  1.

i have read a little bit about avigilon, but i don't know much about it. can i trial their software w/o any limitations? what about cost?

    http://avigilon.com/support-and-downloads/for-software/software-updates-and-downloads/

so far, not a fan of aviglion at all. picture quality doesn't look good, when i check the settings, quality is set to 1080p and quality was on 1 (best). doesn't look as good as it did in hikvision NVR or the browser.

  2. where can i purchase exacqvision w/o needing to deal with a rep? i am not an integrator, so i'd like to avoid purchasing from a company that only deals with integrators. i am building a PC (family business) and i want to run exacq on it (use it at work and i am familiar with it). i was going to use the hikvision NVR, but after some more testing, i am not a huge fan of it.

i am in the process of running cable and mounting cameras, might be another month or so before i have it all done (only working it on the weekends).

these are the cameras i will be using, hikvision 2CD2132-I and they are on the exacq compatibility list. i have 11 cameras, for the initial build, but when the system is complete, i will have 14.

edit- based on pricing of purchasing individual licenses and paying to build my own server, it might be cheaper if i buy a server with exacq on it. just looking to see if there are online stores where i can buy this vs dealing with an integrator.

I would recommend find a dealer that will just sell you the parts/licenses you are looking for. This way you have someone to answer questions when you have issues.

Also have you looked at Avigilon? It works great with Hik cameras and has no recurring costs unlike Exacq.

  4. "Multistreaming Support for IP Cameras

The new Multistreaming feature of exacqVision 5 allows the ability to set multiple, independent video streams from the IP camera. Each stream can be set at different frame rates, resolution and quality level, ideal if you require remote viewing over a limited-bandwidth connection, but want to retain the highest resolution for recording and local viewing. Up to four streams per camera can be selected, depending on the IP camera model. In addition, up to eight ‘Region of Interest’ streams can be setup on select Arecont Vision cameras, allowing for true cropping of individual, independent streams, and a full realization of the benefits of multi-megapixel cameras.

With exacqVision Multistreaming, all streams can be recorded, viewed live, saved to views, exported, and available in search and playback. All streams can be individually configured for recording schedules, storage rules and more. No additional licensing is required; the standard exacqVision camera license enables up to four video streams, and up to eight Region of Interest streams are available on Arecont Vision cameras. Supported IP cameras for multistreaming in Version 5 include Axis, Arecont Vision, Panasonic and ACTi, with more coming. Over 240 IP camera models are supported in multistreaming in this release, with more coming. Multistreaming is supported in exacqVision Pro, Enterprise, and Edge"

do you know how to configure it?

edit- i think i figured it out...testing it now and i will report back.

edit2- i was able to figure it out after some clicking on the camera setup page. if the camera supports multi-streaming, you can add a second view, select your resolution and other options, along with recording, or no recording, in my case and apply the settings. it does exactly what i was looking for. obviously on the client/remote client you will have to make sure you select the correct view/camera, but other than that, it works. there are a few minor things i think can be improved, but this is a big improvement. thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  5. Exacq can do multiple streams from the cameras. This way you can set up local LAN video at HD res and stream remote will get the low res stream.

that is exactly what i want to do, but i can't seem to figure it out. how do i set this up? i want the local/LAN exacq box to display 1080p and record at the best setting and i want the remote user, which will use the client, to connect and get a reduced resolution.

    thanks.

  6. The web client might be a decent choice, it does do transcoding on the streams for better frame rates.

i have users who launch the client and everything is set for them. the web client needs more user interaction.

they need to add a resolution limit or force resolution group for certain users, that would be great. if not that, then give me the ability to add a secondary stream to exacq. the secondary stream could be a lower quality resolution. that way, my main site records in full HD (or whatever is set by the admin) and the remote user on an air card or slow connection can still view the camera(s), but using a secondary feed, which would be set/hard coded via the camera itself.

  7. I'm a PC nut, I've built them, blown them up, have had up to 11 of them running at once in the house back in the day...email servers, dedicated NAS (on BSD), dedicated FTP server, dedicated router, dedicated media-DVR-PC, security-camera-PC, even an Atari 800 was semi-connected to the network (no...ya can't play multi-PC Asteroids, but on-screen 4-player Asteroids...even the kids thought it was fun.

Now down to...um...4 PC's...not including the RasPi's, NAS's, tablets, smartphones, etc.

But figure an i7 for a sweet $1000+ PC, or simply get a Hikvision 16 channel NVR for $380 with 8 POE built in and put in one or two 4TB drives.

The PC's CPU is made to be a jack of all trades, but NVR-duties is very focused. As such, the NVR hardware can be a whole lot cheaper and still cover all your cameras in 3MP resolution.

