    Geovision and Via Chipset and free doughtnuts for all.

    The problem is a timing problem relating to the Hint PCI bus to PCI bus bridge chip that is used on the GV boards in order to run multiple capture chips on 1 board (ie more than 30fps on 1 board). That is why the GV-600 does not have the issue, because it uses only a single capture chip and does not have the Hint chip sitting on the PCI bus. Something tells me that if there were a workaround, GV would have done it by now. SIS and other chipsets work fine, we build GV based systems with AMD cpus all the time, using mainly SIS based boards. PS Some motherboards use a VIA chipset on the North bridge only, these boards WILL run fine with GV stuff, my own 16 channel system is running on a Abit board that uses an AMD south bridge and a VIA north bridge and it runs great, and has for the last 3 years.

Just buy a GV-600-4 port, its cheap and then you can see what GV is all about...it is a great product, I recently bought an ILDVR h.264 120FPS 4 port card w/audio, and technically the quality of the image is a little better than Geovision, but the s/w sucks and I ended up selling the client a Geovision instead. They really are miles ahead on their s/w. Anyone can make a capture card, its the s/w that sets it apart.
  3. ...turns out the manufacturer wanted to save about $.03 and left some DIP switches off...it took me a while, but I finally was able to remove 1 resistor from the board and now it works perfectly (AES was turned on permanently and needed to be turned off). Thanks for the response, BTW
  4. I recently installed some color domes in a retail store that uses metal halide lighting in the main retail area. In the back of the store is regular flourescents. The cameras in the retail area are constantly changing shades of colors and brightness. The same cameras are rock solid in the areas where the flourescent lights are. There is even one point where one of the cameras that is mainly under flourescents, you can see some of the halide light hitting part of a wall and the color changes are also noticable there, but only as a "shadow" on the wall, not the entire image like the other cameras. These are 1/3" Sony cameras, some with 6mm some with 4mm lenses. Other than this issue these seem to be relatively decent cameras for the price. Anyone have a clue what is causing this or better yet how to cure it? Thanks in advance...
