jamesmcuk 0 Posted June 19, 2014 Hi Guys I am looking at getting a WD1 capable DVR but I cant seem to find any solid information on my question which is: If i get the said DVR is it worth buying cameras over 700TVL and if not why are they making 800 and 1000 TVL cameras. I know the quality of sensor and chipset etc can make a much bigger difference but assuming all those were equal, then is it worth getting anything over 700TVL. thanks in advance James Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Yes, getting a 1000TVL (probably really 960 TVL) you will see an improvement although you need to be weary as one manufacturers 1000TVL looks about as good as anothers 480TVL. Many thanks James I'm not an expert but I believe WD1 = 960H. The TVL count is for horizontal lines. I think you will notice a different if you go from 700 to 1000 TVL, but the question is how much sharper is it really? I would purchase one of each camera and compare side by side. SunnyKim 2 Posted June 20, 2014 Cyannide, You are correct. TVL applies for analog camera, not for HD kinds of IP Camera. TVL is for the Horizontal pixel resolution, not for vertical line resolution, which is quite misleading. The new WD1 is wider than the conventional D1 size. jamesmcuk 0 Posted June 26, 2014 Thanks to everyone for all the replies. I took your advice and plumbed for the 1000TVL cameras. I also bought the cheaper 700 TVL cameras for a friend who didn't want to spend the extra cash. I put them side by side on my system and his 700TVL CCD Camera was not as good as my 1000TVL CMOS Camera so all in all a good result and I am pleased I took your advice and went for the better cameras.
