  1. Thanks for the ideas! I'm going to order the Blue Iris software and see how that works out. Looks like I won't need any external triggers.

Now, I just need to find a compatible capture card. Anyone have experience with Bluecherry? I am looking at the TW-201-8port card. looks like it can accept plenty of cameras connected via BNC and is in stock.

Thanks, I appreciate all the advice.

  2. Hi, I'm looking for a solution to recording 10min of every hour from two cameras (BNC connections). I work for a research based organization and the video will be used for abundance estimates. So far I have not found any DVRs that have 24 user defined recording times, and none of the security software for a PC seems to fit the bill. Because we are a research Org we have to keep ALL the video, so can't overwrite files and it would be nice to have them in a format that is easily shared and viewed. Thanks for any advice. DD

  3. The Lynx systems look vary interesting. I'll see if they are interested in one.

I was also looking at this mostly for the IR and ability to place the camerea without having to run weirs. Any idea if it's any good?

  4. Thanks,

I've started looking at the game cams and they seem like they will be a better fit. I don't see any on your site though. Which ones do you carry?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  5. Scorpion:

I love the idea of using paintball land mines. Especially if I could capture their faces as they get hit priceless.

The cabin has power but no internet or phone access, so no instant alerts. Any specific cameras you would recommend? I had not thought of a camera with it's own storage. It could even be an indoor camera, the cabin is pretty small and getting a shot inside would be easy as long as they don't find the camera. I hadn't noticed any cameras like that on my initial search for surveillance equipment.

    Thanks,

  6. Hi all,

My Aunt and Uncle have a cabin in rural Alaska. Lately there has been a rash of break-ins where, presumably, kids are looking for booze and a place to party. I am trying to help set them up with something that might ID the miscreants. What I am looking for is a two camera outdoor system with a DVR that can handle about 5 days of recording.

I don’t know much about camera lenses, but both will need IR for night recording. Neither camera will have far to shoot, maybe 15 feet.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

  7. Thanks, I'll look into thoes.

Does anyone have experiance with this software? I would like to know how it stores it's files. Is there a folder with a bunch of time stamed AVI or MPG files? I'm most conserned about how easy it will be to work with the files once they have been created.

    thanks

  8. Hi all, I'm pretty new to this and would appreciate any ideas you have.

We are replacing an old VHS based system at a fish weir. We are looking at two of these cameras for the underwater footage : http://client5.activdemo.com/web/site/Products/UnderwaterImaging/ColourCameras/Colour_Cameras.asp

What we would like to do is have a PC set up for recording/viewing of the footage. We only need the first 10 minutes of every hour recorded and would like it to be in an easy format that we could burn a week or more onto a CD/DVD and review later. I was looking at using the VJUSB-4 package form Video Insight, but would like to get some of your opinions before I spend the $.

I don't need the remote viewing, archiving, ect . . but I do need something that is going to be reliable since it will be at a vary remote location. Mostly I just need something that will display the two cameras, record 10 minuet clips, allow the biologists to review the clips, and a way to burn the clips to disks.

What do you think, am I on the right track?

    Thanks
