    1. To get up and running ASAP, might be an idea to run the cabling through a cabinet floor and onto the deck. 2. Any 4 or 8 channel Dahau DVR will be fine. 3. IR bullets would be adequate. Anyone have any suggestions for sub-zero bullets? 4. You won't need to spend much on this system. (Notwithstanding the temp issue.)

    Power supply @ pole

Pelco WCS1-4 "The Pelco WCS1-4 is a single-output power supply for use with standard CCD cameras as well as Pelco's indoor or outdoor Spectra and Esprit pan-and-tilt systems. This model outputs 4, 26 or 28 VAC power, with the extra voltage above 24 VAC provided as a way to compensate for power loss from long cable runs. Input voltage is selectable between 100, 120 or 240 VAC." Drug dealers typically wait for a phone call and then rendezvous with their customers at a discrete distance. They have to make frequent brief trips away from their homes only to return again within 5 minutes to half an hour or so. This pattern of movement is one indicator that he may be dealing. If this is the case, evidence of these irregular movements would be of interest to drug enforcement officers. You may be able to knock him out quickly on the suspicion of drug dealing though I wouldn't anticipate any predictable outcome with the Police. Their attitude seems to be that, rather than defeat crime, it is better to ignore the reporting of crime. Eventually crime reports will go away and the Police can then claim that their efforts have resulted in a reduction of crime. When the Police attend the scene, this figures into an accounting system used to administer Police Departments. It doesn't naturally follow that they will make any real effort to apply the law. This pattern of Police indifference is reported widely on this forum.
  4. 1. The fact that the enclosure is far larger than the camera is irrelevant. 2. As the previous contributer has explained elsewhere, IR tends to reflect back off glass. The commercial solution has been to isolate the IR from the lens by using a foam tube which presses against the outer circumference of the camera lens and also presses against the enclosure plexiglass thus allowing the infrared light to pass through the plexiglass enclosure without reflecting back onto the camera lens. 3. Cameras, such as bullet cameras with inbuilt IR were never intended to operate inside enclosures.

The profile of your neighbour reflects the widespread deterioration in social behaviour within Western nations. The Police generally remain indifferent to prosecuting the lower subclasses which have insinuated themselves into polite society. This indifference means that all of your efforts may show little return. Neighbours can defecate in your front yard; climb over your back fence; frequently block your driveway and box-in your vehicle; swear the lowest gutter-mouthed profanities at your pre-adolescent nieces and nephews; throw garbage in your yard; wake you at all hours with big-mouths, barking dogs, car horns etc., etc.; poison your established garden; make lewd remarks; and repeatedly threaten to kill you and your family and no authority will bother to act on your behalf. Generally, the social lumpen are engaged in illicit activity. By determining what form that activity takes, such as Welfare Fraud or Drug Dealing, a decent person may be able to collect evidence and present compelling details to a specific law enforcement authority. I have never called the Police about the kind of issues you are experiencing. What I have done, successfully, is to cut the lumpen off at the knees by removing their economic base. It is bad enough doing this when you live in an established home, but it is a tall expectation for you to put up a protracted fight in your situation. Is it possible to relocate within your facility or to negotiate with the landlord for the relocation of the neighbour?

In this circumstance, the use of IRs would allow you to video any events without showing your hand. "to learn that infrared cameras can't look out through windows and I couldn't install those cameras outside due to the temperatures here" IR works through windows. External IR units can function at temperatures as low as -58 degrees Fahrenheit. By removing the visible lights operated by motion detectors, you could encourage more events. The use of covert cameras would work to your advantage. Any sign of a camera or technology is likely to put that belligerent neighbour on guard. When you have the system that the old hands will recommend, install it quietly, then look defeated. Drop your guard. Appear to give up. The neighbour will walk right into the trap.
  7. Provided that the BMT is not below .28, the use of a timber substrate behind the sheet steel or between the sheet steel and the base plate is unnecessary.

    Dahua motion recording

Or, under the Record section, the channels may be set to schedule; manual or stop. If 'manual' is set, the channel will record continously.

    cop ptz specs?

Further into their product range are these: http://www.cop-eu.com/acatalog/External_Speed_Domes.html They are all also rebadged generics. The internal camera specs are partially consistent with industry standard units, however, given that those details are not specified, they too may be generics. N.B. The outer cases are copies of an earlier Sony dome.

    cop ptz specs?

    It's a rebadged generic.
  11. If it is a full sized enclosure if may not be possible to support it by drilling into the sheet steel. Drilling all the way through into 12mm steel would then be necessary. Roofing comes in various BMT sizes from about .28 up to .60 so the heavier the better for an enclosure. Span distances between purlin or batten centres may also be relevant. Otherwise, if it is just a fixed dome, I'd definitely self-tap straight into the sheeting. There shouldn't be any problem with that whatsover.

