the 4 channel GE StoreSafe is a good unit to buy if you want a 4 channel, the 10 and 16 channel units are kind of high priced. Im looking at the Bosch 9 and 16 channel Divar2 w/ DVD now for my high end, and the Hunt HVR-08EP and the Hunt HVR-16QP for my mid range 8 and 16 channels. They are basically the same board made by Web Gate inc. but Bosch has added more features and custom software. The Kalatel 4 ch Store Safe is stil a great unti to just plug and play and leave it .. as for where to buy send me a PM / email .. To wipe the drive you will need to look in the menu programming, for something like Disk maintenance. Erase/Wipe Disk. Rory
  3. ahh, ok. He might want to check out the Bosch Cameras using Bilinx: http://www.boschsecurity.us/images/F01U004510B.pdf

If the IR Cut Filter is removed at night, then yes it will work for 840nm, normally. You have to check though to make sure it has an auto removable IR cut Filter, or whether it stays on all the time (as with the one I have), or, if the one you ordered doesnt have one at all. ---------------------------------------- Purpose of IR Filter in Color Cameras An IR filter – or IR cut filter - is a color filter blocking the infrared light. There are several good reasons for using an IR-cut filter. Using a color camera to achieve realistic colors in white light requires an IR-cut filter. The color spectrum seen by the human eye is quite limited compared to the spectrum seen by a CCD camera. Especially, in the near infrared region of the spectrum the difference in sensitivity is significant. This is important to know since many light sources, including the sun, emit infrared light. A CCD color camera in daylight without an IR-cut filter will therefore see a significant amount of infrared light resulting in strange colors. Another reason for using an IR-cut filter is the limited color correction for many lenses. It is difficult to design imaging optics covering both the visible spectrum and the near infrared spectrum at the same time. Therefore, many lenses have different depth of focus for the visible and the infrared spectrum. Anyway, the IR-cut filter cuts away a significant amount of the overall collected light and thereby affects the sensitivity in a negative way. In general, color cameras are one factor less sensitive compared to monochrome (depending on the CCD chip). This is primarily due to the IR-cut filter. Info courtesy of Jai Camera Solutions ---------------------------------------- An IR cut filter basically, when it is on, such as in the day, you will get great color images. An auto removable IR cut Filter, means its on in the day and off at night, for IR pick up. If the IR cut filter is fixed, then it will not recognise IR. Rory

that looks alot like the Provideo Exview Bullet ive used, High Resolution, at least the specs are the same, and same size by the looks. If so, as we know they are all OEM cameras anyway, Provideo I mean, then it is a good little camera. It still requires some light and wont be as low light as a BW though it is very impressive. Fact it has an IR Cut filter makes it seem like the same one. Post some clips if you get a chance Rory
  8. its cheaper to make them in China/Taiwan .. lets not forget Korea also.
  9. Darn, hey if you have no need for it send it on down I like to mess with this stuff. ... ill tell you who makes the card at least .. Software resembles the DigiFlower card software from another OEM i have used just yesterday . If so it really isnt a bad card. But $197 is way way way below any sales price on that speed card .. so more than likely it is a knock off, or they just really over ordered or OEMed the Card themselves, wrote their own software, and then maybe, the software just doesnt do a whole lot?? The cards themselves from Taiwan and China dont cost much at all, heck probably can buy them in bulk for like $10 each, but the cost is in the Software, as thats what makes a PC DVR work .. But its not an Iview card thats for sure ...regardless of software. Rory
  10. Ok got this Card to work, very simple actually, with Pocket PC. Speed wise I imagine the slow refresh is due to the WiFi and the Pocket PC refresh itself, being a small 250mhz CPU and small memory, but other than that, images are very very crisp. This is a cool feature for sure. We even can view it from the other end of the island over the internet, basically anywhere we can get online wirelessly with the Ipaq, it just works. This is definately yet another great feature from a PC card, I have yet to crash .... I will post a full "post mortom" in the next day or so. (PS. I should also tell you, you can control your entire Home Entertainment Center/Home Theatre with this same Ipaq Pocket PC) for the original 2048x1356 Image, click below: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/images/xtremePDAXLarge.jpg

