Geovision very poor quality image

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a Geovision GV600. The image quality I get is extremely poor - see example at the following link -

http://www.strathblanefield.org.uk/geo.avi

When I hook the camera up to a normal TV set, the image is great.

I have been through this forum and searched elsewhere but haven't got any idea what the problem could be.

Anyone got any ideas?.

I am running Version 8 of the software.

Thanks,

Alan.

Is it just me or does that link lead to an avi file that plays nothing?

seems to work for me maybe you don't have the proper codec...

ideas for the poor quality under "system configure"... "rec control"... "recording quality:" is set low on that camera or the video source is set to 320x240 on the geo system and you are recording at 640 in the "system configure" screen but I'm not really sure you can do that has I haven't tried that....

Thanks js,

I have already tried your suggestion.

The resolution setting is something that concerns me.

The camera I have says it is 420 lines or effective pixel PAL 628x582.

Geovision has no such setting.

Could this be my problem? I'm not convinced as, looking at different cameras on the internet, 420 lines is fairly common.

Thanks,

Alan.

The camera looks slightly out of focus to me? Also you can't compare a live image to a recorded image. The recorded image is heavily compressed no matter what you do unless you recorded raw AVI files which would fill up your hard drives(s) in a very short time.

The camera image just looks like it came from a cheap camera?

Most compression chips don't support sending 420 lines and most encoders don't support writing to 420 lines. So even though you see cameras with 420 lines, you won't see software the explictily supports 420 lines. Or 430. Or 440. or 450....
