Please help me figure out a better IP camera solution.

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

5 months ago, my condo building in sort of an industrial neighborhood of San Francisco hired a company to install 15 IP cameras on our property, with an NVR. He used all LTS Security gear.

For the outdoor cameras - there are 5 of them in total - he used these cameras: http://www.ltsecurityinc.com/ip-network-bullet-camera-cmip8232.html

Those outdoor cameras are kinda low, and one of our homeowners is moving the camera that's near his entryway with a broom - not a crime, but seriously annoying. I'm trying to figure out a solution, as I think that using bullet cameras at such a low height is generally a bad idea in a hood such as ours.

So I was thinking that using dome cameras in those 5 outdoor locations might work better for us, but my installer says that due to UV damage to the outer plastic lens, that those cameras would be garbage after 2 years or so. Is this true? Is that lens not replaceable? Is there a better solution that I should consider?

Any assistance will be hugely appreciated!

- Thanx

- Jon

Look at a turret style camera. The ball is locked in place by a screw.

Thanks for the response. We have a few of those too, but indoors. Would that work as an outdoor camera?

yes, its outdoor rated just like the bullet or dome. The dome will work as well, but presents issues of ir reflection if not properly mounted and positioned.

I agree with Boggieman, bullet and turret are best use outdoor. Mounting dome outside is a little tricky. Better if you use tamper with audible alarm if possible.

Hi,

Using a good dome camera might help. I have been using mono dome D25 CCTV camera ( http://www.technowavegroup.com/security/cctv/mono-dome-d25 ) of Technowave Group,Dubai for my backyard since 2 years and its working perfectly well. It contains weatherproof facilities with lenses from super wide angles to tele lens. If interested I can provide you the specifications of my camera.

Hope this might help!
