordered a POE Switch that will send enough power to each of the cameras.

Thankyou all for all your advise, much appreciated.
