  1. Well... it COULD be used for market research in a store if your using loitering detection analytics to determine where people linger. Also can be used for worker's comp situations, i.e. slip and falls, etc.
  2. What model CNM DVR do you have? Most likely it simply can't be viewed by mobile phones. THe issues is Active-X controls that IE uses. There are a number of units that can. And with the model number we can check and see if it's possible.

Need advice for a good home system

Well, can't find anything stating one way or another - except a couple wikipedia references that are extremely vague - so I'll take your word for it. You already proved me dramatically wrong once this month I don't think I could take it twice And I think the rep said it did because he thought they were interchangable terms too. I KNOW my D1 box is 30 Frames @ D1 so no issue for me

I thought ACTi offers free software

http://www.acti.com/product/detail/Application_Software/NVR_enterprise Good luck. I recommend at least looking at Milestone Go if you have less than 8 cameras. It's a free limited version of the largest VMS in the US. http://www.milestonesys.com/go/product+information

Need advice for a good home system

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's it: IPS(Images per Second) = PPS(Pictures per Second) = FPS(Frames per Second.). But then there is also Fields Per Second(also known as FPS) that = 2 Fields to a Frame(picture/image/frame). It's been a couple years since I've had to explain this(thank you for finally going away VCRs!) and I might be a little jumbled up, but I'm pretty sure this is accurate. And unless multiple Samsung Reps have lied to me(a possibility, but doubtful), that is a 480FPS @ D1 unit. On a side note: The Samsung will not give you IP/HD recording capability and the Aver will.

Need advice for a good home system

http://www.panasonic.com/business/security/demos/PSS-recording-rates.html D1@30FPS Recorders Generally cost about 3x as much as a 30@CIF / 7@D1 recorders. Take a look at the above link, select 7.5FPS vs 30FPS, and decide for yourself whether it's worth it.
  7. To clarify, Panasonic Global bought Sanyo Electric. Massive conglomerates generally take some time to integrate - especially when your talking about small divisions like CCTV products. I'd expect Sanyo CCTV to be around for a while - and even if they do manage to integrate the divisions quickly I'd expect the Sanyo offering to be available as Panasonic for at least a little while.

    Standalone DVRs for Macs?

Nah, I can't stand AVTech. Can't tell you how many customers I lost selling rebranded AVTech's(this was at my previous company). They would either break down in a couple months or simply look so terrible the customer would return it. I used to joke with my product guy about the AVTech he had sitting on the bench. "Are you sure you want that thing on overnight? It's gotta be a fire hazard." no i meant dahua .. they have PSS for Suse Linux now .. I have it here .. but I have no Suse Oh that makes sense lol. No I haven't, didn't know it was out yet. I'll have to check it out.

If one could afford a mac they should be able to afford something better than an AvTech " title="Applause" /> So true... lol.

    Quality System?

Prodigy is VSS's house brand. Not having used or seen the cameras I can't really judge. But I figured I'd give you that tidbit at least. It's not really a secret, they call it "prodigy by VSS, inc" on their website. From my experiences at a previous company, Vitek is a mix of quality depending on what your looking at. They are a step above most of the dime a dozen imports in support.

    Dynacolor 216L mobile view

There is an application on the app store for the iphone I don't think it works with the 216 series though... pretty sure it's just the newer units.
  16. Well, they aren't IR corrected but Tamron and Fujinon both have the focal length you need. http://www.tamron.com/en/cctv_ip/megapixel_varifocal_normal/ Look at the M13VG550 http://www.fujinon.com/ProductDocs/YV3.3x15SA-SA2.pdf

    CCTV & Access Integration

Some Networkable Access Control systems can integrate DVRs/NVRs directly into their Software. This allows to use the Access Control software as your main GUI most of the time.
  18. Unless it's the most penny-pinching hospital in the US they are paying a good deal more than $100/ea for ANALOG cameras, let alone IP. Hospitals usually go name brand on their products.

    Neighborhood CCTV

Nope, exactly the same FOV. Bean00 what i was saying was not to record in D1 (like bosh says) cif/ 2cif/ does not matter which. the software you get with the camera is what you zoom into the plate with not the dvr. (you do the zooming on a pc it also comes with enhacement tools) using a lens calculator .............. yes its fine for a standard camera the REG-X at 8.3m is dead will not see anything at all .......... so no point using the lens calculator. I apologize, I think alot of this debate we've been having revolves around me misunderstanding what your saying. You are absolutely correct in stating that the REG-X does have a max range(due to the IR pass filter and the cameras IR distance). And this is something I wasn't taking into account honestly. I've worked with mostly REG-L1's and my one customer that did use these also used a number of 850nm IR bullets for overview that helped with the illumination of the scene(850nm is what the REG-X is "tuned" for.) To retract my previous statements regarding this camera: While I know that the REG-X does shoot a bit farther than the specified limits, it's not much farther and it's a very good idea to stick within the specified limits with this camera. This is due to the overall IR range.
  20. they do sell direct. payasyougo. were are you in the uk you will have a local supplier. Avermedia sells direct to End-users now? When did that happen? They never did when I sold their product. If you meant that site you gave him, obviously I knew that. He said was going to contact Avermedia directly though.
  21. They don't sell direct to endusers.
  22. Camera specs: +1 Rather high S/N ratio for one of those cameras +1 They list 30m IR Range, so 20m is more realistic. Most of those domes won't even do that much. -1 They don't list Effective Pixels. Could simply be left off, but it's possible its a 350-420TVL camera they are passing off as a 540TVL. Usually these "eye-ball" cameras have whatever cheap guts the manufacturer can put into them(which is a shame cause those housings rock.), so unless they specifically ordered it with a better CCD DSP combo it probably isn't the greatest camera. DVR specs: -10 AVTech DVR(I believe). Specs well, but video is generally low quality, and I've had an absolute ton of DOA's selling rebranded AVTechs at a previous company
  23. The link comes up "Page not found" for me. Just post the model number as the store link will be removed by the mods to protect cctvforum's advertisers. I'll happily tell you what I think of the camera.
  24. Ever thought about getting into politics? Lol... alot of lawyers in my family. Can't really be more specific though without knowing the manufacturers he's talking about.
  25. 4:3 2288(H) x 1712(V) = 3917056 pixels. They round up for for the 4 MP. And they crop for all other resolutions.