    * 11 cams

    * 3 MP

    * 15 fps

    * H.264 codec

    * Video quality on medium setting

    * That's about 45-55 Mbps bandwidth (depending on the calculator used)

    * High quality setting would set you to around 65-85 Mbps

    * The Hikvision NVR (say the DS-7616NI-E2/8P) will handle a good 100 Mbps

For hard drive capacity, two 4TB drives will get you about 6 days of 24/7 recording. If you go with motion-only recording that extends that to perhaps 1-2 months depending on how much motion there is.

It's very rare that a business I work with does anything but motion-recording.

Or go with the $500 DS-7716NI-E4/16P with 16 POE ports and fit in four 4TB drives for 12 days of 24/7 recording or multi-months of motion recording...with 11 high-def 3MP cams.

For me, it makes performance and economic sense to simply get a dedicated DVR for the size system you're looking at.

i'd like to use a dedicated PC. while i don't plan on using the PC for anything other than the NVR software, i like being able to remote into the PC to pull footage off of the video storage drive(s) and save it to the c drive so it doesn't get overwritten until i have a chance to review it or save it for later w/o having to burn it to cd/dvd. also, it is nice having a PC on site to get drivers/firmware/etc. thank you for taking the time to type out your suggestions, but i am looking for answers for a dedicated PC.

    thanks again.

  8. i am getting ready to upgrade a business that is using an analog system and replace with IP cameras. the current system is geovision running on xp. the computer hardware is not strong enough to act as the NVR, which is why i will be buying or building a new PC.

    here are the facts

    - initially there will be 11 IP cameras, but i want to make sure i have the hardware to easily handle 16 cameras.

    - i will be using 3MP 1080p hikvision cameras, i am not worried about storage, i can add drives to the PC or possibly record to a NAS device (in the future)

    - cameras will be powered by a PoE switch. cameras are 10/100, but the switch is gigabit, which will help to send the camera feeds to the NVR (PC) for viewing and recording.

i want to go with an intel i7 CPU and at least 8GB of RAM, but not sure on what type of video card would be ideal for this setup. the cameras are 1080p, but there is a chance that i might lower the res to 720p. i want the system to be designed/purchased assuming that 1080p will be used that way i am safe if i decide to stay at 1080p.

    questions/comments?

    thanks.

  9. i have to assume this is a common issue.

i have a site with 6 1080p IP cameras. it looks great when you are on site looking at the exacq client, which makes sense since i am on the same network. the upload speed at this site is very low, probably 1.5mbps (possibly lower) and when viewing the cameras from another location, it is very choppy if it does come through. i am aware that this is 100% a bandwidth upload issue. if i change (lower the resolution) of the cameras, i can get a good picture and it isn't choppy, but it is no longer an HD picture at this point. i have no problem with the remote user not seeing an HD image, but i want the camera to display and record at the best possibly settings, on site.

is there a way to select the video quality for certain users? when i called exacq, about a year ago, there wasn't. they told me i could limit the bandwidth the system uses for the stream, but that would apply to all users. my guess is that this still isn't possible with the latest software upgrades, but figured i would still ask.

maybe i am overlooking this and there is another way to do what i want?

    thanks.

  10. when you save the clips from the geo system to other media checkbox include player that way you can burn a CD or send to a thumb driver and it will replay just like it was on the server. gives you better control of the clips and will play on any windows machine.

    from the log view?

i will give that a shot. the problem i am running into is that the program rpb (remote play back) has a setup.exe file that installs the software. when the user trying to install that file attempts to run the exe, it tells them it isn't compatible. it sounds like i still might have that issue with your method, but i will still give it a shot...you never know.

  11. You might want to make sure your system logs are also on the NAS device. The reason why it doesn't show up is because you have no logs.

    Hope that helps!

    -Tony

i am curious to hear if this works. i might be adding a synology nas (for other reasons) to a location that has a geovision system. if i could send the video to the NAS instead of the PC hard drives, that would be great.

how is the geovision seeing the NAS storage? did you configure the synology with iscsi and add it as an iscsi drive in windows?

  12. Can't you just export it as WMV using Viewlog on the DVR? Otherwise try this:

    -Download/install Remote Viewlog

-In the %ProgramFiles%\Remote Viewlog folder, find GVSinglePlayer.exe - simple standalone player which I believe will play back the file without having to install the codec.

-If you do need the codec, copy the GeoCodecReg folder to the desired PC, then run (as administrator) GeoCodecReg.exe file inside the folder

time to re-visit this thread. after i got the file working via my post, i didn't go back to re-visit the .wmv export. i gave some video to another person to view, along with the rbp program. when they click setup.exe, it tells them it isn't compatible with their OS.

unless the .wmv export works, it is time for me to move away from GeoVision. i know i am not using the most up to date system, so that is partially my fault, but because the system works very well, it is hard for me to throw it away/upgrade. the newer VMS systems include a .exe when you export video and it has worked on xp, w7, w8/8.1 w/o any issues.

