Need help selecting a proper poe setup

Recommended Posts

hi everyone.

i need some help finding a proper system.

dvr/nvr must have

triplex capability

can be remotely accessed using utilizes MPEG4 or H.264 with or not client software/works on iphones.

video files that can be played by any normal Software/no extra plugin needed< not so important<

must be HD and 16 channel/include as many cams as possible, i can buy the extra

cams.

need 16 cams.

all but 2 cams will be in a small room, the 2 will be outside so need wide view for them, i can buy them.

need 2 cams that record audio or 1-2 mic that can record individually> front desk

2 of the cams will be outdoors, but that don't really matter because i can buy them individually.

must have space/capacity for future hdd upgrades, a 2,3 TB is fine for now i guess.

i wish to use existing Ethernet cables that are used for the terminals/ncomputing.

the Lorex LNR400 series seems nice.

local friend suggested on buying a nvr and some 5 port poe switches, not sure if best option.

any suggestion to a good nvr/dvr setup is much appreciated.

the space is a 2 floor building, only 1 cam will be on 2nd floor to monitor our server.

nvr/dvr will be on 2nd floor if depending if i can/can't use existing lan.

budget is about +/- 3000.00

thank you for any help you can provide me with.

Unfortunately, all of the POE solutions I have tried have had issues except the individual TP-Link POE injectors, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PS9E5I. I have several of these and they work reliably but they take a lot of space and a wall wart for each port.

I do have an 8-port POE switch I am using that I replaced another POE switch that failed. The new POE switch has been working for 6 months but I am only powering 3 devices off of it. When I power more than 4 devices it can't keep up.

I don't have it in service yet but I have all the pieces and I'm in the middle of putting it together to make my own solution. I purchased this 48v power supply http://www.amazon.com/Meanwell-NES-350-48-Power-Supply-OlympianLED/dp/B00L1GZIHW that I will use to power a couple of these passive injectors: http://www.amazon.com/WS-POE-8-ENC-Multi-Passive-Injector-devices/dp/B0075F7F2O. I'm mounting the whole thing in an electrical box similar to what the 12v camera power supplies come in. This will easily power 16 POE cameras with power to spare.

Also, let me make a suggestion about your point of putting the NVR on the second floor if you can use the existing LAN. You don't want to use your data and business LAN for video. Create a completely isolated LAN for your video system. YOu don't want cameras interfering with your business and you don't want business interfering with security. You can use a router to join the two networks for viewing online but if this is a business and critical you could consider a second Internet connection just for the video. If you're only looking at or storing a camera or two at a time online then the router joining the two networks would work well. I you're doing business online and looking at or storing 16 cameras on line you need to have a pretty healthy Internet pipe.

You will not saturate your lan with 16 cameras...not need for separate network unless you want to specifically create a vlan for security purposes...you can buy pre packaged ip systems from costco that will suit your needs..or you can buy hikvision or dahua that will fit your budget..either US sellers or direct from china via aliexpress (Cheaper but no warranty)...

Some NVR's have poe built in (usually noisy) others do not..if not you can buy a few of these

http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-SF1008P-100Mbps-8-Port-802-3af/dp/B003CFATT2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1422659194&sr=1-1&keywords=poe+switch&pebp=1422659005659&peasin=B003CFATT2

http://www.amazon.com/ZyXEL-8-Port-Unmanaged-Switch-GS1100-8HP-240W/dp/B00BPYOSOE/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1422659038&sr=1-4&keywords=poe+switch+zyxel

the benefit of multiple switches is that you dont need to homerun each camera to the NVR....

These switches are very reliable and you should not have any issues.
