    I would not buy anything off Ebay.. you can neevr be guarenteed you are not purchasing something illegal.

     

    howver before anyone does get on my back... there are good clients out there on ebay, but there aer some shonky's as well. Why risk it when you can buy from a distributor and get local support.

    Most suppliers will provede both fig8 and rg59 in the same cable, makes for an easier install. beware because we imported some cheap stuff from China and it near killed us... check the quality of the cable core and check the strands of the figure 8, some are not very well shielded.

     

    The way to know that you have good cable is this, it should have french chalk powder inside, this lets the cable slide beter inside the shielding and it should have a strip line (piece of plastic insert used for splitting the cable to seperate the fig8 from the rg59).

     

    The best way I have found to test it is to cut some off and you should be able to slide out either cable from its shielding, that is if you used a combined rg59 and fig8 cable.

    As silly as it sounds I can beat any price you get from Geo!

    We get importer level due to volume, I am aware of the prices offered to the US but because we help with development and volume we get guaranteed exclusive pricing. I can drop ship pieces to you but do not wish to expose our pricing on here .. drop me an email and I will send you the prices.. you will be impressed as it will be cheaper than wise micro.

    I thought that was the issue!

     

    Well done... Its amazing software, the only problem is supporting all the changes to all the people we sell it to.. so many changes means so many updates and so much support and as we do not charge for this service it becomes very time consuming.

    As always there is bugs with the latest releases thats why I dont sell the latest softwrae untill it settles, I would imagine you have lots of old versions on that machine, I would try to remove all .INI files with the GEO prefix and then get the actual version 6 full version on CD and re install.

     

    The one on the web has bugs!

    I would be happy to help, the only problem is that I only just recently sent them a wish list so I am halfway between the new one, I will email you some issues and suggestions as there are many and they would be too big to post on here.

     

    I guess the only issue is time, I may not have that done by next week but I will do my very best.

    I am currently talking to Katy form AVTECH, they are working on a I/P transmition box, it actually has some cool features but it is far from a polished product yet, it would seem they have not over come the interlacing problem yet.

     

    The box they sell is less than $100 US so pretty impressive for a four cam server, it also has a cool feature it takes a large cam image when viewing remotely and breaks that image into 4 equal qudrants and then if you click top left or bottom right of the picture etc it zooms to that area alone and does not zoom the rest of the picture, very handy for wide angles.

     

    I would eb very interested to know what pricing gets offered to you from them with their standalone box can you email and let me know as I will ask her too and would like to see if the same is offered.

     

    Also I can tell you where to get a simple standalone box with 4 inputs of video and 4 inputs of sensors, it will record at 100fps total but has no remote software or motion detection (unless you use the sensors to trigger it) and does not support removable HDD's BUT IT IS ONLY $200 US

     

    Pretty darn cheap!

    You kidding, one camera at a time!

    The only reason that your seeing one camera at a time is because the link you were given was one page toofar in the process and you didnt get to choose try this:

    Mind you he only has version 5.4.01 on that machine so the web cam can not do 32 or more cams it is limited to 16. Version 6 allows for plain web view or active x view and will download from the same log in an active x control program second to none.. you really should see version 6.

     

    What would have been a nice touch:

    You could have wired the I/O module to your DVD player so people could actually have controlled it, like press play or pick theri scene and with the listen in feature they could have listened to it.. would have been impressive, however it would lag a little on the audio only.

     

    Seven is a great movie by the way... dont give people that link you used before because they will not download the small geo file if they miss the first page, the only reason it worked for me is I have connected to many 5.4 machines from this pc and have the file already.

     

    The thing I like is that geo only makes you download that file or the active x once then next time, hey presto.. the new web cam looks ace.

    It is not just the sensor that determines the quality of image, however i agree the dome series housings are insanely priced. Email me the prices they gave you for cams and I will see how it compares to what we get.

     

    Ganz has several offices all as independant busineses, for exaple I cant get the I/P camera or thermal becasue they were made not in Japan.

     

    They all have different pricing levels but I may be able to help you if you email me as Japan is the head office and I know them quite well.

    1/ RG59 up to 100 Meters, Fibre optic for anything larger that can not have an amp in line. Cable quality differs depending on copper and sheilding.

     

    2/ I use a cable tray or Fly Leads, I once saw and amped termination box, it was very neat.

