Best Home CCTV System

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Apologies if this is in the wrong slot.

Was looking for a section on home cctv system, but there doesnt seem to be one on AV forums. Or, if there is, somebody please point me in the right direction.

I've seen plenty of Hikvision and Hiwatch (made by Hikvision) for sale and wanted to know if anyone can testify to the quality and functions, features of both?

Or, if anyone knows of any good reliable brands of cctv to check out?

As for budget, was hoping to get the full kit for £200 possibly ?

I only need night vision 2 cameras (2.4mp or 5mp), 2 cables and the 4 channel DVR unit. Nothing extreme, as its for a small property. Just want it to run in the background either continously or motion detection.

As for cameras theres dome and bullet, so whats the best and why?

As for DVR hdd, whats the difference between desktop hdd and surveilance hdd?

Thanks for reading.

Hi. Your budget is a bit low. You will get gray market hikvision for that .......but that is just wasting your budget.

Hikvision NVRs are not reliable and are old in tech.

For home applications, buy the cheaper ones, because you are the one who would install and manage them.

HikVison's should be OK. But Not OK reachable by any calls for tech service. So, not much meaning for Brands.

For night vision look at Dahua 2mp Starlight cameras and Hikvision Ultra lowlight cameras. Hikvision is top selling security camera and Dahua has moved up to number 2.

Bullet cameras have problems with spiders building webs in front of them, and domes sometimes have IR light reflection problems.

Look at turret/eyeball style cameras.

Both hik and dahua are far from being number one.

Shares have gone less than half the value.

Hikvision is top for having equipment replaced.

Dahua is closing country offices.

Starlight cameras are upto 8mp now flir have release the licence anyone can produce them

Lorex and many others made by Dahua. And Hikvision OEM's many others too.

You seem to make them seem like low quality manufacturers.

They are low quality. And like I said in first post old tech.

NVRs are limited. Which they always have been ...... But buying hik now is just wasting money.

There tvi systems are too old .... Other manufactures are upto 4K analog.

There NVRs have never sold well in the uk and even less now with all the hik problems.

Lorex are not a OEM
