  1. Has anyone tried the Arecont 10Mp for switch between night /day? I'd hate to go down another blind alley like the Mobotix M12. Very disappointed in them. That disaster cost me several hundred dollars by the time I sold the camera, despite the extensive research I'd done.
  2. Really? Is this true of the 10Mp D/N? I'm finding the HIK 5Mp about the same price as the Arecont 10Mp.

    Video IQ cameras

2 Mp? You gotta be kidding...
  4. There do not seem to be any 3Mp cameras that get more than 1-2 fps, for under $1,000. Might as well be a $million. 1-2 fps is unusable.

Maybe so, but you'd think it certainly would with their own MxEasy. Best it can do with MxPeg is 2.2 f/s.

Sure, studied those, although I need something with a wider FOV. I guess you're meaning to say those are not so bad quality-wise. I know there's going to be a good small enclosure out there, but it'll take research. Very disappointed with Mobotix. Indeed the datasheet for the M12 says at highest rez the framerate is 10. Simply not true -- 2-2.2 max. Makes me worry about Arecont's ostensible 6 fps @ 3648x2752... This seems like a pretty basic concern, fps/max rez. Surprised I haven't read more about it here.

'Good lens', which I take it Arecont's are not? Does Leica make C-mounts? What mm would give a 90 degree field of view?

In the specs it says "Field of View Resolutions" and Cropped Field of View Resolutions". Does this mean that the sensor is 10Mp but you can only actually see 5Mp, or is the cropped list just a handy chart of video designations? Also Arecont's IP67 enclosure is too large for a small camera like this. Does anyone know of a more compact, high quality, IP67 enclosure? Exacq claims to support the AV10005.

Oh, I mis-read Mobotix MX-D12DI-SEC-D. Hey, checking out the Arecont AV10005 I am astonished. Costs far less than the Mobotix, with more than 300% the resolution, and they claim 6 fps @ 3648x2752. Can this be true?

Well, that's not much help. The Mobotix M12 is on there with a framerate of 10, and I can tell you from experience that it's 2 at the max rez. Unusable. I bought it for max rez. I guess your framerate is at a rez of 640x480.

You say one thing, but don't uh describe what you mean. The techs say another.

I've heard some negative things about ACTi, but can't remember what. Intermittent locking up?

So only Sanyo. Any idea what software will run it?

What kind of software works with Sanyos? How many fps at max rez? Any kind besides Sanyo?
  15. Have a Mobotix {redacted} But when I {redacted} I have done the{redacted} Also my {redacted}
  16. And so, rather than learning from the information I provide, they respond with virulent jealousy. This is one of the final stages of a declining society. Yeah, I'm not reading any of your posts as I'm bored with this. Just wanted to add, 'font problem'? No font problem. No limitation with fonts. Also, I think I'd better remove the instructive notes from my posts, as this is not a place that needs it.
  17. That would beee, Today, er Yesterday, eh Five Years Ago. I am not limited in any multimedia, except NVR because of the ActiveX virus, and in fact I have freedom from DRM, which you will never have. At home I have the best DVR in the world on an HTPC with 6TB BTRFS array feeding TV shows and movies to a 12' screen, and recording the pure unencrypted digital HD stream just like God intended, and automatically (yes, automatically) skipping commercials! Haven't had exe trouble with Wine for years, and in fact installed and ran MxEasy in Wine. It appears at this point that all my problems were due to the camera; we shall see what Mobotix finds. Some of what you say is sickening Rory; you make most Americans sound fat, lazy, and stupid. Maybe they are, and deserve the government we have. But I am not here to convert you, as you've made your decision and are happy with it. Remember Citizen: War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength. Arbeit macht frei.
  18. {redacted} Actually, best to {redacted} (or whatever it's called in Winders). Anyway, we agree it's not for you.
  19. In the KDE icon for Konqueror filemanager I can {redacted} Surely there's that, or something like {redacted} in Winduhs. Of course few Winduhs users see the value of running as a user, much less to seek out a way to {redacted}. Most seem to value shelter, conventionality, and no thinking, more than anything else. The fact that 95% of the population runs Winduhs means only that they are giving the customer what they want. It doesn't mean anything more. It doesn't mean that it's the Best option, or that it can lead people to greater things. The fact that Republicans keep getting elected, despite the profligate spending of the Bush years which will bankrupt us and the hangover spending now which resulted, proves that Americans do not know what's Best for them. No, I'm not a Democrat; they're just as corporatist. Nader. That's all I'll say about that.
  20. I don't have more than three full weeks to fiddle with a camera which is ostensibly high quality. And I don't 'have all the time in the world to argue over which platform is superior via an internet forum'. But I -did- try to help where I can. Looks like I've hurt your feelings too... See, when someone has made an emotional decision about something, as opposed to an intellectual decision, there is just no reasoning with them. I learned a long time ago that when I discover that's the case, there is no sense in discussing it any further. But one thing you cannot honestly deny: {redacted} And you have probably learned something substantive from me; you can decide this question in the privacy of your own mind. If you haven't learned anything here, you are one who is the victim of emotional decisions.
  21. LOL, well I am just trying to help you.
  22. Like I say, run it if you like. I might be in the back door. But your thought here is fallacy. {redacted} they will be safer. Ask Echostar and DirecTV how that's gone for them... they've been continuously hacked for 15 years, usually through {redacted}. OTOH look at {redacted}. ALL of its code is fully open for all to see, and it is amongst the most secure apps ever made. The world's spy agencies use it. Because the world's best minds have evaluated and improved it daily. You don't think Black Hats are trying to crack the port every day, they are. But {redacted} is as secure as it gets. Not much you can do about the {redacted}. There has to be a point of reason... I know you've been told over and over to not do that Rory, so I'll tell you a way around it. You shouldn't be admin because {redacted}, they have root. All you have to do is {redacted}... and they are the wrongest, wrongest ones you want to have root. {redacted} The damage you can't see, is the worst. I think Winduhs ppl are in for a hard lesson. I understand the convenience aspect, so please do what I do: {redacted} and you have the convenience. At least consider it. And FGS don't {redacted}... defeats the point.
  23. Nothin' about Winduhs is free AFAIK, in any sense of the word...
  24. May be, but {redacted} is officially sanctioned by the NSA, and that's good enough for me. In fact they have {redacted}. I was hoping to hear from Sawbones and Adam. Dial what back a bit? I gotta be me. Well {redacted} is quite secure, and I have no daemons exposed except {redacted}. I provide {redacted}. Just incredible advanced tools! Nothing like them in Winduhs, certainly not with {redacted}. Maybe somebody will adversarially say {redacted} are available for Winduhs, but So what? About 0.00002% know about it, much less understand or use them. Yes I am non-plussed about the wastage of time this expedition has cost me, on an expensive system which was supposed to have been debugged, and so am a bit less patient with a few here. I am just glad my investment is small at this point.
  25. I've got nothing against you using Windows, as long as you are aware of the risks, however much you may doubt them. Presumably you trust Google as well. I don't.
