  1. shut down Multicam and Viewlog server then run the db utility. It will take a while to scan for files. Once its done, you should see the 'missing' files show up in viewlog, they should be deleted the next time the software 'recycles', usually a couple of hours, depends on activity.

by default, reserve never-recycle flag is checked and rebuild all information is not checked.

i do see my default path is accurate, i won't mess with that.

it took about 5 seconds to run (recording to a small drive) and said it was complete. i didnt see any missing files show up.

    thanks.

  2. If these files are not set to 'never recycle' then its probably database corruption, I've seen this a few times, seems to coincide with improper shutdown(power outage, etc). Do these files appear in ViewLog?

You can either manually delete them, or run database repair utility to make the DVR 'aware' of the files and they should be recycled eventually

they do not pop up in the view log. i don't want to manually delete, i'd rather run the utility and hopefully that cleans up the folders/files.

the only thing i need to do is run the db utility? when should i see the file delete? should i check back in 24 hours?

    thanks.

  3. i have a handful of systems (all different versions) and they all seem to keep some old folders with 1 or 2 video files inside. for example, it has no problem storing footage, but if i open the folder where files are recorded to, i can go back to june of 2013 and see a few files still hanging around.

    thanks

  4. Synology has some great units that work well via iSCSI. Just put a good nic card in your DVR and you should be good to go.

    http://www.synology.com/en-us

why is iscsi needed? a geovision pc can't see a mapped drive?

Not sure if it can or can not. I like iSCSI and have found it it to be easy to setup and works reliably.

understandable and nothing wrong with that. i wouldn't bother with iscsi unless it was needed or there was a benefit to using it.

  5. i agree with mgb

do you need help with setting up the geovision system for remote viewing capabilities?

the ipad/ios app requires specific ports to be opened in order to work. also, some changes need to be made to the local geovision server.

i can tell you what that is, but i will wait to hear back to see if that is what you are looking for.

  6. Thnaks Guys, I have not used Geo in an age, last time i did the CMS was just a motion or alarm activated montioring station, are you saying that it now can be recorded directly, to it, would the viewlog file see this as standard?

I might just open the box's and put in 4 drives, just means reloading the OS and I am not even sure the bios will se the 4tb drives, but certainly seems cheaper and easier with less chance of corruption - just hate opening 3- 4yr old machines - something always goes awry.

I assuming there is no way to "overnight backup" these devices (just too much data I assume) ie they would have to be offline to back up for far too long.

why would you need to re-install geovision? add/upgrade the drives that are used for video storage, leave the main drive with geovision as is.

is the system 64 bit? you will have issues with those drive sizes with a 32 bit OS.

edit- the 32/64 bit is only an issue if you are using windows xp OS. what OS does the geovision pc run on?

  7. Bandwidth and disk requirements can vary greatly...you could set up perfmon on the DVRs to determine the avg/peak disk bandwidth over the course of a day(s). But realistically I don't think 1GB ethernet will have any problem with 96 analog cams. If you figure real throughput of ~900mbps on Gig-E, that gives you ~9mbps per cam which is a pretty high bitrate for compressed d4 video. But some kind of load-balancing/failover could help with reliability.

GV System can only record to NAS via iSCSI, which makes the network storage appear as a local-attached disk. Just be sure to create separate iSCSI LUNs on the NAS for each DVR- with NTFS filesystem there can only be 1 read/write connection per LUN or you will experience corruption.

Also the only way I can think of to fall back on the local storage in the DVRs would be using Center V2 as suggested by varascope. The DVRs would continue recording to their local storage in the event the network connection is lost. But on the other hand a solid network and buisness-grade NAS should have little to no downtime anyways

why can it only record to NAS via iscsi?

you can't map a drive to a \\nas-share? mapping a drive would allow you create a drive letter for the drive (e:, g:, etc....) Geovision wouldn't see that?