  13. The problem with irrational argument is that most people don't understand that argument has to follow certain rules. This was first established by the likes of Plato and Aristotle. It was Aristotle who gave us the syllogism which is a rudimentary and formal structure of logic. The problem with the syllogism is that it is extremely narrow and cannot be used for induction. There are so many flaws in general argument that rules have been long established to prevent errors arising. One of the most common errors is called Ad Hominem or attacking the person. This means that argument often degenerates into personal comments which are irrelevant to the issue. There are quite a few other fallacies of argument which I will touch on from time to time. Now regarding the 'wanting to be a neighbour' question, this is another example of an opinion that is superfluous to the issue of the argument. Whether a person would or wouldn't be a suitable neighbour is entirely arbitrary. Loud folk might like loud neighbours. Educated folk might like educated neighbours. Loud educated folk might like loud educated neighbours. Quiet educated folk might appreciated quiet educated neighbours. Blue collars might like to live next to upper middle class neighbours. But upper middle class neighbours probably wouldn't like to live next to blue collar folk. The list goes on.
  14. 1. Repeat: Post that on a British University website and let's see what the Vice Chancellor calls it. 2. Parked on my vacant land. So bloke in van was trespassing while sticking a needle in his arm. As I said, he has left the suburb permanently. 3. Who said anything about zooming into a house window? You are inventing nonsense here. 4. You are English. Who else do you think I am referring to? 5. Just so as everyone understands, when tom was supposedly assisting with a GPS topic, he directed me to a long and labourious webpage which ended up with a PORNOGRAPHIC STILL SHOT. I asked him to remove it but he didn't. Your little giggle backfired on you tom. Simple as that.
  15. Seems like the old hands are a little busy. I have looked at the DVR you mention. My advice would be to go and buy the industry standard DVR made by Dahua. It costs about the same price. In fact, I can't actually make out the unit in the photo but it may be a Dahua. As far as cameras go, that is a pandora's box of varying opinions. $400 seems too low a budget even for 4 cameras, though there are those who have acheived adequate results on that budget. Plus the cabling and power supply. Are you going to run generic BNC or Cat5 cabling? There are also varying opinions about the use of IR; the use of bullets vs box cameras; and the use of fixed domes. Each solution brings with it a series of pros and cons. Some of us like enclosures as deterents. Others don't. By the looks of the size of the property, I would have thought that the bullet cameras you're looking at might be hard for a criminal to see. Anyway, these are the areas of contention. Perhaps others will make specific recommendations within that camera budget.
  16. Where to begin. 1. Sexual harassment isn't much of a joke. It didn't bother me so much as cast a shadow over your character. Like I said previously, why don't you do that at a State Facility in the U.K. and see how far you get. Try that at a University. Please direct me to a State website where you have played a similar 'joke'. 2. Of course I would have seen what was going on. I just needed to look out a window. They have windows in England don't they? 3. The still shots were a demonstration of a camera per a request by a PM. Perhaps I should have posted shots of trees or wildlife. Native flora and fauna depictions are always popular in England. Then again, someone would have complained about the lack of criminality. Misdemeanors are always solid crowd pleasers. 4. Posting images on posts is approved by all the local authorities. I draw the line at posting serious crimes because I refuse to take on every wannabee gangbanger. 5. I don't send anything to the local Police. Usually they phone me directly or knock on my door every time there is a burglary, stabbing or car theft. I only send evidence to the Serious Crime Squad; the Drug Squad; and two other Federal Agencies. That just about covers it.

    Good luck with that.
  19. For the last three years I attempted to force the local Council (City Hall) to enforce dog leash laws. What a big joke eh? Dogs not on leashes. A few months ago, a young African girl was MAULED TO DEATH nearby. It was a national story at the time. I felt like telling the media about my efforts to get dogs restrained for the last three years but I didn't bother. If they had heeded my warnings then, that little girl may still be alive today. That death caused an explosion of racial tensions; and knee-jerk reactions from various authorities followed. Now, when an eighty pound dog is running wild, the owners are jumped on and threatened with heavy fines. And yet it's all too little too late.
  20. 150 feet at night through a van windscreen. Heroin addict sticking a needle in his arm. All this was preceded by the usual preparations: teaspoon with lighter beneath it to melt cough candy before heroin added. Needle stuck into mixture; needle licked; needle stuck into arm; needle licked again. Not bad for a home install. This addict lived locally. After placing an appropriate poster, he decided it was time to move on. The home invasion and blood soaked event have not been catalogued. They are on an older DVR which I replaced with the Dahua.
  21. Sorry Soundy, I didn't realise this was a Show and Tell class: How about three gunshots and a guy running out of the house afterwards. How about a guy covered in blood staggering across the front of my house before the Keystone Cops speed past? How about multiple car thefts? What on Earth do you call a 'victimless crime'? Tell you what, if a can get an actual murder for you, I will email you the images. Okay? I am concerned about posting anything too close to the mark because I don't want a bullet through my window.
  22. Hello? Who was/is behind the dictator? In which country would I find Georgia? I wouldn't call three drug houses within 400 feet 'victimless'. I wouldn't call a gang of organised Welfare Thieves 'victimless' either. Relocate? Is that a euphenism for 'retreat' or 'give-up'? If people don't want to hear about life in a crime-ridden suburb, then they can avoid my posts. Simple as that.

  24. ak357, you always hit the mark. I do not want Distributors and Installers to give away Commercially Sensitive Information which might jeopardize their positions with companies like Avigilon. Soundy, directed me to an Avigilon image the other day and, well, one thing lead to another. Naturally, I am interested to know what such a camera costs...
