  1. You may be able to route through a proxy based in the UK possibly? I havent tried accessing it from outside the UK to see if there is a way round it - Im sure there would be somewhere, but its probably not legal.

Its actually a bit of a paradox, because if I want to watch the Iplayer while Im out of the country, I can't, yet Im paying for it as a UK resident. Im surprised in the age of taking legal action over just about anything that somebody hasn't tried to sue the BBC for denying them access to Easteneders while they are on holiday.

I have a client that uses Slingbox, has one here and one in the UK .. so she can watch it on her iPad or PC on either end .. so when she is here, she can watch her UK shows and even control her TV.

  2. I am trying for my own amusement to calculate eye safety levels. Here is one I did on an Raytec. I get a very different ratio than you when adjusting for the angle though.

Dont forget its not just about the distance but how LONG you look at it too.

Either way you dont want to stick your eyes 10" in front of any IR, unless you dont value your eyes.

  3. Osram "Eye Safety of IREDs used in Lamp Applications" has this bit (attached) that I have a question about.

Just never look at IR ... problem solved.

I cant look at it now, too much eye damage from years of working with it in the pitch dark in the field, especially all the Extreme gear - UF500 would literally burn your skin at up to 3 feet, nevermind the eyes. I dont care about what safe distances all the manufacturers claim, even they dont really know.

  4. From what n-n said BBC might consider that theft and as we know the brits like to try sue people .. almost as much as the yanks

course if they tried to sue anyone in this country for copyright infringement then they would need to get in a long line to never gonna happen - pirated DVD sales here on every corner and even the brick and mortar video stores are loaded down with them.

  5.

We also used to watch sports on giant 300lbs CRT and projection TVs for many years.... last time I checked being old in the technology business wasnt a good thing.

    Old: 40" 480i crt

    new: 60" 1080p LED

put the 2 side by side and one cant help but giggle thinking about what once used to be awesome... or even "good enough"

So what you are saying is you are watching sports on 40" CRT monitors?

  6. Sounds like an interesting idea.

Drug trade here is now out of control, almost worse than the 80's/90's, people are getting murdered left and right now - and oh yeah that brings me to the other thing, here if they want money for drugs, well they are too lazy to go rob a house, they will just walk up to someone and shoot them in the head and take their money. There is a big cash for gold industry here now, so the criminals go around ripping chains and stuff from people, selling those for cash, then buying a gun to go out and rob and murder. Since most are thugs they do it for partying, drinking, drugs, or girls.

  7. The CNB bullet is not rugged at all, the ring underneath is flimsy and its easy for anyone to turn the camera.

Although it costs more check out the 700TVL KT&C models.

    Much better build and image.

they use the Sony Exview 960H Effio.

ok just looked at those.....not true day night...no ir cut filter?

All True Day Night with IR cut Filters.

  8. I never was a Mac fanatic, but I find the design of Macbook Air is really awesome.

Then you should really like the HP Elitebook.

Personally I find slim laptops way too difficult to actually handle in the field, need something to grip on.

And it is really convenient to have Mac OS and be able to run any windows program with tools like Parallels Desktop.

But if the MAC OS was any good there would be no need to use Parallels

  9. Dahua support told me they arent doing much with Blackberry as not many people using them now - i told them well in my country its still very big mostly due to the service roaming or something (clients that travel between countries alot) .. but anywho ... I was asking why they didnt have DMSS on the blackberry market.

he would have better luck if he had an android tablet .. looks like that is their priority now and is released before everything else (except PSS). Although they just released an HD app for the iPad, but its not free.

  10. Oh gotcha, yea I had this in 4 channels years ago the thing produces superb pictures, I was trying to hunt it down again. Now I know I can get this or the 7fp for cheaper. I appreciate identifying these machines for me guys thanks a lot. Iam assuming sean is Nellys site right? Its not listed on their site but will email. Thanks ago for the support.

The US distributors are just starting to get those in stock now so they wont be listed everywhere yet. They cost more than the regular units due to the full D1 each channel, and can hold 2 HDD.

  11. What if Rory is incapable of thinking outside the box?

BTW .. what if Rory made a tool like this- for FREE ? after all its not rocket science

See .. im always thinking outside the box .. but I need to know if its worth the time.

Nice thing though about if I made it, it could run on other OS and not just Windows ..

Since the one in question is limited to requiring the need for the .NET framework.

No I dont write Mac C++ etc but a stand alone app without the .NET framework can very easily be made to run on Linux or Mac with WINE. See .. outside the box .. again
