  1. PoF or Power over fibre is coming ..... Has anyone here used the emerging products to run CCTV and power over the same cable ?

The advantage is that its immune to EMI / RFI / EMP and can be run through more electrically hazardous industrial environments.

Who has used it and which products / manufacturers did you find ?

  2. Bravo gz-cctv,

Very good attempt at trying to defame me on this post after I denied your constant requests to remove the post. You have quoted a few paragraphs from dozens of emails between us and then twisted the words and added a few of your own to make me sound like the bad guy which is just rubbish.

This is one of many emails that I received from you that I decided to respond to.

I have underlined the words that I would like to emphasize to people that read this.

If you can decipher the poor english, you would read "Warmly you to test".

I presumed this meant they were offering products for me to test first so I would continue purchasing from them.

My response and conversation continued with...

You can send me test samples of products that you think are suitable? as the previous cameras had to many issues, they were very hard to install, they cost me time as the cameras with IR would constantly cause reflection from the IR's at night meaning i have had to go back out take down the camera and replace

    Dear Simon,

Thanks so much for your response.

That no problem to send the free sample products for you.

By the way, samples of products that you think are suitable as the previous cameras ,do you mean need several products like your last order's analog cameras to test?

If so, i will make an application from the manager and try best to arrannge the sample products down to the Production department soonest. Please kindly inform me asap ,ok? Thanks again.

    Thanks in advance.

I am heading towards hd-sdi cameras if you think you have suitable products that can offer great picture at night with no IR please let me know

    Dear Simon,

    Thanks for your response.

That's ok, here confirm from you again,do you mean to send one hd sdi camera with IR , right?

If so, i would like to recommend one model: KHS-222SHR30 , this one popular with most customers, the quality very well.

If no problem, i will make the application and arrange the order down to the Production department today, ok? Please help to inform me.

    Many thanks.

    Thanks&Best Regards

    Thanks Simon kindness so much.

I dont want to boar everyone to death so Ill leave it there, but the emails continued back and forth while obviously getting more and more lost in translation.

I was assumed they were offering me products to test so I would continue purchasing from them. Not only is it impossible for me to remove this post, I never had any intentions to remove this post on their request, as I thought everyone should be warned about their dodgy products.

If anything they were trying to bribe me.

Its quite funny how Cantonk continue to insist that they CMOS boards didnt have a problem and they just need IR to work at night. Biggest load of crap.

I tried to convince them for months that the cameras had an issue, as a last resort I had to dismantle 12 of the cameras and send them back to Cantonk. Finally I got the answer I was looking for from the sales manager.

    Dear Simon,

Good day. Sorry for late reply due to there is a meeting with customers this morning.

Thank you for your help and sending these information.

I have sent the picture and video to our R&D check, and they found the version is old one from the OSD menu. So we will change 12pcs new CCD for you, it wil not have the problem you mentioned .

I will ask Jodie send back to you in time. Please install the new CCD in the camera.

We will keep you update once we send back the CCD for you.

Any question please feel free to let me know.

    Thank you.

    Best regards.

So to sum it up, I was right and they were wrong.

The updated boards did show a lot of improvement but they still have they flickering issue just no where near as bad.

Also why would a CMOS board have Day & Night setting options in the OSD if it did not have low lux functionality.

You lost a lot of money due to the problem which obviously was not caused by you or your power supply , if it was me in your situation I would call it a loss just from my labour of around $4-5000.

Cantonk should have compensated you , it would have been polite if they had given you a couple of thousand worth of stock which to them would only be a cost of maybe $500.

The wording you used sounded like extortion , where really it would have been a clever choice for cantonk to offer products to you as a win - win opportunity for you both.

It is typical from Chinese companies however when they sell you something faulty they duck and run or blame someone else , they just didn't learn yet that if they do the correct honest thing it is a great investment in marketing that can give 5 times increase in popularity that improves many more sales

  3. There are plenty of PLC products in the market now for IP CCTV transmission over power cables , but has anyone seen the same products in a standalone pack for BNC Coax analogue , AHD , TVI or SDI over power cabling ?

What is the simplest way to do PLC with analogue cameras ?

Hi. The problem is there all different formats. Cvi is digital at camera tvi is converted at dvr same as AHD and SDI

We have done it with cvi but it's expensive

Cheapest way and as most recorders are now full hybrid ....IP CVI TVI AHD SDI ...... Is to use IP over power were needed

    thanks Tom

Yes , The hybrids are attractive for their flexibility.

I am sure it wont be long before someone develops devices to do it for AHD / SDI etc but for now i will go with the IP over PLC or throw a few WiFi channels in the mix where cable runs are obstructed.