     

    3/ I try to use housings that have a hollow channel fro running the cables through the housing itself, sometimes it is unavoidable and then I use felxible conduit, I have made some electrical junction boxs before that go out to a housing to stop any chance of tampering.

     

    4/ Mostly loose but depends on the circumstance and whether noise or environment will be an issue.

     

    5/ I never use CAT5 unless completely neccesary.

     

    6/ There are many links on Fiber but I would pay someone as experience really counts on fiber, one connection done wrong can degrade perfomance but you would never find the problem, I leave it to the experts howver i plan to learn to splice cable this year some time. These guys are pretty good http://www.ifs.com.

     

    7/ The more you pay the longer it lasts, back focusing should be learnt, get a service monitor, purchase a resolution chart, never use a cheap lens on a good camera and always use two people to focus a camera.

    Could be a bunch of things however I would assume it is because you are using CAT5 which is not sheilded and your running the power right in top of it, see if your run is going near any EMI like Fluoro Lighting etc.

     

    A balan may fix the problem, however I NEVER use CAT 5 as degredation is too hard to prevent. You are running long runs therfore I would suggest HIGHER quality RG59 or Quad Sheilded RG6 as a last resort if you can not put a distribution amplifier in.

     

    The other things to note is that you may be using a Television instead of a terminated monitor and you need to check the voltage at the camera end.

     

    The best bet would be RG59 with a distribution amp or if you can afford it Fibre Optic Cable as it is not affected by any noise at all.

     

    I would guess that your signal is not strong enough and if it works on a monitor and not on DVR that would ring true as the signal strength is .1 of a volt different. Try changing the Gain control settings of your capture device or the camera as well and check your signal to noise rating of the camera.

    I once found a really cool site which had the perfect explanation of differnt lens angles, they used several pictures from several anlges and showed the same camera position so that you could see how the angle affects picture viewable size.

     

    They did this in the middle of a street between two buildings. I wish I could find the site as I want to ask them if I can use their images rather than making my own and add them to my web site.

     

    I would appreciate it if anyone could remember their site if you have seen it and I also ask if anyone knows of any good CCTV support sites that may be usefull.[/b]

    Also is there a scheduler for the email feature?

    It wouldn't do to have the email feature active all day long in case you have areas of high motion during the day, otherwise you could get hundreds of motion activated emails

     

    There is a scheduler for email, also a time setting for how long before it emails you again, if motion persists. Also it cans end emails depending on level of sensitivity and time frame, in other words .5 of a second of motion, 1 second of motion or 1.5 seconds of motion, with thsi it means it can tell teh difference between a fast moving car and someone walking by and with the ability of motion sensitivity and masks it works quite well, you do not get too many false alarms, however the safest way is to wire hardware sensors and have it email by hardware detection and length of connection.

     

    Its also easier to use the control room, that way it sends all motion events to you or when ever or whatever area you want, you dont have to record them and then no repetitive emails.

     

    As for direct contact to Manufactorer, I have suggested a lot of the features that came out in version 6, I send them a wish list every 3 months which can be painfull with the language barrier (contains a lot of diagrams), however I am not vain enough to think that my influence has made these changes, I think everybody wants the same features, I had already suggested time lines and the other features you recommended the FPS adjustment is harder because Geo only uses one card.

     

    I guess I never liked geo. I think it was the GUI, or maybe I just saw it when the were getting thier stuff together

     

    I have told them to change it and make it more modern butthey claim that "This is our identity in the market" "Everyone knows Geo's GUI"

    Ther are several meanings,

     

    A hardware watchdog is a cable running to the reset switch of the computer if the card overheats or locks up.

     

    A software watch dog makes sure that the software process is still running and that windows has not crashed and if it has it TRY's to reboot the system.

     

    I used to use my own process monitor software watchdog called "fire daemon" but that was back with Windows 98, nowadyas things are pretty stable and I have no need to run it with XP.

     

    Once again though more proof that if you know how to set a PC system you can avoid the downtime, most people dont think of these things.

    I havent loked at the link yet, howver the Magic Radar card comes froma company called Chance-I in Korea, the card is awesome and even has a backplane and 485 converter from memory, it does the frames it states and I think the more advanced version had a overlay built in from memory, I have about four samples in my wharehouse, I can let you have them at below what we paid for them to get rid of them.

     

    Overall it wasnt bad but the software is very under developed and not a s good as most, however the card seems pretty impressive.
