    GV-800 and Video Lost Messages

rory, can you elaborate on this? all cards i have bought from an online vendor, not fake cards, come with the dongles. what i have noticed is that i have an option to get the DVI connectors that have cameras 1-16 on the same dvi dongle. the systems i had in the past came with 1-8 on the black vga connector and then 9-16 on the blue vga connector. thanks.

Cant find Keypro, Card setup Fail, Drivers not found!

if you have the yellow exclamation point, then you are 100% in need of drivers. do you have the CD that came with the card? you need to pop that in and install the drivers. also, do that rory said and try it in another machine, that is a basic troubleshooting step. good luck and post back.

    MultiCam Remote Viewer....help

i really like this program. it allows me to quickly click the favorite button and pick from a list of 5 DVRs that i want to watch. the only problem is, some of my newer DVRs have the new software and i cant figure out how to activate TCP/IP on the new systems. any help? i cant imagine that they got rid of this feature with the 8.3 software, but at the same time, the hot key isn't the same and i cant figure out how to manually turn it on. thanks

    help with new geovision card

i have about 15 of the older geovision cards. i have been buying geovision systems starting 3 years ago. i think 8.0 was the software back then. also, my cards had the vga dongles with 1-8 and 9-16. the newer cards i have have dvi out and have all 16 video cams on 1 dongle and the 16 audio on another dongle. here is my problem... i got some custom software from Rory, the guy that runs these forums. the remote software ran perfect with the older style cards. i am not sure if this is an 8.0 to 8.3 software upgrade or if it is a problem with vga to dvi dvr card. either way, the remote program that rory wrote doesnt work with the latest DVR cards. i NEED those remote programs to work. one of them was a custom HTML file that had the camera information inside the html file and when i double clicked it, it just opened an IE window and displayed my cameras. the other program was called live scan and it scanned all of my camera views on a monitor with the settings i added in. i hope someone on there has used either of those 2 programs and can give me some insight on why i am getting a blue screen with these new dvr cards. from what i understand, rory doesn't frequent the forums that much any longer, but rory, if you are out there and could shed some light on this, i would appreciate it.

    help with new geovision card

update- i was able to swap the newer DVR with an older DVR running the 8.2 software. the html file works with 8.2 but not 8.3. luckily for me, the 8.3 DVR is in a location where i dont need to view remotely. i hope the 8.3 issues are resolved.

locking down windows taskbar etc in 8.3

Yeah but like that, one can still just click the CTL-ALT-DEL key or click the windows key to gain access to Windows. The Geo server software itself only prevents minimizing or exiting the Geovision software. very true. i guess it just depends where the DVR is and how advanced the person viewing the DVR is with computer shortcuts. i know for me, with having 15 DVRs scattered within company offices, not one person that sits at the machine all day has a clue what ctrl, alt, del does. also, some of the side jobs that i am at, the DVR is in a locked box/office and i use the video out on the DVR card to display the video on a tv/lcd/security monitor. that usually does the trick. but yes, you are right, the method i posted isn't a 100% fix for his problem/question.

    help with new geovision card

No, apparently no older software will work with the new cards, only 8.3xx will work with the 8.3 cards. But ive never tried it myself, im just going by what others have said on this forum so far. crap, well right now i guess i need to 1. try installing the old software on the pc with the new card, unless i find a post where someone confirms that it wont work. 2. if 1 doesnt work then i need to move some DVRs around. i can take the 8.3 dvr and move it to a location that i dont need to connect to it via the web file. then i can take that DVR and move it to this location where i have a few people that connect to view the cameras via the html file. when you say the quality is bad with 8.3, how bad is bad? i mean, goes it just look like garbage? thanks

    help with new geovision card

Rory, in those internet explorer files i am using, the web page method, you say that all i need to do is add this line to the code? LiveX.SetGUIMod 3, 0, 0 do i add that anywhere or does it have to be in a specific location? also, i have the CD with older software on there, can i just downgrade and get rid of 8.3 altogether? i didnt have any problems with 8.0, i just went with 8.3 because that is what was on the CD when i got the new card. at this point, i need to get the web page method working. i dont care if i need to roll back the dvr card software or go with your fix, but i need to get this resolved ASAP. thanks for any input, hopefully i hear from you soon.

