Why does Hikvision change the timestamp from black to white?

Recommended Posts

The way that they do it is a dumb way to keep you always being able to see it.

First of all, it's kind of a stupid algorithm that changes it from black to white (or vice versa) when the background doesn't warrant it. It's also distracting when you are watching a live feed or a video and looking for the motion and keep noticing the changing colors of the time stamp. And it's just ugly when it isn't uniform.

Why don't they just outline it with a 1 or 2 pixel border of a different color? That way it could be seen on any color background and there would be no need for these weird hybrid, some numbers are all black and some numbers are all white thing.

Even better would be if they outlined it and made it semi-transparent.

You can set it to transparent on the config. I agree that it should not be so hard to make a setting on the config so the white/black changes can be disabled, but it has never bothered me too much.

You can set the size of the data/time. I make mine pretty small so it's barely visible. I bought a camera to record video, not time and my NVR software can time stamp video on export if I need it to be.

Well, I just hope they fix it in the next firmware because it's really ugly when it looks like this:

I doubt they will. It has been this way for as long as I can remember. Nothing to fix when there is nothing broken...

Doh! You're right; don't know how I missed that. No release notes, unfortunately, but those should show up before too long.