  4. Does anyone have a link to compatibility tables for network PTZ cameras with Blue Iris other than their website ?

The Blue Iris website does have a list of products and brands but its very incomplete and it mentions in places that PTZ may not work with some cameras.

Blue iris offer a trial version but thats not helping me choose which cameras to buy.

I would like to get a couple of auto tracking motion detect PTZ domes so they can be programmed to zoom in on anything that moves , auto focus , hold the shot or follow the target for a few seconds and then move back to wide angle shot until the next motion event.

I also have vivotek FD8164 , Hikvision DS-2CD1141-I and DS-2CD2142FWD-I cameras to use on the same system.

Has anyone used auto tracking PTZ with Blue iris and advise of issues , or advise which PTZ dont work ?

Next question , will Blue Iris allow motion detect to work with all brands of camera ? , i have previously tried vivotek FD8164 cameras through a POE switch on to a Hikvision 7616 NVR but found that motion detect and VCA wont work on the NVR despite both devices claiming ONVIF compatibility.

  5. Yes one cat5 from your switch to the NVR. Many NVRs now come with a POE port for each camera channel, thereby eliminating the need for a standalone switch. But so long as camera and NVR are on the same network, it really doesnt matter how the cable configuration is set up.

Okay but if you have say 12 cams you still need a 12 port NVR even though you will only be using one port right?

    Thanks for your help.

If you're worried about someone cutting power to your cams have you thought of putting a UPS to give you redundancy for your cameras ?

I use a 4500 watt UPS that i picked up at the right price to give backup power to my entire system and i get over 3 hours .

  6. folks

i purchased 2 hikvision 4.0mp cameras from ebay and they arrived the other day, it has been nothing but a nightmare i have not had aly luck with the hikvision tools to register/ activate the cameras or reset the password the ebay seller said 123456789abc was the pw that dosent work hikvision usa was NO help the ebay seller was no help the serial numbers are as follows

    DS-2CD3345-I20170118AAWR707375090

    DS-2CD3345-I20170118AAWR707375066

the time code from software tool says 1970 01/01

any guideance would be appreciated i have been banging my head into the wall for a few days now i have tryied the different sw tools different PW combinations with no luck thanks in advance

i think what people are doing wrong is they try to use the full serial number from SADP , you must delete the model number from the serial number before you do it.

  7. I have inherited some Pacom PDRH 32 DVR's from a site upgrade.

Can anyone advise what they would have cost new and what could i ask for them on ebay ?

i didnt see any for sale to get an idea of price.

I dont have the passwords for them , so next question is how to break back to default password settings ?

    thankyou

  8. What is wrong with putting it in conduit ?

    Hahhahahahahhaha !

Why the *** would you think I wouldn't use conduit ?

    Ke ?

Can you read the question ?

I want to know how far apart I should space supports to prevent cable damage.

SORRY - missed that bit , but I'm still unsure if you are talking about supporting the conduit or supporting the cable. You are talking about cable damage but as long as the cable is fixed at the bottom where it exits the conduit it becomes self supporting within the conduit. If you are talking about the conduit then there are probably guidlines for your area. I saddle it every metre vertically or at 600mm horizontally

    Nope

I am talking about supporting the cable so the weight of 40+ meters of cable doesn't damage it if it's supported only at the top.

40 meters of cat 6 would be around 3 kg .

is it rated to support that much weight without stretching ?

  9. I'm not sure if you are worried about the electrical safety aspect or the potential for induced interference. The country you are in would have some bearing on the answer as well. In Australia if each cable is in their own conduit than as far as electrical safety compliance goes they can be side by side. For noise immunity I would have them as far apart as possible. EMI is a fairly inexact science.

EMI is the issue I want to avoid , but the customer wants a tidy conduit bundle for aesthetics.

Will do more enquiries on cat 7 specs but otherwise it's going 10-12 inches away from the mains cabling.

  10. Ask the electrician to give you the reference in the national electric code for that one. If running in raceway with high voltage you have to have a physical barrier. You may not get interference but if you get a short you could end up with high voltage on your low voltage wire either wiping out the equipment and or the operator. I do not have the code in front of me but I think you need one foot of open air clearance between low and high voltage wires. the cat 7 is probably 23 gauge so you might get some more load carrying ability.

Both cables would be in their own PVC conduit , they are outside exposed to risk of lightning and salty ocean air so I don't want to use steel conduit.

When you say "high voltage" you are referring to the 240 volt AC ?

High voltage usually refers to 50,000 volts

Sorry pardon my typo , I meant 5000 volts being HV

  11. Can someone confirm the correct minimum spacing between CAT5e and 240 volts AC cable ?

My clients electrician claims they can run together without interference ....

