  1. Interesting picture... Dont do this. lol

    228023_1.jpg

    You shouldn't need a 60fps camera.

The reason you're not getting much response is that we don't know the scope of what you can do and whether you have the resources to do it 'right'. Have you got the authority to put cameras on poles or guard shacks? Have you get the budget (i.e. many thousands of dollars)? If you have those two things why not hire someone locally?

  2. Very interesting theory...

So first he install the system. Then he burglarized the same home?

And he posted this on this forum as a warning to other people?

It's been several days since his post. It could be possible that in fact HE was the burglar that actually caught himself

on video, and now he's in jail so he can't reply to us. And if you think about it, that's why he didn't post

the video because of such shame he has brought to himself and his family!

  3. Yours is a simple system... Analog... You cant make a piece of silver into a gold bar...

If you want much better image quality then analog you need an IP system.

For consumers like yourself I recommend you go to your costco and get a system from them thats IP...

This way if you have buyers remorse or are not happy for whatever reason you can return. I dont really think you should buy online unless you really know what you want.

    Heres a nice system:

    http://www.costco.com/Q-See-4-Channel-HD-Digital-NVR-with-1TB-Hard-Drive-and-4-HD-720p-IP-Cameras.product.100003211.html

Good Luck. Please dont be offended. I'm trying to save you from any disappointment from buying something online which you many not like....

  4. Interesting.

Anyone know of which VMS can support simultaneous live recording while still recording motion.

This way you have both the the video and the motion events. Set motion events to store for 9 months for example and overwrite live recordings as space needed....

Also any VMS besides Avigilon have the pixel search function so you can mask the area you want to search for video events?

That's definitely a good starting point for this discussion. I just don't trust a 5 second AD time in any scenerio though. If the camera is set to MD and 5 second AD, than a person or car has to be in the FOV for 5 seconds. What if the person just walks past

the camera and is less than 5 seconds? I realize someone might not want or need to record someone just walking past, but I think it should be recorded. I do like the long pre record so you don't just get someone popping up in the middle of the screen and ask how did he get there? And I agree with you that a high traffic area should get constant recording. It makes a nicer playback rather than bits and pieces all day long.

  5. Good ques., i thought about this to, not sure.

What a deal though / and what a business selling things below cost....

To bad no IP cams for $0.99 free ship

anyone here want to follow this business model? sell cheap

or even charity cameras for cctvforum member

    charity

    $0.99 tester auction

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/221254618334

    $0.09 crimper auction

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/360698302614

If you shop around you can sometimes get great deals on ebay...

Can't imagine you'll find a cheaper deal than that. How do they make money shipping that all the way from China especially after PayPal and eBay take their fees?

  6. Be very careful on law...

If one or two people talk and they don't know you capture record sound you may be breaking law... If and when they find out (EVEN IF THEY DID NOTHING WRONG)...

    SURPRISE! - "YOU'VE GOT LAWSUIT"

    CHECK WITH LAWYER... VERY IMPORTANT...

    (This is not legal advice.)

Axis may be the best camera made and I like Mobotics too. Not sure of your applications but make sure you are okay with the audio. Even if it is your home, you can violate someone's 4th Ammendment rights. The world has gone crazy. lol. But I would check.

  7. Difference in $400 illuminator Raytec vs Dahua ipc coverage?

Any pics? Do they charge $400 because they can or is it any better at illuminating?

Thats a steep price for illumination.... I did not think leds were so expensive.... Must have nice profit margins.

The best use of a bricked HFW2100 honestly is as an IR illuminator. They have a pretty bright LED illuminator and if I bricked one, that's what I would do. And it's setup to light up a night independent of camera functionality and small enough. Check the price of a PoE IR illuminator from Raytec for $400, makes this a bargain. When life deals you lemons, make lemonade.

  8. I bought some one piece crimps on ebay...

    Worked fine for me to.

I like standard things, specialty equipment which have secret formats usually costs more to fix when something goes wrong...

There is a reason large departments don't have many different models of different equipment.

Standards makes easier to be knowledgeable, easier to fix, easier to support.

