FPS & Quality settings for new basic Synogy Surv Stn install

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

We've got a budget Synology NVR going in for a client's existing cameras. Full Spec will end up as this:

Synology DS214+ NAS running latest Surveillance Station, and doing nothing else.

2 x 3TB WD Red drives in RAID 1.

NAS specs for running as an NVR are:

Total FPS (H.264)

480 FPS @ 720p (1280x800)

160 FPS @ 1080p (1920×1080)

120 FPS @ 3M (2048x1536)

70 FPS @ 5M (2591x1944)

Total FPS (MJPEG)

270 FPS @ 720p (1280x800)

135 FPS @ 1080p (1920×1080)

90 FPS @ 3M (2048x1536)

60 FPS @ 5M (2591x1944)

Network switch is TP Link Gigabit switch.

There are 5 cameras:

2 x Foscam FI8905W 640x 480 (300k)

2 x Foscam FI8918W 640x 480 (300k)

1 x Heivision 2.0 1600x1200 (Up to 30 frames per second in all resolutions ranging up to 1280x960)

If we run everything full time, in H.264, am I right in thinking we can run everything (1x 2MP, plus 4 x 300k) at 15FPS pretty happily, and still be comfortable for playback?

Not looking for a too detailed response, but IP cams are something we don't do that often, and just want to know basic specs will be good to go.

thanks

Dom
