Odd problem with NV5000 and monitor resolution

1024 x 768 was what I always used on the tv being to the the VGA port the TV Doesn't see the Native resolution of the Viewsonic Wide screen (1440 x 900) as valid. However I have reverted back to an older version of the software & Drivers and it works again as it should. Since I have owned this card I have had to "jump through more hoops" to get it work stable or at all.... my next card will not be an Aver, I need something that is more flexible and consistent.
  2. I have a system that's been running for 2 years fine (until I mistakenly left the firewall off and it was hacked to run a game server in Albania) Long story short I had to format the drive and start from scratch (I did backup my DVR software settings before doing so). I had a bad experience the last time I tried to use Win 7, so I have a few copies of Win 8 pro I got real cheap and threw that on there) I downloaded the latest and presumably last version of the Software & driver for the NV5000 will ever get 7.700.23 I got it working running on my test bench connected to an old Viewsonic 19 lcd monitor, shut it down and put it back where I run it from normally (a bedroom closet connected to a Sony 42 in. TV) Turn it on and used the TV to verify it was working.... it hangs when trying to start the DVR software and then reboots. I tried for hours to get it working and finally blamed Win 8 Pro and went to back to XP Pro. So I plugged it back in the closet and I got a message the on the TV "Screen resolution needed to be set at 1920x1080, 1280x1024, 1280x720, 1024x768" I'd seen the message before (2 years ago) and set it to 1024x768 (as I use the VGA connection on the TV) Same story... worked fine on my test bench but hangs on DVR system start and reboots when connected to my TV. Tried remotely logging in from another PC and it still does the same thing. Finally I pulled it, brought it back down to the test bench and continued to have problems until I set the Monitor reslouton to 1400 x 900 (the native resolution of the old Viewsonic 19 lcd monitor) and it starts up fine. I tried to re-deploy the system and leave it disconnected from the TV, but even if I remote into the computer it changes the screen resolution and the crap starts all over again. I'm considering going back to an older version of the DVR software that is was running before, but I shouldn't have too.... Anybody have any Ideas that would "fix" this weird problem (buying another DVR card for $700-$800 doesn't apply here) Thanks

    Webviewer & Windows 7

Thanks for the replies Yes the system was built 3 yrs ago, but I've re-installed the OS since then, most recently last month when I replaced the Mainboard, CPU and ram. Though active x maybe an issue over time, but thats not the case here. It turns out it permissions, but IE can't be run in compatabilty, but I can perform a "Run As Administrator" and it will install and run successfully that way, but I have to check the security settings in IE as it will not run at all unless I always perform a "Run As Administrator" evertime time. it will just lock up IE. Thanks for the lead.

    Webviewer & Windows 7

I'm not sure if this happens on Vista as I don't use it. When I set up my DVR system 3 or yrs ago I used Win XP, I never (and still don't) have a problem setting up the webviewer on a remote system running Winxp IE 8 or 7 loads up, installs the Webcam.cab and tada its done. But Under Win 7 I always get the same crap it will start the process acknowlege the Active X installer. request if it can install "C:\Program files (x86)\remoteAP\Webcam\bmp\bmp_20100513.exe" then stop with a message that it can't find "C:\Program files (x86)\remoteAP\Webcam\bmp\bmp_20100513.exe" What am I missing here?

    Windows 7 & NV5000

Tempting but as the Win 7 32bit never worked right, I'll avoid jumping to Win 7 64 til they get it working at all. Xp seems the only stable version at this time.

    Windows 7 & NV5000

Windows 7 Pro 32bit I've just formated and put on Winxp Pro and it runs fine AMD/Ati chipset and all. I guess I'll have to wait till the company / product has to matures a bit.