Iam aware of camera counts in installs going to 100+. 3-4 models of cameras only, less complexity makes simple and reliable installs.

Out of probably 100 crimps I had maybe less then five fail, those were quick to redo.

I like those platinum rj45's but then you need their crimping tool, makes sense if you do this for a living but a cheap crimper from eBay and cheap RJ45 from Monoprice has worked well for me. Get a cable tester to make sure it's done right. You can get a tester and crimper combo for pretty cheap, I think I paid $10. Monoprice has it for about that price.

  9. Thanks Buellwinkle;

Im very happy there are people like you who give time to answer question and are straightforward and seem honest.

I thank you for your efforts.

Can you pls post a link?

    Thanks.

The problem is buying from an authorized U.S. oem (no Dahua distributors in the U.S. yet). So that increases the prices dramatically vs. buying Dahua from China where it's almost seized to exist as Dahua actively stops resellers from selling out of their region. The best buy is still Costco.com, $299 for 2. Wrightwoodsurveillance.com has it for more, but you can buy one at a time and has a U.S. warranty. The problem in the past for buying from China is getting support. Imagine getting your camera and something is wrong with it, you may pay more for shipping it back than it's worth.

Why do you want that Dahua bullet, do you already have a Dahua NVR? If you are not married to Dahua, the very similar looking Hikvision at 3MP for $169 from a U.S. distributor is the best deal out there. Sharper, better image quality, better firmware, less quirky than Dahua by far.

  10. Hows their support? Is it a small retail store? Mop & Pop operation? Online only?

I want to know as much as possible if you dont mind. Some sellers will only support you if you buy enough volume to make things worth it for them.... You buy a lot?

Do they have a thorough product knowledge? Learn as they go? Or make things up as they go along (SOME BIG COMPANIES DO THIS. )

    http://gogss.com/index.php

They are 15 minutes from my house and I buy all of my dahua products from them.

  11. What the application of the DVR?

    How many FPS you need?

Who will be reviewing video? (EVERYONE, YOU, TRUSTED USERS?)

Need more info to make suggestions I think. Dont know application so its like recommending car when you dont know if you need a truck to haul stuff in or a bus to haul people in?

    Understand my point?

After doing some research, the 16 Channel Elite Mini Economy Series H.264 Realtime Security DVR from Security Camera King appears to have all the features we use in our DVR. It also has pretty good reviews on the site. Any feedback on this would be great.

  12. Got stung on one came buying from china....

Be very careful... You can have a flaw like soft image on one camera or corrupted firmware and then money already in pocket... little support...

on aliexpress for say 1 camera, I don't want too cheap, but yet don't want to pay over the top

I notice here almost everyone has bought something on this site, but never mention their experience ? ? its not as if your promoting it if you just bought something on it. .

would it not be better if people shared experience so that hopefully nobody will get stung

  13. Probably not necessary to double up pairs unless you have large current draw (IR, PTZ, etc.)

If you do double up you can use a color code, no standard that Iam aware of but you can use one that makes sense to you.

    EXAMPLE:

    ORANGE -POS

    GREEN - NEG

    BLUE - VIDEO

    BROWN - PTZ RS CONNECTION

Before I begin, please pardon my complete ignorance when it comes to surveillance systems. The only cameras I've ever used were "wirelessly" connected to the home network.

I'm in the process of building a new home and have had wires run to several locations to install hardwired cameras with a DVR. The camera system I bought was from Costco and was a Swann system with 8 cameras (4 dome, 4 bullet). It appears that all cameras have a coax connector for video and also have a connector for DC power. They all also, much to my surprise, have PTZ wires as well. Some also have a yellow video cable as well as the coax cable (presumably for an alternative video option).

My builder ran two wires to each camera location - a coax and a Cat5e. While I'm confident that the Cat5e can be used to run DC power, my question is - do I need to use 2 or 4 wires for the DC, and since the Cat5e appears to have 8 wires - even if I use 4, I should still have 4 left over. Can I then use that to facilitate the PTZ functions?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.
