  4. There are a few 5MPx cameras that have a similar spec of .3lux @ f/1.4 in colour. One of the things I would be checking with the Arecont camera is Auto Iris. And if available on this Day/Night model, also is it Auto Iris by the Lens or a camera function. I coudn't find these answers on the web site.
  5. I believe that support for 3rd party cameras will be in the V4.0 software. From what I understand there will be no re-encoding to JPEG2000. Ie: if the camera is H.264 it will record in H.264. This will mean that some of the core features of JPEG2000 will not be available for the third party cameras in the Avigilon Control Centre, like lossless compression, data aging and HDSM "high definition stream management".

    I have used the GarrettCom 10/100, gig and fibre gear for hardened outdoot apps a bit and found them great. Not the cheepest but high quality. I am looking at a project that curently has 2 analog cameras running over a single coax and they want to upgrade the analog cams to 5MPx, no way of running new cables.     Nice pic. Is that at 1080p or 3.9MP res? I was surprised that you can only get 2.5-3ips max out of this camera at 3.9MP res in JPEG. Max frame rates at 1080p only with H.264. I do like the optical zoom and auto focus. Hopefully its only a matter of time before more megapixel camera's have auto focus feature.

    Just use a small laptop, like a tablet notebook, running software that will accept the camera and a POE splitter that extracts 12VDC from the POE to power the camera during focus. I beleive this post ( by megapix man) should be in diff forum Just saw your post in the other forum The above answer was to a question asked previous in this thread. Also my understanding is that they have POE available at the camera already from the exisiting cable run. Just need to focus the camera locally.

  12. I guess u are happy with about 120 pix per linear meter for facial recognition ? Thx I usually try to get about 150 pix + I think worst we are getting out of one of the cams is about 128ppm set up at visually lossles, so not to bad. But like you I would much prefer to be up over 150ppm. We are doing some for Identification @ over 500 and 600ppm.

This is CCTV with a $20,000 plus per camera price The long range testing set up is a speciaized lens for the application I was using it for, not something normally used in surveillance appications, however if required for one I now know it can be done. ie: Military / Government applications. As for the Avigilon 16MP cameras, I do hear people say "wow they are expensive", but I have had a few projects where they have won the work over other CCTV solutions on price and performance. An example would be to cover a Stadium Crowd and be able to do facial recognition of every person in the crowd (40x 40M approx scene) from the opposite side of the Stadium both on live and recorded footage. Imagine how many fixed Analog or IP cameras + the supporting infrastruture would be required to do that? many thousands of dollars more expensive than just 1 Avigilon 16MP Camera.
  14. Hi, The 16MP Avigilon camera is in the PRO range of their cameras, all the Avigilon PRO range cameras 2-16MP have CCD Sensor and EF mount for lenses. So no adapter required for Cannon Lenses. The optics of the Cannon L seires lenses are fantastic.
  15. Hi, The trucks and cars are not a big problem, other than blocking the view, it's more the heat of day when shooting from that distance. if I get a chance I'll post an image with the effects of heat.
  16. Hi, your welcome. The camera and lens set up in the long range testing photo is very expensive, with the lens cost being much more expensive than the camera. Yes, I work with megapixel camera systems everyday, assist in designing system solutions for customers, price and sell. For a complete end to end enginered system, performace, value proposition, range of Cameras etc.. my favorite manufacturer is Avigilon.

    Before you go "all in" on upgrading your current servers, have a look at Blades and the Pivot 3 solution, I feel they have alot to offer in the Casino Market.
  20. Hi Rainman, Can I ask? What lens are you using, is it an IR corrected lens, Auto Iris, vari Focal? What quality level are you recording at? Do you have the camera settings at default (Auto) or have you changed the exposure settings? How many IPS are you recording at? Your picture name says "compressed" did you change the image size and also compress when exporting from .AVE to JPEG, if so what compression level did you use? When you did the original focus on the camera did you zoom into a far point in the scene and open the Iris prior to focus, and then reset the Iris to Auto when finished? The only reason I ask these questions is that your picture is not of the quality I would expect from this camera covering a small scene like that.
  21. I agree. The picture is taken almost right underneath that streetlamp. sawbones, actually the camera is above and away from the street light, looking almost directly at it. A difficult lighting situation IMO. Ted, Yes mechanical IR Filter,unsure of the lens type and exposure setting, I will try and find out for you.

  23. No, not free with camera purchase. available in different software channel license configs of 1, 4, 8, 16 and 24 and includes software, Software channel lics and 1 viewing client lic. Each Avigilon Camera takes one software channel, and each analog encoder takes one software channel regardless of the number of cameras connected to it ie: 1-4.

    If I were looking at designing a system for this and money was not an issue (which is not normally the case) I would look at. The Avigilon Single or Dual Lane LPR Capture Kit. Suitable solar panel, batteries and inverter system for powering the kit and Point to Point Microwave tansmission system, with carefull consideration for the power consumption. Avigilon NVR and LPR Software at the head end.

    Are you looking at an "Automated License Plate Recognition" System or just to capture and record License Plates? Either way with no power or impossible to run cables, you will need to look at a solar panel and battery system for power and a wireless transmission network to the DVR / NVR. Most of the best LPR systems I have seen use High Res Monochrome SD Cameras or Monochrome HD Cameras with IR Illumination, fixed focal length lenses and a visable light cut filter to manage the refective nature of License Plates. As most LPR is OCR your FOV must be small but large enough to get the plate to get maximum accuracy with high "pixels on target" If you continue down the Game Cam with IR Flash path, try a visable light cut filter. These filters can be expensive. I have read somewhere that a cheap Visable Light Cut Filter can be made out of 35mm Colour Film ASA 100 exposed to 5 seconds of cool white light and developed as normal. It is tranparent and cuts most visable light and still allows IR between 830 and 950nm. I have not tried it though.
