    PCI Bus Limitation - Resolution

I agree witht his statement, also many are recording at 640x480 instead of 768x576 depends on the quality of the camera actually, and if it has a the abilty to compensate for BLC and if that is central or fullscreen or programmable. yep always do this, sides, never seen anyone exit a doorway backwards

    DVR Cards Pros & Cons

Te main reason PC Based systems are so poulart is of course the price, there are also many other advantages, in truth you can always get faster recording speeds on a PC as it has a lot more power and therefore can generate faster recordings. You are right about PC's being a Beast, it is really hard when the bits come from all over the world, but it is an old addage that "you get what you pay for" a common misconception is that PC's are unstable, well, in some ways it's true and infact many computer people accept a certain level of crashes, purely because they are just simply "used to it" and therefore they accept a PC as stable, in saying that you CAN build a very stable PC, if the correct parts are chosen and if it is set up correctly. if you buya card and whack it into a computer and expect it to work...it simply will crash!!!! the fact is there are many adjustments to be made, partitions to be done and the correct hardware is always a must as compatatbility can be a huge issue.. In short ... PC's offer much more features than a Standalone will ever offer and more software is being developed every day that is made for windows and linux and can sometimes be used for DVR's to their advantage, this takes a long time to appear onto the DVR as they need to be written into the embedded system. What we will see soon is a lot of PC's running Embedded XP, the reason is they can take advantage of the latest technology developments but they do not need to install anyhting they do not need, hence the embedded solution si much more stable. Lets face it adjusting WIFI, rendering and sampling and overlay of powerfull video cards gets better every day, so you do not want to rle yourself out of the game by limiting your OS. There are really not all that many DVR card manufacturers, just different softwrae that runs on those cards, and before you say "but my card looks different" of course it does, this does not mean it doesn't come from the same manufacturer, when you buy Nike shoes they are not all the same but they do come from the same factory. For example Thomas's DVR card comes from http://www.comartsystem.com but they haev redone the software due to a SDK or from scratch.. the most popular DVR card in the market is the Geovision card, the main reason is the vast array of features that change so rapidly, it has an awefull GUI and very bad management, but it does have a load of features, making it very easy to sell. The Avermedia card is very popular as well but I guess it is different in every country, the IDIS machines are top notch and well priced as well.. Personally I preffered PC, but I am being swung around, not tottaly, but one thing I am now dead set against, is any company that sells cards only, sure.... you might build a nice machine but DOES your competitior and if his crashes, guess what your DVR brand gets a bad name.. so unless everyone can build them as good as you, the product you sell can loose it's reputation due to some very dodgy building of PC's. Youa re never paying the costs of the DVR card... not at all.. you are paying for the development of the software, hence why soem are more expensive than others. personally the Geo is alright but recording quality is better on a Standalone and when you take into consideration the time taken to configure and build a PC and support all those features and the likely hodd of it failing, it really works out similar in costs. PCI Bus Limitation - Resolution

iTS all about data, aint nothing out there using a PCI bus that can do massive data flow at larger resolutions, unless using hardware onboard compression, hence the new cards that have onboard compression!! they compress then send the data, no need for softwrae compression and it fits down the bus!

I want an authorised Geovision dealer to supply GV1000+cams

hay buy one card... direct from geo, then you are an end user... buy two and you are an official distributor for GEO!!! Seriously they will sell direct for you!!, hell they would sell to my cat FLUFFY, that has been dead for four years...if they got the chance!! id hate to be Geo distributor again!! in all honesty.. Geo is about the best PC based system out there, for the lower end, but their marketing is woeful, and their ethics make a 2$ hooker look like a person you would mortgage your house for to invest in. G.E.O.V.I.S.I.O.N GOT EVEN OUR VISUALLY IMPAIRED SELLING IT ONLINE NOW

Ganz ZC-Y30NH4 Hi Res Color Camera

I know everyone will now think i only promote Bosch, far from it, but they are a better camera and now are cheaper,...never used to be!! Couple of things worth mentioning about the XF. 15 BITS !!!!! much more data ...therefore much more control. 1000mtrs over RG59, no need for amps anymore and it reads the impedance. Auto shutter will adjust due to lighting levels.. Alarm inputs and outputs and Motion Detection...think about it, when you do motion detection on a DVR it is TIME LAPSE motion detection...so its not very field, this is much less accurate than a real time reality of every field from a camera!!

Ganz ZC-Y30NH4 Hi Res Color Camera

Awesome camera for the price, well it was until the XF came about, it has a programable wide dyn range onscreen so you can set the effect, very nice, but problem is the shutter does not auto adjust and there is no two way connection without additional cabling, its not bad and it led the way for some time, but the XF is Better, Cheaper and much easier to use!

    DVR Web Servers and routers

Two things... 1/ Turn of the darn Service pack 2 firewall that is bloody ON by defualt, it blocks everything. 2/ Try typing 127.0.0.1 into your browser on the actuall DVR, (while the program is minimised, not closed) this will allow you to check that the html server is working, regardless of any other networking, also make sure the darn windows firewall isnt on!!

