I just spent half an hour writing Costco.ca an email (begging for better cameras) which got deleted because of an error from their servers, So I'm... short right now so please bear with me...So the 4ch is $1000 here in Canada but I still think it's worth it because of the warranty... Yes or No?
yes, retail is 1,200us, warranty/return/support all worth the price.
Who's comparable (with warranty)?
whom else sells ip cameras this cheap with this kind of support?
Now the 4ch has 4 real ports, the 8ch still has 4 real ports but the software allows for 4 more cameras you just need a switch.. correct?
yes, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833181163
It may come with an extra 1TB hard drive but an extra $500 for 1TB and a software upgrade seems strange. Would it not be better to just get 2 of the 4ch systems?
i agree, two 4ch nvrs... pss should work with all cams as one. buellwinkle needs to really answer this. pm him..
4 cameras on 24/7 doing 720P @ 30fps on a 1TB
drive... How long before it starts to rewrite over itself? a week?
5-7 days..
Thanx for the help guys!

ssuro11...big improvement! care to share where you bought your lenses?? rather purchase in states than have them shipped from china.

When I use an NVR, I plug it into a TV. Sure, I could have two NVRs and use two HDMI ports but then I can't see all the cameras on one screen. You can use PSS or DSS software to do this, but then you need a PC, negating some of the benefits of an NVR.good point...
lowpro dont forget to post some picks with your new lenses "if and when" you get them
-
why cant you daisy chain to nvrs?? crossover cable? like linking two pcs. keep it simple, just use two separate logins and settings. dns settings can be on the same user account. (noip) you will also get better frame rates.

As of this writing, this NVR supports IP cameras made by: Dahua, Arecont Vision, Axis, Canon, Dynacolor, Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony and Onvif.

PI Mfg has a 4 port POE that works well anis cheapor the redesigned with front ports; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833181163
and yes the nvr supports a second hd.

BIKE, be looking forward to your input on those lenses, maybe some still picks? enjoy your vacation!
BUELLWINKLE, is it possible where the light is placed may be the problem? i saw your review and video on these cams, your streetlight is above the sight of the cam and the video looks great. my situation is all my lighting will be in direct view of cams. this must have an adverse affect??? optimum lighting would be behind cam... am i correct on this???
-
hey BIKE, did you try those lenses????

I found out from Q-See that they received their 4-channel nvr's last week on Monday. So any orders that they shipped that Monday on out are 4-channel nvr's. They had been out of the 4's and subbed with the 8's. Bummer!surprised they even admitted to that? i am pretty sure theirs a truth in advertising law... i know nobody would complain about getting a better 8ch. nvr BUT you have consumers wanting a 8ch. nvr who may not take a liking to that statement. still waiting for my delivery, how i would love a 8ch.

Question: is it true the costco 4cam 4ch. nvr deal is not considered a electronic item? (90 days return policy) i read somewhere within the threads a member spoke to a costco employee about returning the unit and was told non-electronic return applies. also what is the standard return policy time?
costco return policy:
We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell with a full refund. The following must be returned within 90 days of purchase for a refund: televisions, projectors, computers, cameras, camcorders, touch screen tablets, MP3 players and cellular phones.

Sold out on the 4pack+DVR ($699). I'd be willing to dump my analog DVR+cameras for this as a straight upgrade. You're essentially paying for the cameras and getting the 1TB NVR for $99.Was it ever available in the stores or just strictly website?
online only in the ny area...
costco has the 4ch. with two cams. for 599

My order of lenses from DX came in (17 days from Hong Kong). The 2.8 just doesn't fit. The 3.6mm is good. It covers about 75 degrees of field of view. Sometime this weekend, I'll play with the 12mm and 16mm lenses.bike who is "dx" have a link?

Got my package today, ordered them on weds. It's a 4 channel. :weep:Rats! That's all that's keeping me from ordering now. I really want the 8 ch. but it seems warehouse roulette determines which one you get.
I wonder if Q-See can upgrade it for you after the fact? Or, could you return to Costco and try again?
i here ya dave, bought two 4ch. kits to substitute the 8ch. model... i figure if i can get the kits this cheap (699) a 8ch kit with eight cameras will cost you an easy 2k+. the plus on having two 4ch kits, 8 poe ports, 2tb hds, better frame rate, shorter lengths of cable runs to nvrs. eventually split 1080p cameras across two nvrs, saves space. honestly i think qsee made a huge mistake only offering the 4ch. model at costco, lots of consumers will just buy the dahua branded models. guess their trying to get the most dollar from the introduction BUT unaware how many of us know theirs a substitute for qsee.
-
bought two 4ch. kits today, needed 8 channels. probably have an extra 4 cameras if anybody is interested...??

How responsive is the system when reviewing recorded video? Can you review live and recorded video at the same time?
Best,
Christopher
thats a question for buellwinkle, the network camera critic! " title="Applause" />

so if this is a 8ch NVR, and i have 4 cameras powered through the NVR PoE ports and lets say I have 2 other IP cameras powered through a PoE Swtich, then How does the NVR know that there are 2 other cameras connected to it?software scans your network, qsee automatically scans.
nvr could be in place of switch for on site recording
you also should know you can stack switches/poe switches/bridges
Dahua cameras now at Costco