  8. i am looking for a NLOS (non line of sight) transmitter/receiver setup that will send analog video from a field unit to home base where the video system is recording the rest of the cameras on the property that are physically wired in. the field unit is approximately 1200 ft away from home base (that is probably the furthest it would ever be.

90% of the time the field unit will be in direct LOS, but i would like to set it up as a NLOS system, if one exists, just in case the 90 changes to 80%, 75%, etc...

what is the best frequency for this?

    5.8?

    900?

i am hoping someone has experience with wifi, on here.

    Thanks.

  9. StarTech.com 2 port VGA Splitter- USB Powered

    Mfg. Part: ST122LE | CDW Part: 1364745 | UNSPSC: 43211604

    StarTech.com

thanks, i think i am going to give this a shot.

    do you notice any ghosting?

edit- i see that you said there is no video loss, i am not sure if ghosting falls under that category.

    thanks.

  10. We often do projectors and tvs so we use a usb video splitter that device uses the power from the usb port to support the two monitors you can place the 2nd monitor up to 200 feet away with no video loss on either monitor. cost is around 40.00 US

    link?

  11. if anyone happens to read this topic and has also read my other question regarding winxp 32 bit to 64 bit, they are two different jobs, not related...

i am looking to build a brand new system, anything i need to watch out for?

    the facts

    -win7 64 bit OS

    -4 GB Ram, minimum

    -gv 1480 b

can i get away with on board video card for the monitor?

another possibility might be to have a dual video card (dedicated RAM) and give the client two monitors...mirroring the display, not extended desktop.

does anyone know if this will cause issues or does the gv card not care that it is being sent to two monitors? i imagine that the gv card doesnt care because the video card will be doing all of the work.

they would only need the active monitor on the PC when they want to review something, they dont have a problem with unplugging the VGA cable going to the office and temporarily plugging in the VGA in the storage room to view the playback. there would be some manual work, but they are ok with that (they already have two monitors, 1 can be left in the storage room where the DVR lives and the other will be the full time monitor in their office.

this is the card i am looking at: gv 1480 b

    http://www.worldeyecam.com/store/geovision-gv-1480-16-channel-dvi-combo-digital-video-recording-dvr-surveillance-card-with-version-v8.3-complete-webcam-software-suite-included.html

these are the two things that i have to keep in mind

    Note:

    1. GV-1480B does not support the TV-Out function.

    2. GV-1480B is currently not compatible with VIA series and ATI series chipset motherboards.

  12. you cant run the geovision software w/o the card (unless something changed in the last few years, that is the last time i bought a new card).

This is incorrect. Geovision NVR software will happily run without a DVR card (since it's designed to and has done for the past 8+ years).

my mistake, i didnt realize there was NVR software, as well. i thought it was all bundled under the regular, analog card/software.

thanks for clearing that up, never good to give wrong info.

  13. Since the cameras have built-in web server and can be accessed online by itself, do I actually need a geovision card?

Or is a card needed with the compression/recording/playback process? Instead of the compression happening at the camera, it happens at the card?

On a similar note, are NVRs not needed if I can just wire my IP cameras to a network attached storage for recording? I guess one advantage of the GV card and NVR is that it ties in all the cameras together and lets you see on one screen, rather than accessing them separately? But with a CMS software you can add them all together too right?

    Sorry its alot of questions...

it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

you cant run the geovision software w/o the card (unless something changed in the last few years, that is the last time i bought a new card).

correct, the NVR is not needed if you are going to save to a NAS or some other network storage, but not all IP cams are compatible with NAS units and all CMS software, as long as you research that ahead of time you should be ok.

  14. HI guys

I try access my webcam server via IE and it pops out the ID and PassWord window. i tried the code that i've entered in the remote authentication menu but is keeps blocked me "access denied invalid password"! I also tried to create a supervisor code with all the privillages and i also fails!Anyone that is familiar with the issue???Is there a setting i should fix?

create a user under, system configure, password setup, local account edit.

that is where i create all my users that login at other sites (via IE and multiview/client programs).

    that should solve your problem.