    Dealers/Distributors

One other thing, while I am on the half drunk bandwagon.. Did you ever stop to think of the following: 1/ The research that Rory does, is time consuming, it takes an age to test products like he has done and to rewrite active x for controls etc. 2/ The lessons Thomas has taught on I.T. are from years of experience usually only gained from thousands of dollars spent on courses or an insatiable desire to learn. 3/ The business lessons taught by AVCONSULTING and the product references are the very best references given by experienced consultants who normaly charge up to thousands of dollars an hour. 4/ AND MOST OF ALL.. we have not paid ONE SINGLE CENT to join a group of elite proffesionals, learning all that can be learnt about CCTV, I know many books and many courses with less information and they cost thousands, secondly I know what it costs to design a site like this one, and even worse i know what it costs to host it, I also know how narrow minded most individuals can be when they build something this big, you..my friend are part of a global CCTV knowledge base and you have the worlds experts ready to help you... to tell them that you consider them making a living from and not exposing their margin, I find extreemly rude and arrogant. What Larry has built for us here was at HIS expense, and during his own time, I for one fully appreciate his efforts and his protection of those that have helped him to build it. Every product you have bought yourself in your life came from a manufactorer, and was probably sold to you by a distributor whom works his arse off to try to keep distributorship of the best product for you to enjoy, why the hell should you care how much money he makes as long as he is not selling you crap!!

    Dealers/Distributors

For One!!! Nope it wasnt my Idea!! For Two... I think it needs to stay, ok so retailers want to compare prices, does that mean that mr "I ony do one cctv job a year and I have no licence and I have no staff or overheads" prices should be what you consider as fair, of course there should be dealer prices otherwise you would not buy". Fact remains... if everyone compared prices it would bring prices down, and it is not like we make much anyhow, but everyone would want the cheapest price, not the best job, not the best support and not the best gear, by introducing our prices to retail, we would be allowing small companies that go BUST to dictate pricing levels, and I commend larry for not allowing this to happen. Do you go to KMART and ask them how much they paid for the Telly you bought, truth is they made very little on it and spent ages making a deal to get it into their possesion and then they had to advertise it, then they had to stock it and then they had to support it. If you want prices go to EBAY!! buy cheap **** and use this forum which really should tell you to "shove it" but they dont because all of the people here are excellent, all of them take their time to help, for one I commend Rory, he has posted many many posts to support people who try to bypass his own type of business. It is simple, we make a proffit so we can offer you support, we study the product so we can give you the best gear and we stock the gear so you can have it installed, we DONT make much money, it is US that has to employ staff it is US that has to PAY INSURANCE, it is US that has to learn the product, it is US thast has to stock the goods and it is US who provides you with the service.....the last time you got your car serviced ...did you ask the mechanic how much the parts cost him??

    multi-NAT routers / firewalls

I go for routers with VOIP that way I get to sell "free phone calls" as a gimick, it costs like 40$ more but allowing them free calls is liek a present, they love it and always closes the deal
  17. 1/ geo has two audio codecs to choose from, one is better than the other. 2/ Best audio Video combo i have seen s VCS, they combine the MPEG2 Video and the Audio together, hence no lipsync lag and can do stereo, it was pretty darn impressive but would need some bocooo bandwidth if you wanted many cameras!

    problem with auto log-in

1/ make sure when you first installed the softwrae you said YES to: "do you want to add to start up" this is junkwaneese (Taiwanese) for do you want geo to start up every time you reboot. 2/ Make suyre the password that you created is allowed to alog on auto, you can do this in the password seciton. 3/ make sure you set a defualt password to log onot the system on startup and make sure you check the tick that allows full screeen mode, this is int eh system config section..

Looking for a decent varifocal indoor dome

The Ganz domes are very good "Bang for Buck" ganz is pobably the best product you can buy for a cheaper price, the Bisch domes are excellent but more expensive, in all honesty, i have sold Ganz domes and they were popular, but the strange thing was they werent as popular as my OEM domes from Sunkwang, these were half the price and were better performers, they really are excellent and many had sent me back Ganz to be swapped.. Sunkwang must have a reseller in your area http://www.koreacctv.com beats me why they look so good, but we had sold thousands and thousands

    Crappy CCTV system

CRAP!!!! No one has more features than Geo!!! I hate Geo by the way, they are a bunch of buggers to deal with!! Mate i bet you have not changed your video source, I bet its set to 320x240, so when you blow it up it looks like crud, go to the hammer and screwdriver, find Video Source and change it to 640x480SW and you should see an improvement, do not forget to change it on the recording as well.. fact is resolution and compression affect everything, if you want graet pics then less compressiion is needed, but in CCTV everything is trade off: Larger Resolution= Larger files = less days kept. Less Compression = Clearer Images = Larger Files Cheaper Cameras = Less Resolution = Poorer Quality Faster Shutter= Lower Light = Darker Picture Wider Dynamic Range = More Noise = Less Detail MPEG2= Excellent Detail= Large Files ETC ETC ETC, fact remains... 1/ PC's will always have more features 2/ Standalones have better quality recordings 3/ PC's will achieve faster frame rates 4/ YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!!!!

    Another random thought

thats a crack up.. Me I got nothing, but hay we need nothing, i think if an Australian found someone robbing them, they would probably say " hay mate you wanna borrow my ute to carry that gear... you might put your back out and have to go on compo"... Truth is hear, we cant own gubns, infact all semi automatic weapons have been destroyed, happened shortly after we won the record for one nut killing as the most people in one day atport Arthur in Tasmania,,,, Man if you knew port Arthur, hell you would not even lock your doors there, no on robs anyone, but as usual we over reacted. to be honest the main reason I have nothing at home is I live in a protected complex in the middel of the city, no one would get in and even if they did there would be so many boo's from the many METROSEXUALS that live in the complex that the poor robber would feel ashamed not to be wearing an Amani Suit, but in truth, I just dont want one, for one.,.. I refuse to admit it is necessary, and for 2 I dont want it after working all day selling it and for 3 I would probably web enable it and forget I was naked one night and find nude pics of me on www.cctvforum.com
