  1. Its very very touchy...very touchy, were talking literally just touching the set screw brought mine into focus
  2. Flashed with the raptor firmware....confirmed 3MP
  3. Perhaps you can take the pictues I cant. Ive been so busy, with work and life I dont even know when I can mount this thing
  4. It allows local recoding to the card, This was the swann firmware, I dont know size limits or anything. I havnt got a chance to do any more testing.
  5. Im in arizona and the heat kills things here. Ii have a direct sun exposed camera. in my opinion I think any camera, is going to suffer the same issues in extreme enviroments, its just a matterr of is it sooner vs latter?
  6. Im going to make some adjustments tonight. Remember I was holding this with my HAND, tonight ill set it on a box and do an image flip. Ill try to test the full size bullet it as well. Ill take a couple shots of the dome zoomed in and then soomed out. Like I said it will be a few days before I get to do day shots. Sorry guys.
  7. I agree with this statement, but for what I needed when I needed for a consumer based product I think the bang for the buck and ease of implimentation it works out. Sure It may not be the best, but knowing if I have an issue, i have some support behind it, plus it makes the wife happy and happy wife happy life!
  8. I love it it may not be the best but its a solid product and I've had no issues with support in fact I am returning my port because I bought the 16 port
  9. I will do that and take some more night shots and more pics of the camera interface. It might be the weekend before I get day shots but I'm pretty stoked about these domes. It makes me want to buy exaqvision or bi and build a box instead
  10. Ok so here is some info from the dome and a few free handed night shots. More shots to come. Picture was taken at 100% pure defaults @ 2.1MP zoomed all the way out. This is as wide as the camera gets. I focused it the best I could, Ill have to do some more tweaking in the day light. I turned on WDR was very noisy, then turned it off, I turned on smart IR didn't see any difference. Turned it off I didn't mess with a whole bunch of settings, cause I just didn't have the time. It looks like the SD card slot can be used on the camera, I doubt it translates to the Swann NVR software. Any way there will be more to come, Im pretty happy with how these things look, so I will probably proceed replacing all the mini bullets out side with these. Firmware: Default settings: Night shot in pretty much pure darkness, its pretty noisy but I think this can be cleared up a lot by tweaking the camera.
  11. It came with the green. Low heat, low rpm is perfectly fine. A lot of manufacturers have moved to only making intellipower type drives and not stating the rpm. Additionally They are hardly any slower for sequential I/O. Maybe 10%; something you will never notice. They are slower when it comes to latency/IOps though, but sequential I/O is very good for 5400rpm and 5900rpm drives. Their data density is so high, they even beat 10.000rpm disks with Sequential I/O, even though they only spin half as fast the data density makes up for it. So the prefered medium to store large bulky files on, is 5400/5900rpm drive. 7200rpm+ drives are quickly becoming less useful and eventually will disappear. The new WD Green's have at least 1TB platters, so 1-platter for 1.0TB, 2 for 2TB and 3 for 3TB. The speed doesn't increase with the number of platters, but it increases as the data density increases. Thus higher-capacity platters will result in higher sequential I/O. This is why almost damn near everything has been running on 5900 rpm drives. An example of this is WD Red drives the "highly recomended" drives for NAS are identical from a physical stand point as the greens. A couple of tweaks to the firmware, and a new product line was born. Except its the SAME product!
  12. The ring is foam. What I will end up doing is making sure I don't have any finger prints on the dome. Ill connect it to 100ft cable and go in my back yard after I shut the lights off and take some videos. Like I said earlier. I like how it looks. I am worried about the amount of LEDs but maybe some one can comment on that. Ill compare it to the other varifocal bullet....maybe ill do all three. maybe maxicon or buellwinkle can give me some quick pointers that I can do as a test that arnt overly complicated.
  13. I already did that. Swanns model number is nvr16-7200
  14. Basically see my post I made above that's essentially what happens its an easy fix if support doesn't suck
  15. give me a holler about those 2 varifocal bullets if you are considering selling them, i installed 2 and am pretty happy with them. Will do. I like them kinda, I have some spots where I could use them, just not sure as I think I'm more partial to the new domes however (which yes I know have their own issues)
  16. It does have 16 poe ports. The domes are varifocal domes are 4 inch, and the varifocal bullut is huge. I dont have any of the lorex domes sorry Ill post some pictures here in a bit. In the mean time here are the two bullets http://i.imgur.com/Kk25IOf.jpg
  17. The swann is a good product, and their support is good. Im getting ready to take mine back. however, I have one of the first runs and I just updated the firmware on it twice. Im not taking it back because theres nothing wrong with it. I decided to pick up the 16 channel instead. I'm having a tough time on choosing the 16 ch vs the 8. It's price point seems a bit steep, but I guess with what you are getting it's worth it. I am debating on waiting to see if the 8 ch goes on sale like it did earlier in the year. I just hate taking stuff back again to Costco. (thank god someone has good CS; I'm not even a member) I bought the 16 because I out grew the 8, I want to toss a few cams inside, and I wanted domes out side. The two vairfocals it comes with I dont think I want and my try to sell them, Not sure on that yet. Anyway, so far here is my findings with the 16. Ill do a full review in a bit. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=36888 on page 2
  18. This thing is effing huge! lol
  19. Good news, It is a 3 axis, it has an sd slot, if you had the cables the headers are there for the audio and alarm, infact it talks about it in the manual, saying not to connect them. Review and pics shortly
  20. The swann is a good product, and their support is good. Im getting ready to take mine back. however, I have one of the first runs and I just updated the firmware on it twice. Im not taking it back because theres nothing wrong with it. I decided to pick up the 16 channel instead.
  21. Preliminary thoughts....This thing is huge. and the vari focal cameras....are gargantuan. You will not be able to use dvd spot with a dvd drive WITHOUT modifications, not sure if the firmware supports it any way. It also looks like shorted me a network cable. Ill deal with swann on that or costco concierge. Im getting all my pics together getting ready to pull the mobo, and the heatsink off the cpu, to replace the heat sink grease, and to replace the sink with a modified copper 370 sink I have, thats not noisy as hell. EDIT: Processor markings TMS320 DM8167BCYG 32C1V4W 786 Quick look up looks like a solid chip from TI, Its in their Performace line. Pretty much geared for IP DVR type applications Powered up, not as loud as the nvr8-7200 which is to be expected. When it started I had to go through the wizard but the nvr wouldnt stop beeping all channels were in alarm with no link. I connected a camera, still kept beeping, rebooted, kept beeping, did a restore defualts, No beeping.
  22. It came in along with one of the domes. I'm on my way home to tear into it
  23. In an effort to clear this up.... I ordered the sytem from Costco here http://www.costco.com/Swann-16-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-3TB-HDD-and-8-1080p-Cameras.product.100070310.html Based off of looks I believe it to be in the 7700 series family of products from hikvision located here http://www.hikvision.com/en/Products_show.asp?id=6528 More specifically maybe a 7716? The problem with that is the OEM hikvision only has 8 ports. The Costco one has 16, According to buellwinkle hikvision doest have an nvr with 16 poe ports. Swanns model number for this device is nvr16-7200. I got that directly from the swann tier II when I was talking to him while doing a firmware update to my nvr8-7200. He sent me the manual for it with the disclaimer that it might not be the shipping version.
