Need advice on which IP cam

Hi Folks, I am now just getting around to purchasing a camera for my front door. Before, I jump on the DS-2CD2532F is there anything else I should consider? I am seeing a lot of "Amcrest" cameras being promoted on Amazon now. Should I be concerned about buying a Chinese version? Thanks!

Need advice on which IP cam

Thanks for the advice. I actually have a hikvision 3MP turret camera that covers my driveway and it's been great. I recall at the time, I was advised to go with this style of camera because the IR sensor was separate from the lense. Their dome camera which has a mic and speaker capability looks very attractive because of these two features alone - perfect for the front door!

Need advice on which IP cam

Hey guys, I am trying to figure out which style (bullet, dome, etc) and lense (2mm,4mm,6mm,etc) is best suited for the front door of a single story home? So far, I think the ideal setup is a dome style at 4 or 6mm. I would like to grab good detail of the person walking up to the door and when standing in front of the door, be able to see the person. The camera would be positioned off to the corner around the door frame. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for your response. The only reason I am interested in using Blue Iris is due to all the strong reviews but I guess I can use the built in HikVision software via the MP cam? A friend of mine said that some NAS units use a priority OS and when the HD crashes, it's almost impossible to recover the data due to this limitation. Is this true?
  6. Hi Guys, I am new to CCTV and IP cameras and would like to setup a NAS storage as well. Please tell me if this sounds possible...I am trying to avoid buying a dedicated DVR or even a PC and just have all my content recorded on a NAS (including other personal data,etc..), so I will effectively have one device that does it all for me. Now, how about if I want to run Blue Iris software? Do I have to have a machine manage that while everything is recording? Can these NAS devices load software as well since most of them are running some sort of OS (linux/VMware)? Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction!
  7. Hi, I am having some trouble finding a free app (iOS) that will connect to my Hikvision DS-2CD2332-I unit. What are you guys using? Thanks in advance!
  8. After reading this thread, sounds like I should keep my 5.1.0 on my 2332 CN camera. By default the language is in English...I thought it should have been in Chinese?
  9. Thanks. I get the dreaded "language version mismatch" message! What can I do about that?
  10. Hi Folks, I just received a HikVision 2332 dome style camera, which I believe is the USA version. It's current firmware is 5.1.0...is there a newer one available? Thanks!
  11. So, if I decide to install a PTZ camera would I need something more than a cat5e connection to make it fully functional? I'm thinking a single camera would need a single run of cat5e cable?
  12. Hi Guys, I am new to residential CCTV and could use some sound advice. We are remodeling our newly purchased home and have been thinking about installing a camera system. I started looking at offers from Costco (720p analog Qsee system) and then starting reading more about IP and SDI based systems. They do seem expensive when purchasing a complete kit, but from what I am reading now, some people have been able to piece together their own setup at a much lower cost basis. At this time, since we are making holes in the walls during our renovation, my thinking is to just pre-wire the system throughout the house (outside and in the attic). Which one wire (Cat5e?) could I use to satisfy the direction of my future CCTV system whether it be analog or digital? I don't want to limit myself by using the incorrect wiring and would rather do it right the first time. The cameras can come later as my budget allows. While on the topic, if you had to come up with your own "recipe" for cameras, software (alerting,etc..) and DVR unit, what would that look like (for IP cams)? Note, I am shooting for 4 -6 cameras in total. Thanks in advance!

    iPhone hookup

Hi Barb, Have you been able to upgrade to the newest version and test out the mobile login page? I am experiencing the same situation as well. Thanks, Eric
  14. Thanks for the help. I am going to take another crack at it tomorrow. Now do I have to do anything special in regards to the DNS registration? Thanks.
  15. Hi everyone, I am in Los Angeles and have a PC based EyeMax DVR system (OEM) running 16 cameras at a Mini-Storage unit. It's model DV-9120. I have SBC dynamic DSL (PPPoE) at the site. Now here is what I want to do: Currently with the DSL modem directly connected to the DVR box, I can use either the EyeMax client or even the web to view the cameras.....works great. Ok, but I also have two other machines the employees use and would like to give them internet connectivity as well. So, now we are behing a router and this is where the fun begins. I would like to note that I want to have remote control capability of every machine in the network (ie.PCanywhere or Dameware) and every machine (including the DVR from EyeMax is running XP HOME). I have read the Netgear setup info on this site (very helpful) and have now signed up at dyndns.org I am running the WGT316v2 router from Netgear (the one everyone hates) and it has the most recent firmware upgrade. Now, I understand the whole theory behind port forwarding and I have been trying to educate myself on routers and such the last couple of weeks. Though I wanted to ask the experts here on how they would go about setting up a similar system with everything that I want it to do? Here is a list of requirements: 1) Got to be able to access the DVR machine using the client software remotely behind the router (the client uses port 9091, but if I can see it from the web, then does it use port 80 as well?) 2) I have a router and need to get behind it to see the machines and use a remote program like PCAnywhere or Dameware. Sometimes these programs have problems resolving the user name and passwords, so any help here as well would be appreciated. 3) Is VPN an option here? My router allows VPN passthrough but it does not have a VPN option under the router's menu. Any help and direction would be greatly appreciated here. Thanks in advance. -Eric
