    Corrupt video Logs?

If you stop Geo and do run the "Database Repair Utility" it will fix that problem. That is under the main geo install folder.

    Which CODEC for the police?

Murders? Wow, I was only talking about Theft and vandalism and B&E's but I imagine the procedures in a murder case are much more strict. I also asked what they use to view/edit/enhance the video and they wouldn't tell me a thing. Interesting.

    Which CODEC for the police?

I have been involved in about 10 police cases and they haven't taken the DVR yet, usually they just take the CD/DVD of the incident and I have even had Police take the whole back up folder on a USB drive. If you do a complete back using the back up tools, they run the ezviewlog500.exe file, and the codecs will automatically install.
  5. Works great with the Geovision cards and the Gview V2 software.

    set resulotion per camera

Yes, you choose the video source of 640x480 or 640x480 de-interlaced, then go into system configure and choose camera 1, then click the arrow to the right of recording quality, set 1,2,3 to 320 and 4 to 640. Voila.
  7. I think Rory is right, 8.11 only supports the IP servers, but the next version will support IP cams.
  8. Thanks for the advice Ak357. Do you have any sample clips of a mega pixel camera we could check out? They sound awesome. How much does an average cam cost?
  9. I haven't used both systems, but when compared on paper the Avermedia seems to win. the 1280X1024 resolution would be strictly for IP cameras, there are no "standard" analog CCTV cams that cam transmit close to that resolution. This means that aver is only accepting the data from the megapixel camera and that resolution is dependant on the camera. No matter, it seems IP cams are the wave of the future, I hope Geo catches up. I haven't even tried an IP cam yet because geo doesn't support it. If you purchase the avermedia card, please post the results. I checked out their NV5000 demo site and it was very slow. didn't find the remote IE client to be as good as geo's, at least from this site. NV7000 demo clips anyone? Can someone show us the quality of this card.
  10. Yes, the Gv-2008 ony has mpeg2/4 H/w compression. The geo H.264 is software compression, which can be used with these boards but defeats the purpose.
  11. I haven't seen the Avermedia H.264 H/W compression card yet, but would like to. Also, they Avermedia H7000 can't do D1 in Realtime, while the gv2008 can (the Avermedia can do 120fps on 16 channles at D1, GV2008 can do 480).

    Can't find key pro

The version you installed doesn't support the card you are using. Look on your card for a hardware version number and then you can download the latest software that supports that version of card. A bit of a plow by Geo to make customers buy new cards.
  13. Nice answer! The best I've seen so far are the Gv2008 cards but they take a lot of space up for recordings.

any opinions on GeoVision vs Aventura?

Never had access to Aventura but have seen there products on the net a lot. I have used geo extensively and in terms of features and options, it can't be beat. So the only reason I would favor Aventura is if the picture quality was much better.
  15. Great Thread! I recentley hired my first installer and have had salesman that worked for us part time in the past. Always paid %10 of the gross for the sales where they did the quote and landed the deal. A little less if I did the quote for them and helped close the sale. Not to steal the thread or anything, but do other owners here pay "finders fees" to people who give you leads that turn into sales? I do this with a few other business owners and it seems effective.

    Geo for Phone

I have the HTC400 (new here in canada). Its a PDA style phone and the new Gview V2 is excellent for both live and playback. It works on any windows mobile 5.0 phone with a touch screen.
  17. I am doing a decent sized Card Access/CCTV install and was wondering if anyone has tested out the GV-Wiegand Capture unit? How hard was it to setup and what information did you get on the display? I'd like to integrate the two but have never tried it. Any advice is appreciated.
  18. We have been using geo for quite some time, i was just wondering what offers the very best in video quality, that all. always looking for the best.
  19. What card or brand of card produces the absolute best quality of recorded video? I am in search of the clearest possible recorded video and am often dissappointed by different cards or brands. If anyone has a good sample of extremely high quality video, please post it.

    GV2008 vs. GV1480

I am getting a some requests for higher quality video with better fram rates. the systems will record in 720X480. How much better will the quality be on the 2008 be versus the 1480. I have installed many 800's and 1120's, and am just wanting to see or hear about the true difference between the hardware cards and software. At about $1k for a 2008, that's an expensive 8 camera card to "test".

    GV2008 vs. GV1480

I thought they would too but I have made a call to them directly and started did the online support thing and they refused to give me this info. I just wish it was at least made readily available to at least installers/dealers.

    GV2008 vs. GV1480

Thanks a lot. That info is very much appreciated. Looking at those results, if we are recording in 640X480 the best value will be the 1240 card (same frame rates as 1480, less cpu usage). It is really a shame Geo tries to hide this info from their customers. It's kind of wierd that the 1120/1240/1480 are so structrually similar. My supplier told me the record in D1 at the same frame rates, but I'm not sure i believe him.

    GV2008 vs. GV1480

I only ever use motion recording so it's not really a problem. That new card sounds awesome, can't wait to see that. I hope it doesn't cost too much..... which it will. Do you have a copy of that brochure? How about those frame rates in NTSC?

    GV2008 vs. GV1480

EXCELLENT replies, thank you very much Tpolus! I looked carefully at the clips you sent and you are bang on. So..... more questions. 1) Have you tried the GV2008 with software compression? Do you still get the same frame rates and quality? If not how much worse is it? 2) Have you done direct comparisson between 800's and 1480's in terms of D1 frame rates? I have been told soooo many different things by suppliers, but the goal is max quality in D1. I guess when you demostrated that they require such HUGE hard Drive spaces, for customers who need weeks or months of recordings, these cards are not ideal without 10's of TB's of storage! Cheers.

    GV2008 vs. GV1480

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. I am aware of all the "sepcification" differences. Thanks for the clips tpolus. I wanted to hear from people with real world experience installing both of them. I have installed 800,1120 and 1240's and have been quite happy but like everyone, i am on a quest for the best recording quality possible. Perhaps after years of installing GV800 cards I have become used to the cards and their quality so it doesn't impress me too much. tpolus, were you blown away with the 2008 or would you say it was only marginally better then say an 800 or 1480? Edit Tpolus,. I just watched all of the demo clips you provided, thanks a lot, and there is definitley a difference in color, frame rate and clarity. What resolutions and codecs were they both recorded in (720X480 or 720X480 interlaced). I have noticed on the Gv800's the the still capture of a non moving event is far superior in 720X480 then 720X480 interlaced but not as good for a lot of motion and trying to get the face of a moving person. Do you install many 2008's? Do you find it requires much bigger HDD's compared to the 800?
