  1. Just wanted to update folks on my experience with the Optex RLS 3060 lasers. I went with multiple lasers in conjunction with multiple Axis IP cameras and using Milestone vms for perimeter security. All I can say is it is incredible. No false alarms and it catches all real events. With milestone you can actually see the laser scanned field, see and track the threat as it moves and simultaneously view the camera or cameras triggered by the laser(it tracks size, speed and direction of threat). The other great feature is being able to activate different external IR illuminators from the laser based on which laser zone is tripped, activate outdoor speakers with verbal warnings, send alerts to me and set off the monitored alarm system. I have previously used video motion detection which was an epic fail, video analytics which was better than vmd but still left me disappointed, pir's with each camera which reduced false alarms but never gave the precision and options like the rls 3060 laser. You can tailor the scanned laser field to exactly match your physical outdoor layout down to inches so even elaborate/intricate yards can be custom matched.

  2. Just curious, what made you chose that PIR sensor say vs. the less expensive Optex LX-402? Let us know how it works out as I'm sure most of us are interested in improving motion detection accuracy.

My thoughts on using the redwall sip series are twofold. First, I needed a long range detector. Second, the lx series has one element and the sip series has 3 elements with two being near field where you can use "and" logic hopefully reducing false alarms. We will see how it pans out. I hope I'm not disappointed.

  3. The connector comes with the camera.

It's in a bag in the box that the patch cord is in.

I may be able to scrounge one up if you can't find it.

You would connect the NO of the PIR to pin 3 and the Common to pin 1. In the DI/DO configuration page you would set DI 1 to open as inactive.

I will have to get a P series camera web gui open in front of me to verify the settings.

Before connecting your PIR to the camera verify with a continuity tester you have an open circuit with no motion and a closed circuit with motion.

Once again Mr. Smith has solved my problem. Thanks your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Just thought of one more question....ok two. Is it possible to put more than one PIR sensor to one camera and does that trip an event if one of the PIR's goes off or do both have to go off to record? Also, can you have one PIR connected to two cameras so if the PIR is tripped both cameras start recording?

  4. I could use a little help with connecting a Redwall PIR to axis p3367ve camera. I see the camera has a four pin I/O port with pin (1) being ground, (2) 3.3 V DC, (3) digital input, and (4) digital output. First question is what is the connector called that fits the I/O port in the camera and where do you get it? Second, do you connect the PIR sensor just to the ground (1) and digital input (3)? Third, do you have to add any resistors or LED's across? Finally, what else am I missing? I realize I will have to get 12 v dc to the PIR sensor. Thanks to everyone here, y'all have been so helpful on addressing other issues for me.

  5. If you have time you can demo them all and see which works the best for needs/wants.

I realize this is the best thing to do but I guess I was just too excited trying to get the ideal design correct from the start. I will just have to slow down and do some demos.

Any thoughts on the motion detection and axis cameras?

I maintain Systems with thousands of P3367s and 3364s using Avigilon as the VMS. Motion detection is not an issue at all.

Exacq requires annual maintenance fees Avigilon does not.

I have nothing to gain by recommending Avigilon to you. Yes I work for an integrator that sells it but they also sell Genetec Security Center, and others.

I have Casinos, Universities, Hospitals, State Goverment, and Large corporations on Genetec and Avigilon.

I chose Avigilon in my own home and I had to pay for it.

Thanks, pm me when you get a chance.

  6. The more I read in this forum the more questions I have so please bear with me.

Background....residential system with six axis p3367ve cameras and five axis p3364v cameras. Was planning on using stand alone pc (i7 with 24 gigabytes ram, 256 gb ssd for vms and 2tb 7200 rpm hd for recording) as server running axis camera station which is their full blown vms(not their free camera companion) but reviews of 3rd party mobile app (eyespyfx) is horrendous.

I need to be able to view cameras through mobile app when alert is sent. I see milestone appears to be regarded well here as well as exacq. Many here also seem to recommend avigilon alot but most of them seem to have an avigilon affiliation imho. Thoughts on which vms keeping in mind which cameras I'm using. Finally, some have mentioned issues with motion detection on axis cameras. Does downloading axis' video motion detection 2.1 address this or am I better off using motion detection on the vms side? Sorry about the long winded post but wanted to get all pertinent facts out. Thanks.

  7. This is off topic but I am interested since it was brought up. What are the concerns with Axis Camera Station as the VMS? I realize it does not have all the features of some VMS's but I went with it trying to stick with the vendor of the cameras hoping that support would not be an issue if a problem arose. Thanks again.

    It's free.

    That should sum it up.

The free software is axis camera companion which lets the camera do the processing. Axis camera station is their vms that does the processing and requires a paid license for each camera. I think MSRP for eleven licenses is around $1200. I was wondering if anyone has concerns with camera station (VMS you have to pay for)

  8. Very nice cameras BTW.

I would go with a pair of the Cisco SG300-10P

These are good bang for the buck switches with Gigibit uplink ports.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=SG300-10P&N=-1&isNodeId=1

They have external power supplies and are dead silent.

Based on your camera selection your not on a shoe string budget.

Although down the road I would look at getting a real VMS. If your going to have less than 24 cameras Avigilon Core would be a good affordable choice.

  9. I am in need of help choosing the appropriate managed POE switch for my residence. I have used the search on this forum and read several threads but I am still unsure. I have six axis p3367ve cameras and five axis p3364v cameras (using a standalone PC as a server running axis camera station). The problem is the switch will be located in the house in a area occupied by my daughter and noise is a concern. Should I use two fanless switches like cisco SF302-08MP or SG300-10MPP? Will they generate too much heat? Should I use different switches? I am open to any and all suggestions. Thank you in advance for your time and help.