    Windows 7 & NV5000

Transferring my NV5000 from a older system to this: Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H AMD X2 2.9ghz (Dual Core) Can't remember exact model 6000+ or something 2 Gigs DDR2 800mhz Windows 7 Pro 32bit Running into silly problems with 7.7039 Installer (which is supposed to support Win 7) I run the installer: Asks me to specify which Card I have (I pick NV5000). It continues install and the stops with a Dialog about driver installation and to press continue if Win 7 stops with a "Signed Driver" Box. This I do and afterwards it requests to restart - so i comply. I have tried variations of this multiple times and the final result the same. After restart I check the Device manager and see 8 items that failed to install (4 Multimedia Video devices and 4 Multimedia Audio Devices) If i try to install the drivers manually by browsing the installer directory and choose the Drivers/5000 folder it will tell me it was unable to install the "WDM Argus Audio or Video Driver" because it can't find the file" Head scratch-er here - as it identified the Device by name and can't "find" the driver (which just happens to be in the very folder I pointed it too - or so you would think) It should be noted that the installer Drivers folder contains drivers for about 9 - 10 different cards. If I tell window to Find the Driver by itself it will identify and install drivers just fine - from one of the OTHER folders on the installer/Drivers that exist. At this point you would think all is solved - not so. If I try to start the DVR app it stops 3 errors Argus Device ID::0002 is missing error Unable to initialize Capture card error error (0x00) then it starts the DVR app and lets me Log in. Just for giggles I tried to import the settings I exported from the previous system and it comes back with an error "Unable to apply setting from a different device Maybe it me but shouldn't it "know" its from a NV5000? I can only suspect that the fact that the Installer couldn't or wouldn't install the drivers the first time could be the root of the problem - because allowing windows to find them by itself means it pulled them from the 6000 or NV folder or so other such card it found in the Installer/drivers directory. Which would make it logical for the DVR app to stop with initialization errors and complaints of the wrong device. Anybody have any similar situation?
  8. Well I appreciate the comments and suggestions, I will though give the newer board a test run and just for giggles try Windows 7 as well. I have nothing to lose other then a few recordings of the outside of my house. I do appreciate the point brought up about comparing the DVR Hardware requirements to a Gaming system. In my case I compare it to a CAD workstation as a CAD Drafter and PC Tech I have a very good grasp of the needs for my "Tool" and often use the "Gaming System" as an analogy as well. Solid Modeling, High Quality Rendering and Animation require a powerful system and a good CAD Video card to do the allot of the work. No gaming card could ever compete, as Games are based on a "Hollow world" where image maps are applied to faces. Unlike CAD Cards which are calculating Solid, multi-layered objects and intricate details. Which brings me to my point of utter confusion with Avermedia, for the price they charge for their products to only certify them to run flawlessly on ONE CPU manufacturer and ONE Video manufacturer screams laziness, not a well designed product. Its like saying your product is only guaranteed to work under very narrow "lab created" scenarios. Again this is why I did ask originally because I had read others had success "practicing Alchemy" outside the Avermedia Laboratories. But this is just my opinion and my needs are not as great as those who design and install systems that keep them off the unemployment line. But no matter where you stand it all comes down to Electricity flowing through silcon based hardware that can only understand Hexadecimal down to Binary code, which is in essence is 1011 0110 or better yet On or OFF. Thanks for the time and the lending your ear to my rant.
  9. I currently have a working DVR setup using the NV5000 on and AMD / Nforce 3 Main-board running Win xp Pro It's been running fine over a year now but I'm looking to give the Main-board to my 6 yr Daughter and upgrade the DVR to: Win 7 Pro 32bit (prefer 64) Gigabyte GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H (North Bridge AMD 785G & South Bridge AMD SB710) With a AMD AM2+ CPU After reading Avermedia's documentation... They recommend ONLY INTEL on ONLY Main-boards with Nvidia chipsets (perhaps they haven't heard of a little company called AMD) or the lesser known companies like ATI (aka AMD) or Via. They need to get out from under Intels thumb and make products that WILL SUPPORT other boards.... OK Sorry for the rant, just have this thing about narrow minded companies.... But the Question is Has anyone had problems or even tried this or a similar Setup. Thanks
