    Double check what resolutions the Synology NAS's support. I *believe* they only record up to 1080p (i.e. you won't be recording the full 2592 x 1944 image, to the NAS at least). Their software in the latest release of Surveillance station has gotten somewhat buggy, random disconnects to my Axis M5014, and the Java based interface crashes occasionally.

     

    But on that note, I like Axis cameras, they are SUPER easy to setup and use.

     

    Not meant to hijack the thread, but nice to know that it's buggy at the moment. I've had about 10-15x disconnects a day, and I thought it's because I completely dismantled my HFW2100 (so I would put a big hole in my front door) and maybe somehow I did something wrong I shouldn't have updated it last weekend....

    It can't work without DNS. DNS is the service that maps IP addresses to domain name. Without DNS, you would have to enter your SMTP's server's IP address, not their domain name. If you don't like google's, go on your PC, open a command window if it's windows, or a terminal window if it's a Mac. Enter ipconfig /all on Windows or ifconfig -a on a Mac and see what the DNS server that you PC is using and use the same one.

    @techwizard - I'll try that one next, I just have some trouble applying for one now (I never use my ISP e-mail, I almost always change ISPs after a year or so)

     

    EDIT: finally got it working-- you have to save the settings first before sending an email test! The motion detection though is too sensitive even with the lowest setting, and it might be unusable for me. I will be try to tweak it later, the got to do some shopping first....

    From what I've seen on my blog, people don't set the DNS properly. Try setting it to Google which is 8.8.8.8. Without DNS setup, it won't be able to find your email server.

    In any case I already tried that (that's actually the default one configured in mine) and have tried some things from here:

    still doesn't work-- so I'm hoping some guys has one working properly and the only difference is hopefully the firmware.

    Hey guys,

     

    I recently bought the 1.3 bullet cam (HFW2100) and it's working incredibly nice with my Synology NAS.

    What I want to do though is to only send a notification when a specific area has motion sensor triggered, so the plan is to use the motion sensor of the cam and send an e-mail notification. The problem is, I have tried connecting to TLS/SSL/no authentication with every configurable port (25/465/587), use direct ips instead of domain name and still it doesn't work (on the other hand, the e-mail alert of Synology is working perfectly).

     

    So, has anyone used the e-mail notification of the cam and any tips to make it work? Here's the version of my firmware (maybe the problem is firmware related):