I have to run 40 meters ( 131 feet ) and it will run parallel with 240 VAC over that whole distance.

The CAT5 will be carrying 2 analogue cameras over 2 twisted pair with 24 Volts AC on two pair using 24 AWG

The cameras are 250 watt ( No IR ) , my calculator gives 3 v voltage drop ?

    What separation between cables ?

ps , if i use CAT 7 instead of CAT5, how much difference will that make to spacing with its claimed improved shielding ?

  12. I am evaluating an upgrade on a large site.

The existing contractor "has left" after charging the client upwards of $ 1200 fitted for $ 35 analogue cameras of around incredible 380 TVL resolution.

The site has 5 buildings spread over 40,000 square meters.

There is already RG59 coax through most buildings for the existing analogue cameras , and underground conduit with spare CAT 5/6 between buildings and the head office building on the same site.

My initial thoughts are to use between 5 to 8 1080P AHD varifocal cameras with IR per building .

What are peoples thoughts on using a single 8 channel DVR in each building , then using CAT5 LAN connection from the DVR in each building to a main NVR in the security room ? the DVR would be dual stream capable to record locally simultaneously while giving 100% streaming to the NVR

just trying to get the best image quality for the money.

If we used IP cameras in every building then the cameras are a little more expensive and we dont get redundant storage capacity in each building .

My thoughts for not going single NVR with a router in each building is that if our main NVR goes down then we have no video backup anywhere , whereas if we have individual DVR and storage in each building , we might lose the NVR or one DVR on reliability but we are likely to still retain 80 % of the system as active.

Can this work ? , who can blow holes in it with something better ?

    thankyou

  13. searched on google for small form factor router - came up with this:-

    http://mil-embedded.com/news/rugged-small-form-factor-router-running-cisco-ios-released-by-x-es/

looks expensive and CISCO = EXPENSIVE.

What about the effects of vehicle motion if you intend using while vehicle moving- you would be better off with a SSD hard drive.

Yeah SSD are getting bigger and cheaper but I would like at least 3 terabyte for 4 cameras

4 x 1080 P cameras could use up to 320 meg per day in continuous driving

I currently have a 1 terabyte 2.5" laptop spec HDD recording from four analogue cams and have it mounted on rubber cushion mounts , its surviving overland four wheel drive in harsh terrain so far but I am looking forwards to the day in 1 - 2 years when we can hopefully get a 2 TB SSD for under $500 , they are currently $2500 each here.

  14. I am looking for the smallest router possible to match up to this 4 channel NVR pictured below

It will be vehicle mounted and must be 12 Volt DC powered

also need a very small 12 VDC converter to power a eSATA hard drive . anyone found a compact "regulated" converter to run HDD off a vehicle 12- 13 volt supply ?

    any suggestions ?

    thankyou kindly

  15. Hi people

i have spoken to a few manufacturers about obtaining LPR camera modules and i have a feeling that the same base CCD modules and board is used for both LPR use and standard day/night CCD's

obviously there will be different settings used in WDR settings to cancel out headlight flaring

can anyone confirm this or are there too many models covering a wide scope of applications between manufacturers ?

    opinions please ??

note : i am not including ANPR cameras in the above statement , just basic LPR CCD's

  16. thankyou kindly for your help

    It is working again.

I actually tried earlier what you suggested above but that didnt produce a change

What seems to have got a result is that i cleared cache , deleted some desktop files that were taking up C drive spare space , deleted some cookies , did a disc defrag and rebooted and lo and behold the system is now starting automatically

I only had 1.5 Gig spare space on the 20 Gig C drive prior to doing this but i dont know if that was the issue or if it was a cookies / cache issue

thanks for your time and best wishes

  17. I have a GV 1240 which is not restarting the application after the computer reboots

In configuration settings i have the box ticked for " auto login on restart " but it has ceased to auto login after i powered down the CCTV computer and connected a different UPS to the system.

I tried removing the UPS and going back to mains power but the issue still exists.

It was working fine before this . all other functions are still working

anyone got suggestions of what to check before i reinstall the GV 1240 software as my first attempt to resolve the problem ?

hoping its not a hardware issue with the DVR card

do you see the geovision program in your start menu under startup?

if you go to start, run, type 'msconfig' w/o quotes and press enter and click on the startup tab, do you see it in that list with a check in the box?

yes it is in the menu with a tick in the box

i can start the application manually from the start menu without a problem but i want it to start up automatically after any power outage , with or without a UPS hooked up to it .

It had rebooted without a problem for ages.

    any other suggestions ?
