i definitely will, as i said before, i know what voltage is originating at the box (11.85v), so when i run the cable, to the camera, before connecting the camera, i will measure voltage at the camera end, and post my findings... Wrong u wanna measure voltage at the camera with camera connected well i will do it both ways....

i am replacing all of the cheap eBay Siamese cables with Cat5e, the required parts should be here Monday, now i have a question, is there any special method that i have use to strip the insulation off of the Cat5e wires, should i leave the power wires twisted right up till they where they go into the Balun... how much of the wires should be exposed from the wiring jacket... i know this sounds like it should be basic knowledge, believe me i am not new to wiring, when we build our first home, i wired the whole house, and pasted inspection first time out, but this CCTV thing is new, and i want to make sure i don't have any power issues.. i plan on using two sets for power, one set for video and one set for rs485/data... i will be using a 12v wall panel, and none of the runs will be more then 60 feet.. thanks...

this subject couldn't of come along at a better time, i just purchased all the items needed to run Cat5e, and i was worried about the possible voltage drop to each camera... the cameras i am using are the CNB VCM-24VFs... the power panel i have is 12v 1.5 amp each channel, in fact i used a meter to measure the output, and found each of the 16 channels was between 11.85 to 11.86 volts...none below and none higher... the length of the longest run of Cat5e will be approx 75 feet... the Cat5e will replace those cheap eBay Siamese cables that came with a package i bought... i will be using these Mini-baluns...the price is just incredible... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260756824400&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT and i will be using this Cat5e cable... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000067RWR i do plan on adding a PTZ, and when i do that, the PTZ will have a separate power supply and be fed by 18-2 wire, along with the Cat5e for video and data... again this post has really put my mind at ease...

well i have already decided to use separate IR, presently i am using two MIR1000, and for those, i installed separate outlet boxes.. and the cameras i will be using , VCM-24VFs only require 12v@180mA should i be ok, just using two pair for power

i have to go with a power issue, i had the same problem, i had two cameras wires running through the same hole, apparently there was interference caused by a bad cable, once i separated the cables, each in its own hole, the problem went away...

Is the VCM-24VF for outdoor only? Would it be good for a 15ft ceiling? If not, what would you recommend? I need something that will work with Geovision GV800. Thank you very much well it is a outdoor camera, but can be used indoors, but it would be overkill for indoors, it does have the ability to zoom in to adjust picture, so i can't see why it wouldn't work on the ceiling...

well i don't know what the issue the other guys had, but they have been nothing but great to me, they always send me my items free of charge, next day service, and , when i didn't like one of the items i bought, they sent me a label for return , out of their pocket... in my book, you can't get better, then that...

hello, i notice that the VCM-24VFs offer the ability to change the Shutter speed of the lens, it can be adjusted to the following settings: 1/60, 1/120, 1/250, 1/500, 1/700, 1/1K, 1/1600, 1/2500, 1/5K, 1/7K, 1/10K, 1/30K, 1/60K, and 1/120K... what is the advantage to changing this setting and just how would i go about deciding which setting to use.... thanks

Cant recall if its EI or ELC on that camera but either way thats Electronic Iris, DC is the AUTO IRIS on the lens. So its under the Lens title in the top menu. Electronic Iris is where the camera digitally controls the amount of light coming in, DC is Auto Iris where the lens controls it. Thats the best time to focus it, but just in case can still switch it to EI and focus it like that, or if you notice a slight blur with any of them then do it as 99% of the time I never had to do it, just came across 2 cameras where I had to. The Auto Iris on those type of lenses (domes and bullets) are pretty flimsy so they dont always work great. Gotta excuse me now, im outside in the sun adjusting the OSD on a $2000 EX30 camera, its like the sahara desert out there right now and bright is an understatement! got a black tee shirt over my head and the monitor .. heat stroke here we come thanks Rory, i will have to try that...CNB calls that mode ESC, don't know what it stands for... its pretty hot here in Jersey, i just came in from putting up another VCM...its like 90 degrees here, probably not as hot as were you are.... stay cool...

what are the two settings, you are referring too, i guess you meant ESC and DC, i looked at the manuals that came with my VCMs, but it doesn't explain what the two settings are or what they do... i normally focus my VCMs, cameras, at dusk, just when the sun starts to set...

