As for a normal camera, so to speak, ExtremeCCTV has a housing that is used in the antartic or north pole, something like that, no heater needed - in fact I have one installed down here, dont ask why!!!
-
no that can just be the change over from color to black and white, the slide that moves across the CCD that kills the chroma. Good thing though is it uses a CDS sensor to tell it when to switch. Still need to see the specs.
-
Same here, without the american military the Bahamas wouldnt be a free country either.
-
specs are good, I dont see that it has a mechanical IR cut Filter though, just that is switches from day to night mode. Do you have the link to the manufacturer for more info?
-
Well, then you REALLY don't want to catch that thief then now, do you? they are on crack, they move kinda slowww... and hang out in one spot tripping for a while ..

How long can you run the cables for video and power?
rory replied to squale's topic in Security Cameras
cool glad you got it fixed -
man I was looking at that weather thing, they must be on crack dude ... or they never read our temp gauges ... june july august and sept are always in the late 90s day and night, last few years have been worse then ever ofcourse ..
-
actually from around april to october it is always in the 90's ... dont always believe what you read We have maybe 1 month of 60-70 degree weather which is right now, its freezing to us and its like 66-76 degrees .. Trust me, its darn hot here most of the year ...we have that tropics type of heat, and no, I hate it to death! Sweating in bed for 9 months out of the year is horrible.. Especially when our power goes off every day and night during the summer months thanks to 3rd world equipment .. ive had heat stroke in attics installing alarms too many times to remember .. our temp stays the same from day to night also, never changes .. ofcourse its no dessert like arizona .. he he he .. at least we got water ..! Oh yeah, Freeport is the cold island in the bahamas ... and down south more in Long Island they are on the Tropic of cancer so all my family (white people) are black (extremely tanned) !

yeah what herm said Modulated video from CCTV is not going to be great anyway .. not like a direct input into the TV's AV input, and even then, not as good as using a CCTV monitor.

if yah want a good black and white high res, GE Kalatel has one in the same price range of the vicon, couple $$ more, but a better product, and has the IR spectrum range up to 1100nm in case you do decide to add IR lighting ... im on a clients PC so I may not be able to reply ASAP, have to reload windows in a few minutes .. just checking in .. rory

hi, well to start with, Vicon is not high end .. As for good Day Nights, Panasonic, and yes, GE Kalatel. Ive just had terrible luck with GE's Ultraview Wide Dynamic, other cameras are great. Others are Sanyo, which is around the same price. I have a panasonic Day Night Wide Dynamic to test yet, a client has it is waiting to run the wire. Ive used the GE and the Sanyo in the past and are very good, just want to try the Pano for the Wide Dynamic Feature. Ofcourse those are in the $400 range though. Even higher end can be the Panasonic Day Night 1/2" Camera, and ofcourse ExtremeCCTV cameras. Now, if you will have adequate lighting, then an Exview is a good way to get around the price range you are looking at, in a high quality product. I have to recommend the GE Kalatel KTC-840CE Exview as I use them and they are great, really. As for price PM me or post in the dealer forum. Phillips also makes some good cameras, but I have not personally used their Day Night or Exview versions, just once I used their standard color camera. Housings for the above I always use the GE Weatherproof Housing, withstood the 2 hurricanes we had here last year. The cheapo $20 housings didnt last at all (other clients had them and we had to replace them all) Rory

we use neither down here ... and its hot year round .. rory
-
it will be slow and they will be dissapointed, unless it is using wireless internet broadband .. which doesnt exist down here. . Ive used Phone based video with the Kalatel units, slowww.
-
hi havent used that camera yet. They are generall decently built cameras though, very weather proof. whats ~ mean ..? around about, greater than, equal to, or less than?

anyone actually ever get a good pcture from these ..? Ive come to the conclusion that they are either just crap, or faulty. This is my 3rd one, same crappy image as the last one. The first one I had to send back, and still wasnt great, it was only used in a day time install. The last 2 are day, and at night, indoor retail apps. Basically, they look like crap, have absolutely no low lighting capabilities, and when you do use the defaults the AGC makes the image look terrible. If you get a good picture in the day, then it looks like crap at night, im talking indoors now with lighting, day and night. Sorry im bugging because I have gone through all the settings over the past 4 or 5 days and now im fed up, there is nothing left to do but send it back and get a regular camera. Ive emailed GE Tech Support but they cant offer me any help on this camera!!!!! They claim it is supposed to be the best, Yeah RIGHT!!! They need to drop that pixim crap as its not worth $$ they charge. I luve their 840 Exview cams great images, but this Ultraview is truly a waste of money t o get a terrible pixelised dull totally freaked out video image. Back to backlighting until I try the Pano with SD2. Rory

depends where you are located. I always add Louroe Microphones when the client wants audio. Ofcourse here we have no laws in respect to that. Rory

by the way, cat5 and UTP are different cables. The cheap baluns we use that claim 2000' are totally different also, and dont come close. When they do, you get video quality loss with them ... I got less quality over only 150' with a balun, same probably as I would have got with RG59 ... but it served the purpose ..utilizing Cat5 for alarm, phone, cctv, and network; and it was cheap... $25 per balun ... using www.NVT.com equipment, they claim 1.5 miles with Cat5, and 3000 feet with UTP. Dont quote me, I havent used it yet personally, but they well respected in this area (and also expensive). I have emailed between them numourous times if you need a person to contact, let me know. You can actually use their Amplified Transceivers, as a type of repeater, for further than 1.5 mile jobs. The Coax and Cat5/UTP Ports work both ways also, on the transceivers, means you can either, using 16 cables as an example, put in 16 RG59 Cables, and output 16 Cat5, or input 16 Cat5 and output 16 RG59 ... plus they have all kinds of protection built in .. crisp video at long distances .. I have seen their active reciever in action and it looked very good, using PTZ cameras. However, I have not used them myself (disclaimer!) yet ... Rory
