Video file size

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Just wanted to know if there is a way to calculate the file size of the 24 hours avi video when extracting from the NVR. the source video is H.264 1280x720 15fps no audio.

thanks!

AVI format is just a wrapper, carrying file header information, for Windows Application: Therefore, slightly larger than originally compressed file, say H.264 compressed in your case. But for easy & smooth handling, it is better to divide a huge compressed file into many small files of a small scale time unit, say 5 minute. My calculation goes as following. 2 Mbit per second X 3600 seconds X 24 Hours / 8 (bits to a Byte) == 21.6 Giga Bytes. 2 Mega Bits Per sceond is assumed for Max Supreme Quality for 720P at 15 FPS on average.

As SunnyKim says, the only thing that matters is the bit rate and whether it's fixed or variable.

If it's fixed bit rate, you calculate it just as he showed. If it's variable, it will depend on how much motion and complexity there is in the scene. On most cameras, the bit rate sets the maximum for VBR, and scenes with little motion or complexity will have lower bit rates.
