  1. I just know Ive always disabled it on Windows ... "..with the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) system in its default "enabled" state, any of the many millions of Internet-connected UPnP-equipped Windows systems could be remotely commandeered and forced to download and run any malicious code of a hacker's design. This includes using the machine to launch potent Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. This means that extremely damaging CodeRed and Nimda-style worms can now be written for millions of Windows machines. Whereas the Microsoft IIS server worms of 2001 found and infested 'only' several hundred thousand IIS servers, a Windows "Universal Plug and Play" worm would have more than ten million XP systems, in addition to many more Windows 98/ME systems, upon which to prey today." http://www.grc.com/UnPnP/UnPnP.htm

    Is WDR worth it?

I must say though, at least they all look very happy Bunch of depressed people around these clubs, or they put on those tough guy faces like they have no emotion
  3. Ive seen that with power issues before also, bad cable or too thin, eg. using telco wire to power a camera over 50' or so. You say its 14 gauge so that counts that out, maybe its just a bad camera. Have you tried another camera at the same spot? Also try powering the camera locally at the camera location to be sure, anything is possible.
  4. And while on power saving, if one enables all the extra features on a camera the camera will draw more current, over a longer distance this can degrade the image quality.
  5. Since 470TVL to 650TVL cameras typically have a total effective pixels of 768x494 ... and D1 is max 720x480 NTSC .. with most only recording 704x480 and stretching the image .. then no.
  6. the DVR only consumes about 25 watts anyway that sata power is the only power coming off the board though. If you dont use the right HDD, it might not perform well.

    DVR Motherboard

They generally come from the case manufacturer. Here is one I was looking at http://www.habeyusa.com/products_show.php?id=270&menu=4

    DVR Motherboard

I used something similar before but it had pigtails, was from a company in the US Called powertellecom. It pretty much sucked though, nice idea, but software was "unfinished". Just ordered their boards and put it inside any PC case. Some PC Case manufacturers also sell something as an option for certain cases, its called a BNC Backplane. Different than what is in your image though, but lets you turn say a 4U rack case into something that resembles more of a DVR. I havent used it but saw it recently as an option to a case I got, but that option was not on the retailers site in the US, just on the manufacturer's site in Asia.
  11. Eg. the exview model with 550TVL color camera, 420TVL bw camera, with IR, 6mm fixed lens. KPC-EXTW670NHDC6 As its fixed lens can just buy 4mm lenses for little money extra if needing wider. Its listed on KT&C's site and when I asked them a few months ago it was still available, some sites list it as discontinued, but others still list it, as special order. Im looking at it for a cheaper replacement to the old Extreme CCTV EX82's, as NO single CCD Day Night camera I have tested has matched their performance yet. Here is the camera, any other (non ip) cameras you can think of plz post them. http://ktncusa.com/english/viewtopic.php?t=375

    No Solution

Online price doesnt mean retail price, some prices I checked on that list are just barely under $1000 dealer putting them well over $1000 retail. In fact a $600 dealer price could be as much as $1200 retail. Remember we dont discuss dealer prices in the public forum, only retail. That said, nice camera finder
  13. Dahua DH-DVR3204LE-U manual

Yes its their 2U manual which generally covers all the 2U units. All their DVRs are basically the same anyway as far as general features go. The 32 ch also has the matrix feature. BTW cant fast play or fast forward all channels at the same time, but they say the next firmware update will address that.

  19. This will be great!! Ive started to work on it Ive found manually switching back and forth between full and tweaked skins to be annoying myself so I have to make it easier. By the way I now have the tweaked skin folder down to a tiny 2mb size from 50mb.

    Geovision gv-800 help!

if memory serves me correct .. and not saying it does not unless you have a 16 channel DVR card (or any geo 9+ channel card) But try this, with the 9-16 blue pigtail on the black input, switch the camera from one to the next BNC input while geo is already loaded. If it sees any video it will come up (no need to restart geo). If it still doesnt, redo each BNC input again but then each time restart Geo just to be sure. Also make sure the video signals are good, not too far or weak, if so then Geo may not pick up the signal, even if you see it direct to a monitor. I dont have a geo here to 100% verify reversing the cables, but I could check at a clients location tomorrow or the next day when I have to go down and check the DVR anyway for other reasons.

    Is WDR worth it?

Problem is, most progressive scan WDR cameras are terrible under low low situations, really not that great for outdoor day night apps. Also they suck at picking up really dark faces. I did the whole headlights test with for example the CNB Blue-i's (progressive scan) and it failed miserably. I cant speak for WDR such as the Panasonic's though. Also going by those youtube videos, he only needed a camera with good BLC. Besides thats a small room, a small door entrance, and a bright faced guy coming through it. Plus its really not that great, nothing much any camera that has lighting in the room can do anyway - the real issue is when the room the camera is inside is dark or dim. I did WDR in a store for the front door and the BLC was actually better, especially as it saw really dark faces, which the WDR did not. Also BLC let us see outside when someone was there. It even picks up the cars as they pass. I also did a warehouse recently and particularly the loading dock doors, yes I can see in and out but cant see hardly anyone's face (warehouse is really dim so backlighting is a major issue there). See it depends really, with the store WDR If I came out more, their face would have been brighter, but I wanted to only get the door for a good sized capture of the face. In the warehouse i had 2, both covering 2 doors each, both zoomed to different focal lengths, one was not that bad, the other could barely make out a persons face (silhouette). If you play with the zoom some could get it better, but that defeats the purpose of the camera, which is, it should just work. Bottom line is the WDR camera cant always be zoomed in for the perfect WDR position when dealing with real world apps. I think the manufacturers are tripping down on that. Also if one watches many other WDR samples on youtube, especially warehouses and loading docks, they would see it really doesnt work that great, not like WDR progressive scan is made out to be anyway. In fact in the case of the CNB and testing Monalisa's with Backlighting against their Blue-i's WDR, the monalisa tends to win. Ahhh .. marketing. I know one thing, im not wasting any more money on them ... maybe panasonic . but even them, this same warehouse app has existing pano WDRs that also have issues on the other loading dock doors, at $800-1000 a camera (local end user cost) .. kind of gonna probably not use those either. Plus as mentioned their night time capabilities do not match most decent TDN cameras. I have a video test I did of the WDR at the store, comparing it between no BLC, BLC, and WDR, with a number of different shades of faces and situations (people inside, people outside etc). Its not online though as its a private video (but I could send the link if someone wanted to see it). Ok I dug up some snapshots; no WDR, no BLC WDR BLC