  10. Like I said, its relative to your application. I fix computers on a regular basis and I can't count how many systems have hard disk failure due the system Never being shut down, regular people... they always tell me "my friend says never to shut off the computer, just leave it on" Who's stupid idea was that? If it ain't a server hosting a website or CCTV System for business or the like, then by all means shut it off. Perpetual motion = friction / ware and tare = Money to replace the parts. That ain't 2-3 cents an hour. Oh and I know you can tell the computer to turn the Drives and monitor off after a specified time (99% of average users don't know that) oh and btw there is also a setting in that area to let the system hibernate... As for the price of electricity in Buttfuk, nebraka / Idaho I seriously doubt that your electrical bills jumped from $80 a month to $300 with the same usage. So yea I do turn off lights, because if i don't I might wacked with a bigger bill. My needs are differn't then most, that doesn't make me stupid, perhaps I'm trying to take advantge of resources I have on hand rather wasting more my money to fill some elses pocket. My Electric company was bought by a company in the UK, who owns yours Obama? (free electricty for everyone) Like i said I ain't into Global warming / conservation - I'm into me and my wallet.
  11. While i do understand this is not a direct connection to Avermedia I know that they do monitor these forums and they have responed to me in the past. As for doing this "wrong" that is relative to your application, I'm using it on a residence, not a business so I don't require 24hr survelance. Its also better for the system as it will prolong the life of the system if it not running endlessly, watching me go to the mail box, goto the garbage can, etc. I also believe in going "green" as in the Green in my pocket (Global warming is BS) Up here in NY the electric company loves my money as much as i do, so i like to keep it from them when possible. Thanks.
  12. Gee is there somewhere I can post this question where Avermedia will at least Answer it....
  13. Using NV5000 and the latest version of the included DVR application (pulled it off the Avermedia website 30 days ago) PC is running Windows Xp Sp3 2.6ghz Processor, 2 gigs memory (2) HD 40 gig for OS / Apps 500gig for Video storage. To make it clear this system is for my Residence, at various times throughout the Day some one is home. So unless we are all out I don't need to run it all the time. I usually run it through the Night and depending on the day for a few hours. I want to schedule the system to Hibernate at times I know the system doesn't need to be on but have run into a "catch 22" situation I traced back to the NV-DVR app. If I send the system into hibernation it, after it wakes back up all the Camera's in the DVR App are washed out / green and the Application has to be restarted. This presents the main problem after 2 weeks of trouble shooting here is what happens... I go into Display Properties > Screen Saver Tab > Power Button > Hibernate Tab and tick "Enable Hibernation" I go into the DVR application and "login" choose exit and "login" again. After the DVR apps is closed if I Back into the Display Properties Hibernation is disabled. This ONLY happens when I close the DVR App. I have a program that i can set to Hibernate and wake-up on schedule as well as shut down and restart the DVR app, but do the fact the DVR app keeps disabling Hibernation the Program can't work correctly. I KNOW FOR A FACT this system is capable of running on a scheduled Sleep / wake cycle because prior to converting it to a CCTV DVR System it was a HTPC / PVR and it ran for well over a year Hibernating till the TV Tuner Application would wake it up to record a TV show and then go back into hibernation after the Recording were completed. That being said, i imagine the Displaying of hibernation must be written into the DVR app, and if so is there a registry setting or something i can do to disable this "Feature". Thanks in advance.

    Trougble getting webview setup

The camera are not Webcams, I don't use Skype or the like , this is a dedicated CCTV system. The port being open or closed shouldn't inhibit the Network Service from loading... What specific Service is to be loaded? This really shouldn't be a blocked port issue, I opened 5000-5555 on my router. Prior to this I had a DVR card that was setup with the ability to view my camera via the Web, so i know the system can, but i do need to know why and what specfic service is not loading to verify if its an installtion error or something else. Thanks