Using two different GV systems on one PC?

why would you want to do this? i assume you need more than 16 cameras, that is the only thing i can think of. geovision now has a 32 cam system, but maybe not available when you made this thread.

locking down windows taskbar etc in 8.3

so you only want to run geovision on the pc? what i do is create the admin user and then a normal user. for the normal user, i set it so thet cant minimize or stop recording. all this is done IN geovision. i got a step further with the users. sometimes, depending on the location, the owner doesnt want the user to see where the hidden cameras are. so in situations like that, i will create a "user" account and give them access to view cameras 1,2,3,5.... in this case, camera 4 is a hidden camera that "user" isnt able to see. when they try to minimize, it tells them the featuere is not available to them. same thing with stopping the cameras from recording, changing web options, etc... unless i mis understood your question, you dont want the user having access to the start menu or the desktop, correct?

    help with new geovision card

well, if i grab an old software CD with the new card, will it take the 8.0 or 8.2 software? i NEED that web page workaround to work. i am not able to dig into the details right now, but later on today, i am going to re read your post and see if i can figure something out. thanks and it is good to see that you are still around.
  14. i have a user that needs to access all of our DVRs from his PC when he travels. the problem is, remote viewer wont connect with the nwe DVR systems and it wont install on windows 7. i told him to use the web browser, but that is not an option, too much clicking around. multiview works good, but it doesnt save DVRs in the drop down list. i always have to tell him to click edit, type the address of the next DVR he wants to view, but again, too many steps, especially for someone who cant remember the DVR addresses. i want to go to geovision and ask them why they put a drop down arrow if they dont allow us to save DVR addresses in the list. there are 6 systems 4 use the 8.2 software 2 use the 8.3 software. any recommendations are appreciated. thanks

    geovision V8.3 No TCP Server

strange. what kind of PC were you checking it on? Remote View opens and loads camera views about 5x times faster than any remote view option that geovision offers. it was a cut and dry program. especially saving DVRs to your favorite list. i still use that program to this day. very dis appointed that geovision doesn't do a good job documenting how to add multiple DVRs to multiview.

    windows 7...other options for multiview?

i cant get multiple DVRs to stay in that list. that is the problem i am having.

GV-800 video image does not move!!

off hand, nothing else points to trying an external card. it is easy for me to get my hands on a spare video card for testing, so this wouldn't be an issue for me, however, not everyone has spare parts. i have installed geovision on PCs with on board video and with dedicated cards, i have never seen an issue. how much ram does your PC have?
  19. i have the latest software. TCP/IP is a protocol that seems to be built into the software, but i am not sure how to enable it. with the older cards and sotware, you press w for web t for tcp/ip it simply wont work in the new software. thanks.
  20. i just purchased the latest 16 channel DVR card. i dont have the number off hand, it is at a remote site, but i am no longer seeing the option for TCP/IP in the new software like i see in the old software. what changed? i view all my DVRs with older software using MultiCam Remote View, but i cant get into ANY new system, since i dont see how to enable the TCP/IP option. i know there is a way to do it or else they wouldnt give me the software with the new card. thanks.
  21. because no dynamic-DNS service, free or not, is 100%effective. i've had ISPs that force IP changes every 1-2 hours... when DDNS updates can take up to an hour to propagate, DDNS becomes nearly useless. i have never had any issues with www.dyndns.com. their free service is great and the windows client program works perfect. It's not an issue with DynDNS or any other dynamic-DNS service *specifically*... it's a potential issue with the whole domain name system and the fact that changes can take time to propagate throughout the DNS directories around the 'net. A static IP is still the BEST idea for ANY type of server where you need ready remote access, be it a DVR, a webserver, mailserver, etc. Dynamic DNS *as a concept* is still just a workaround. i agree. at work, i make sure to get nothing but static. you just need it. i am simply saying, dyndns is a good solution if you cant get static. not everyone that gets a DVR installed can get static or wants ot be on the phone trying to change over to a static account. and as i stated in my earlier post, for the amount of time i have been using dyndns.com and the windows client, i have NEVER had an issue when an ip address changes. i think we are all on the same page here...

  23. exactly! use a free dyndns service. i like www.dyndns.com not everyone can get static IPs and why pay a little extra when you can get it done with a free service? i always open a browser and use mydyndnsname.gotdns.com:81 and it loads right to the DVR i want to connect to. this is when i am on a PC that isnt mine. for my laptop that i use for troubleshooting, i like having the remote view program installed.
  24. i upgraded a few PCs on the network to IE8 and the activex to download the multiview interface wont pop up. i have tried tweaking the activex settings, but almost everything i do still doesn't prompt for the active x download. can anyone guide me in the right direction? thanks.
