Cabling for Residential Cameras

Recommended Posts

I've asked several installers about the type of Cat 5e/6 cable that they use for residential deployments. All of them said standard Ethernet. I asked whether plenum cable is necessary for a residential installation and they said no. I've seen some differing opinions.

What type of Ethernet cable should be used for residential runs?

thanks....

Plenum cable is only used in areas where air exchange or circulation takes place, which is most commonly the space above a drop ceiling. These areas are generally wide open and have little or no fire breaks. Since residential construction does not use these some methods of building, plenum cable is not required for 99% of residential work. I have heard of people asking for it, simply because they wanted it, but as far as the code goes... not required.
