    DBM-24VF

How would you flush mount it. I saw a thread on this but didn't understand. I know the dome is not tinted on the DBM as well so they said it did a bit better in low light.

Are all 6 of my camera's DEAD after storm?

Whast power supply are you using? I usally use the type that has fuses on every camera and a main fuse they normally have a voltage reg built in.
  3. Our current gole is to build a pc that will house a Geovision 1240 card with about 13 cameras connected to it. The pc will also run the HAI WL II software which is basically a web server connected to a automation pannel and also home seer and CQC two other home automation pieces of software.. Can one PC do this? The only heavy software is the Geovision. Or is geovision that heavy? We also want the minium power consumption. Has anyone one else tried putting other software on to a geovision box? I hate to run 2 pc's 24/7 if I don't have to.

Geovision 1240 card + home automation PC, can 1 pc do it all

I aggree but we use elk and HAI for security on a stand alone pannel so the home automation part is that home automation. I hate to run 2 pc and eat the extra power if we don't have to this is a 24/7 load in our show "green house" that is going to be NJ energy star rated so I am counting every kilowhatt.

    Indoor camera

I just got some CNB VBM-24VF and love them, so much better than what I was using, thaks everyone for hte sugestion. I now need some indoor cameras. I was thinking of using the vbm-24vf which I might but they are big and may look a little odd in some rooms. Can someone recomend a similar indoor camera? Maybe something I could even hide behind walls and just have the lens out. Low light performance is also important since I woudl like to record a room even though the lights are off and I would perfer higher lines of resolution if possible, somewhere around 500-600ish. Also if there is nothing better for indoor than the vbm-24vf I will just suck it up and mount thoes. One nice thing about that camera is I know it will work with my LED lighting, some of my chineese cameras do not.

I need to mount a ptz about 50' from my house. I could burry cat5 or put it in PVC, what is te easest way to run this wire and what type of wire? Will regular cat5e work or do I need a UF wire? I have never seen UF cat5e.
  9. It is time to put in a PTZ to follow my kid around the yard, I have a large house and we are not out with them all the time. As of now I have no PTZ but would like one that works with the geovision autotrack. Of course I would like to keep the cost resonable. Any sugestions thanks in advance.

    Geovision Triggers?

If I trigger an input on the geovision accessory card can I have the software email me out a pic? For example when there is motion on the side of a busness to take a snapshot or video and attach it to a email with a message?

Advice for a door camera please

You will have to play with some cameras. I just went through this actually wound up mounting 2 cameras a 1.7 bullet type in the wood frame next to the door and another pointing tords teh door from behind. My issues where. I wanted to see the whole porch so no one could hid in the cornors. the bullet gets about 90% of it. I wanted to see people faces, above didn't work if they had a cap on or looked down I would have no idea who they where. way to the side worked ok but more centered was much better. I also wanted to see if packages where left and if they disappear. This is where I needed the second camera. the main one only shot from waste high basically. Most board cameras the lens is a 3.x and it just will not cover the porch unless the person is directly in frount of it. The 1.7 lenses are big they look like peep holes, if you recess it nicly it is not that bad looking besides I want people to see it a little as a deterent.
  12. I am comming from the alarm industry where every one of the power supplie I use have battery backups. I went to order a power supply for about 10+ cameras and was shocked. first one sold to me has no safety if any of the 12 leeds gets tripped or cut it will burn the whole supply killing all the cameras. Next one I was looking at had fuses, what is this the 60's? Now looking none of them seem to have battery backups at all? Am I just looking at the wrong things? IS battery Back up needed? What is a good power supply that won't break the bank?

    Door cameras and advice needed.

I need a camera for my frount door I was going to get a peep hole camera but seem to be getting talked out of it. I am worried about not seeing people if they are to close to the door. so I would appreate some guidence I have a standard residential door with a thin window to the right of the door. The porch is covered so if I mount something out side it will not get rain or sun. I perfer something small. so my options are: a peep hole camera, camera above door, camera to the side of the door inside or out The security system has a motion sensor out there and can turn on the porch light when someone approaches but I would still like color and decent low light performance but is not critical. My system is also ip based so I will need a ip camera or a converter. I don't want to go over kill incase someone disides to yank it off and steal it or smash it if it is outside, but I am in a good neiborhood so that should not happen. I relise there are also vandel proof cameras but the domes get quite large and mounting may be a problem. Or it will look silly. Thanks in advance for any help.

    GeoVision 1480a or 1240a

I was going to get a geovision GV-1480A card but found the 1240 is about $300 cheaper which is substanical to me. Will I regret not gettingthe 1480? I am going to use this for monitoring around my house with about 10 cameras. Is the frame rate the only difference?

    video blum?

I have been doing network camera axis and panasonic and have been happy but now I have a install that i need to do some analog cameras. I think I would perfer to run a cat5e to future proof. If I do this I can use video blums correct? What is a decent not to expensive brand/model to use?

    IP cameras and home network

Doing home automation and security systems I am getting involved in Video also now. My question is on a home network 10-100 how many network cameras can I put on till it starts to degrade internet speed or network speed on a 10-100 network or a gig bit network? Most cameras will be jpg or mpeg-4. I don't want to slow down anyones vpn connections or anything.

    looking for DVR

I am getting more serious about cameras and it is time to go towards a dedicated DVR. Currently I interface a couple of network cameras through a HAI system and although ok I think a dedicated DVR is the way to go. I spoke to my distrbutor and he recomended a speotech stdvr8th but I am not sure it will do what I need so I also wanted some other recomendations or what people are using. The catch is here it needs to interface with a home automation system so I need triggers in and out. I would like to know if someone removes the trailer in my yard and trigger a alarm. Also be able to view on a iphone and pc the feeds. Record on an event for example someone triggers the f door motion sensor record cameras 1,2 and 3 for 2 min. and send out a email possibly with a pic. Not sure if this is all possible but your feedback is appreated.

    Need system

I need to get a DVR that will do about 8, cameras 6 outdoor and 2 indoor, al least some will be ip. I have not bought anything but one panasonic ip cam which I don't have to use. Trouble si I also have a home automation system so basically what I would like is if someone rings the doorbell, closes a input, have the dvr email the time and pic. I would also love to have object removal tracking so I can tell if someone stole my trailer and have it close some contacts and set the alarm off. someone sugested a speco stdvr8th. Is this any good?

    NJ Licensing

yep nj sucks, way for them to make money. It's a good and bad thing but I think it should be unecessory. Heck if you install a wireless security system they want you to have a licience but they don't have any formal code written go figure. What the heck is the licience good for.

    which camera

I have done some surfing and am confused so someone please help this newbee. I have a HAI system with WL3 so I think I need IP cameras. Given that I would perfer 1 wire so power over IP seems to fit the bill. I want a camera for the frount door, two or three for the yard, and one inside the main hall. What cameras should I get? I don't want to spend alot but want to get what I need and is decent. If my Stragey is wrong above let me knwo I know HAI is also making a system to convert regular coax to IP maybe that would be better is anyone else making that? Would that make things more cost effective. Thanks in advance for your help.