I thought I was over the top having a PTZ camera at home. Just depends on the problem you are trying to protect against. One thing I truly agree with you on is that OVERT is good let the SOBs see your cameras and likely it will put off all but the most determined intruders THEN JUST SHOOT THE B*RST*RDS. PS I have a mix of overt and covert cameras in case they do decide to try and get in. nothing extreme about what i did..... when i said i cut down trees around my house, i clearly stated, " the first thing i did around my home was to cut down any trees that offered a place to hide...." you see, that is why it is so important to R-E-A-D a post before commenting on it.... anyone who is involved with security will surely confirm my beliefs that trees covering/blocking a window , could be used by those who have an intent to break into a home...

i am gonna guess that they are getting in through the windows that have the trees near them, those trees have to go, they provide a easy spot to hide, the first thing i did around my home was to cut down any trees that offered a place to hide.... do you have any signs displayed, advertising your security system, we have ADT at our home, one sign in front of home and one in back, plus our homes cameras are visible, so the way i see it is, that they are gonna have to be one dumb MF to think about hitting our house... when there are other homes in the neighborhood that have zero protective layers.... i have been thinking about the FogShield system, just in case they get in... http://www.fogshield.com/

After doing a lot of reading on the forum I think that I have changed my mind. I will be putting up motion activated flood lights around the house, so I will not need the IR cameras. I will instead use a DTN camera and with the savings be able to get more outside cameras. I looked at the CNB VCM-24VF, and am trying to decide on the inside cameras. I definitely need 5 outside cameras but would like to get 6 or 7 and 6 indoor but not sure which one to use still any suggestions. The dvr needs to be easy to use and set up with good unlimited tech support, I would also like as large of a hard drive that my budget will allow and would like to record in the highest resolution possible. I was going to use a 12vdc power supply but now am thinking of using a 24vdc instead. Also can someone tell me if I should still use the rg59 siamese 18/2 or use the cat5e, if I use the cat5e can I run the video and power in the same line or do I still have to run rg59. I will be putting the system in a closet by the laundry room on a shelf and the cable runs will be the longest of 80-90ft and closest will be 15-20ft. I thought that I was sure of the system, but now I have too many questions. Also anyone that would like to give me a quote is welcome to send it to my email. I will bb purchasing the system in the next week or two at the most. i have several VCM-24Vfs and find them to be excellent cameras, and they are very affordable, you would probably pay 3 to 4 times for a well known maker Sony, Panasonic, that you will pay for these...and the VCMs have all the bells and whistles... and yes you can run power and video in a Cat5e cable... you shouldn't have a problem running either cables at the distances of which you speak.... as far as the cameras, based on what i have discovered, most from talking with others on this site, is that you should avoid cameras with built-in IR, always go the separate route...

does anyone have any experience with, or opinions on the VCB-34VF cameras, they appear to have some nice features, i am presently using the VCM-24VFs, but these might be nice to use in the front of the house, dealing with automobile headlights, due to the Eclipse feature.... plus they appear to be much more sensitive to light, down to 0.0002Lux, as opposed to the VCM-24VF 0.005Lux.....

yes, the WDR does appear to be much sharper, then Eclipse...what about the 1/3" Double Scan CCD, doesn't that help improve image...also what is that DSS you mentioned, how does that work...

No, I am very happy with the VCM-24VFs. It's just that I saw the VCB-34VFs and wanted to know if they were maybe better, plus they had that digital zoom built in. It was just a thought. Thanks for info.

i have to agree with Birdman, use separate IR, i myself am new to this whole CCTV thing, i started out with one of those ebay packages, i learned real fast, they are junk, now i have been replacing all the cameras, for me, i got hooked on the CNB line, specifically the VCM-24VFs and i am using the IR MIR 1000 illuminator, i tell you its not even needed, due to the specs of the VCM-24Vfs, its a True Day and Night camera... but you are at the right place for advice, listen to Rory, Soundy or Birdman, (not in any preferred order), they know their stuff... it was their views of the CNB VCM-24VF that made the decision for me... i would give that camera a try, you will be impressed...

what i plan on doing, once i get the Haier TV is to get some poster board, and drawing some shapes and images on it, kinda like an eye chart at the doctors office, and then placing the board in the location that i want most defined and focused,,,,then focusing the cameras for the best image from those locations.... also what i like about the Haier is the rechargeable battery, i don't have to have a trailing power extension connected to the TV...