  13. you guys recommend i switch from a centralized power source to individual power sources for each camera? that will require 16 outlets. i could see this for testing, but not for a permanent solution.

thankfully this issue hasn't occurred since last week, if it has, the owner has not mentioned it. being that this is his only view of the cameras, i have a feeling he would tell me the minute it occurs, again. i do plan on going back to swap out the bad camera, but if this occurs again, i will log in and disable the bad camera.

  14. i am experiencing an issue with a 3 year old goevision system. custom built pc, legit geovision card (purchased from an authorized retailer where i buy all my cards), using a 30 inch tv as a monitor (vga port) and not the composite video out from the geovision card.

everything has been working fine for about 3 years. the system is set to launch on start up, record, and go into full screen mode. a few days ago something odd happened. not sure if they are related or if maybe two things are happening...

    - all cameras show video lost (tested power supply, working, putting out 12 volts. if power is cycled (turning off the power supply) the cameras come back for about 15 seconds then it switches back to video lost. (exiting in and out of full screen mode doesn't do anything...continue to show video lost)

    - all cameras switch to black overlay on the cameras (no video lost is displayed) and you can see the camera names. DSP option is enabled (has a check next to it). if i exit full screen mode, i see the video feed come back. if i enter full screen mode, everything goes back to black. if i disable DSP, nothing happens. if i enabled it, nothing happens. the only thing that fixes it is to close geovision and open it back up.

    something to note:

    - 1 camera is bad. video flickers in and out and the picture is barley noticeable. i am not sure if the video signal from this feed is causing any issues with the two things i explained above. i am not on site and i can't unhook the connector, but i can login and disable it if i see the issue occur again. i want to leave it as is for testing/troubleshooting purposes, for now.

    thanks.

  15. yup, i am having the same issue that you are having. i can add another server and click the drop down and select the server, but i can't edit/delete the original entry. i do see an edit button, but that is a temporary edit, it doesn't save the value that i enter in after pressing edit.

Hi, this is a old thread.

Today Geovision is an old software and DVRs/NVRs are a better solution. They don't have Windows operating system and are more stable (without blue screen of death, memory leaks, virus and all of this MS-Windows problems). Power consupsion is lower too.

    Best regards.

let me get this straight. if i buy a brand new system i will be able to go onto the computer with geovision multivew and edit the original entry to something else??

  16. Hi again rory.

    Your solution did not work

I try to find the "localhost" item but only i get the one created by me.

I´m trying to find a solution. I will post any thing about this.

    Best regards.

  17. i noticed on new versions of IE, connecting to GeoVision over the web browser looks different. it doesn't work like it did in the past, with older versions of IE. i am now asked to download quicktime, as if i were viewing in firefox. anyone else run into this problem?

  18. those of you who are using TV or other remote connect applications are not doing it right. sure, it might work, but that is not the proper way to do it. how is the video quality (motion of the cameras)?

you need to use the remote geovision application or the web server to remote in to view the feeds, it is designed to work better when the right applications are being used.

i didn't know you could export as wav. interesting.

i ended up downloading remote viewlog program from the DVR (via browser) and copied the files from c:\windows\geovision\remoteview and put them on a CD. the program that worked was viewlog500.exe. i tested on another windows xp machine that has never seen geovision files and it did work.

i need to look into the export as WMV option a bit more. that might be a lot easier, in the future. normally i never need to give the video to anyone. they typically look at video events on the DVR.

    thanks.

  20. i have 2 video clips i need to send to someone. they don't have geovision or the codecs required. i can remote into the PC where the files are at (i have them on the desktop), but i need to play them on a PC where i am at....different location. i installed the 32 bit remote playback program, but when the video plays the file name is red. i see it attempting to play (time and scroll bar move), but no video.

do i need an older version of rdp? a newer version? is there a program that i can use that will play any geovision file? i need to make this as easy as possibly for the person that will be receiving this footage.

    thanks.

  21. ...they all seem to keep some old folders with 1 or 2 video files inside
i let it record for 1 week and i still have folders that are empty that it isn't recycling

Its normal for empty folders to hang out for a while in my experience, they will dissappear eventually. On the other hand if there is video files in the folders that are not recycling and not showing in ViewLog that would indicate database corruption.

ok i will keep an eye on it.

i am almost positive i have seen the view log be 100% accurate but that folders from 9 months ago are still sticking around. i find that odd, but maybe it isn't...?

    thanks.

  22. hmmm...not sure but I usually check 'rebuild all information' option

i purchased a new drive, put it in the system, setup GeoVision to record to the new drive, closed the program, ran the program with the additional check boxes, it did take longer. i let it record for 1 week and i still have folders that are empty that it isn't recycling.

    thanks.