Yeah for sure, it is still a good brand, Email them and ask them for a Firmware Upgrade, if they have one. Also, Wipe/format the hard drive. Reset everything to default. Then see how it performs. DM is still a good embedded brand, I just dont like the menu, network software, and features, as much as the Kalatel units, and more so, the price in the US it is much more $$$ for a lesser unit. Plus they are slower display modes. Other than that, you kept the right DVR Its considered a High end Embedded RTOS DVR. This is the small 4 channe DVR right?? If it is the one Im thinking of, its cute and does the job, I worked on one once a year ago. Rory
  12. First, alot of PC cards only can run on Intel, so check that part of it. I had that issue myself last week. At least the software, not always the card itself. A card is a card, you can use any capture software with almost any card, and its not that hard even to write your own software, if you are a developer. Second, though they say the requirements, I think they go way under on that. Id definately look at a new video card, at least 64MB, even better if you can get a hold of a 128MB, they are like $40 in the US right now. The processor seems like it may also be too slow. Though you can push that also by adding more memory. Basically, thing I would try, short of trying a different PC, is 512MB memory, and at least 64MB video card. I had a PC actually with a card I got a while back, inherited it, and it was working in the clients PC. I had a 2.2Ghz Intel with 128MB DDR, and shared Video, set to 32MB so my main memory went down alot. Anyway, short story, card would cause BLUE screen straight through, or just freeze my display .. even though their mimimum was very low, like what you said there ... So id definately try a faster video card, and also some more memory, if that doesnt work still, then unfortunatelty a new PC. You can get a good one for $300 now refurbished .. check out TigerDirect.com. Im using one of their refurbished Compaq/HPs now I got for like $250!! Athlon 2.4Ghz, 512DDR, 60GB HDD, and I put in a 128MB DDR Card. Last thought, could be a driver issue, maybe reinstall everything, at least the drivers. Do you know what card it is? Rory

    Camera Wanted

That's the Extreme EX82 Dual Camera, 150' IR, though they all claim 150', Extreme Does say its only 150' indoors, and 75' Outdoors, but im getting at least 90' there outdoors as thats the distance from the camera to the Pool House, i put the alarm beams in so thats how i know Reason Im getting more IR there than the others is Placement of the camera pretty low down, and the reflection from the surrounding walls. Notice the difference from that, and the Beach camera, which are the Same, EX82. The Beach one is all wide open with no reflection besides the far beach wall which is over 100' away. They have a 250' version of this camera now .. more $$$ though .. they both have 1 color camera and 1 BW camera, a Photo Cell, and a seperate collection of LEDs array which can be changed when needed, though they claim up to 10 years on them ..Id propbably go more the 5 year way on that ..havent gone yet though. They also have built in fan and surge protection, and full settings. Rory

  16. who makes DigiNet? I think I may have inherited that card from someone, is it an Eylssa Card? Yeah the pocket PC is a seller man, we showed some clients today and they were astonished. It is slow video, but, very high quality, even on the smallest video quality setting on the Pocket PC. It does the job ...what more from a 250Mhz CPU right.. Rory
  17. the PC seems like it may not be up to par. Other than that, what PC Card is it?? In Quad mode you see the 3 cameras all at once no problems? Rory

ok, I was looking at the smaller units, Yep for sure let us know how they are this is the one I used from COP, http://www2.cop-usa.com/ebproductdetail.asp?id=332 I think it is a Hallogen Bulb also, as it has no LEDs.. Rory

They are similar to the COP USA OEM ones I used before .... they generally work to maybe 40', spot, at least the 12V and 24VAC ones..

Yep, Extreme IS expensive, though after using several other OEM IR Spot Lights, I only use the Extreme now, or nothing .. In the UK though, it would be Derwent, they make the IR for Extreme, they are all one company now actually. http://www.derwentcctv.com/home.asp They also have smaller IR LEDs and Bulbs also, such as the UF100, EX12, EX26LED. They are also well known for their Integrated IR Cameras (which come with seperate LED/Camera Design), as well as vandal proof domes, exlposion proof cameras, balistic cameras, and underwater cameras. What monitor to use

No prob. That said, I have used this before and it was much better: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=711308&CatId=386 But still doesnt compare to the quality of a CCTV Monitor. Kalatel has a couple 500TVL LCD Monitors for CCTV that Id like to test out, down here it is difficult as they are so expensive, due to 45% Customs Duty. You may be able to find a GE kalatel Distributor in your area and just go in and ask to see what the quality looks like. I have a friend though that saw their 20" Public View LCD, which comes with a built in Ultraview camera, for a Door Entrance in a Mall in Miami, and he said it looked very clear. But then his idea of clear is not always the same as mine. Anyway, if you do get to test one out, please let us know. They claim they are much better than a PC LCD, but sometimes manufacturers can tell fibs Provideo also have a couple, but the price is not much less than the GE Kalatel units, and the Provideo ones are probably more OEM than the GE. . Im switching one out on an install right now. They dont come close to the Kalatel units as far as embedded stand alones go. Perhaps their most expensive unit is better .. the ones I have used are the Digital Sprite 2. Cant stand them, and a 6 channel version is more than the Kalatel 10 channel version and close to the price of their 16 channel.

    What monitor to use

You can, but the quality of the image is terrible, we have used them before. Thats why I have been looking around for cheaper CCTV Designed LCD monitors, but so far they are all still v ery expensive.
