As you already know the IP addresses of the cameras (eg. 192.168.254.2), you won't need to use the SADP utility. Why do you want to access the camera's menu? You should only need access if you want to change a setting that is not available in the NVR menus. There are lots of important setting on hikvision that are not available via the nvr...if my memory serves me right, noise reduction and WDR among others.

You can access the cameras directly if you connect your pc to the NVR..there are other methods described in threads here as well..

Is there a reason you want to update your firmware? If you dont know what you are doing and if the firmware is not compatible you will brick your NVR..there is a post about folks bricking their cameras and nvr's every day...ask yourself if its worth the hassle...is there a function thats not working?

The diskstation is not a bad solution if you dont need to live monitor..but it is way less customizable..but that is personal preference...Power use on the diskstation will be lower..but you will need another device for live monitoring (additional power consumption and cost for the device)..and there is nothing as reliable as a direct hdmi monitor connection....Note that there is a synology unit that supports hdmi out to be used in conjunction with a synology NAS... Its silly to chase bad software with other cams that support it, you are throwing good money after bad...take you loss, either sell the cams and switch to a vendor that has a good integrated vms or move to a multi-platform vms... Second, i would not buy 720p in this day and age...1080 is just a bit more... I run my hikvisions in 1080 mode because it actually provides a wider horizontal view over the 3mp mode..(it will give you a wider fov than dahua with the same lens specs)..

Sounds good. Is the multinational one ok for the states and for firmware updates? Ebay shipped from the states should be faster than Aliexpress but almost $30 more. Most of the units will be chinese region with hacked us firmware...when you update to new firmware it will revert to chinese...there are fixes for the including a service provided by use CBX...or you can just mod it after each firmware upgrade...in reality you should not really need to upgrade firmware...folks do it all the time and screw up their cameras when there was noting wrong with their firmware to begin with..new is not always better..in fact hikvision removed features from the 5.1.6 firmware when they went to 5.2... The ebay unit is most likely chinese as well... Save some money and buy it via aliexpress..buy from a reputable seller and you wont have any issues..

The dome is going to be a real pain (with ir reflection and aiming)...its not better protected in any way...also the 2132 dome is only 2 axis so it cannot be wallmounted without a large mount that keeps it horizontal...The 2332 turret has better nightvision because its ir is better as well, and can be mounted on a wall...

No pan tilt, but look at the hikvision 2332 turret (85-95 on aliexpress)... You will not find a pan tilt outdoor camera from a name brand for 300...They are 600-2000...Most (not all) are large and bulky....

With that synology you cannot live monitor without another pc or some tablet displaying the cams... Another thing you fail to mention with the synology 480 FPS @ 720p (1280x800) 160 FPS @ 1080p (1920×1080) 120 FPS @ 3M (2048x1536) 70 FPS @ 5M (2591x1944) So, if you have say 10 3mp cameras you max at 12fps each...Which is fine for most folks but some want more.. The DS214+ costs 400...say you have 8 cameras...thats 300 more for licensing.....you are now at 700. It would be WAY cheaper to just replace your cameras with a single brand like hikvision or dahua and use their free vms.. BI runs just fine on modern I5 and I7's that cost 300 to 500 respectively...Your Xeon is just old and slow. BI has a ton more functionality...but yes, if you want a plug and play simple solution then go with the synology... Dont dish out misinformation about blue iris though...While blue iris does do its own motion detection which uses significantly more CPU resources than others, it allows you to set different motion thresholds for alerts vs recording, day vs night, home vs away...All this could be accomplished on a 300 dollar i5-4570 (using direct to disc) if you are recording 12-16mp which is the standard 4-8 camera system...

return it all, buy a single hd ip camera like the 2032 or 2332 (for 85 dollars on ali express)...install hikvisions free ivms software on your pc..buy more when you have cash and eventually add an nvr..

Most likely the dvr is not compatible with IE11...easy fix, before typing in the ip address hit f12..then you have the option to run in emulation mode...drop down to ie9 or ie8..then login to the dvr.

Because those foscams have all sorts of issues particularly when used wirelessly..he wanted good compression...not mjpeg.. I understand that its all relative, but the difference between the hikvision and foscam are night and day..the image is way better and the PIR sensor is a huge plus...he wants 3-4 cameras...so with 3 cameras the hikvisions are within budget...and with 4 just over budget...well worth the extra cost...i would advise the op to look at samples on youtube...finally, the FI8918W is only wireless g, which means you cannot run the network in N only mode which may benefit other devices like those used for movie streaming etc..

Missed the indoor part..the Foscam FI8918W is an mjepg vga camera and quite frankly junk... Buy the hikvision 2432 cube camera on aliexpress from a trusted seller( about 110-120)...pir motion detection (much less false alerts) poe-if you wire some, sd card slot...3mp (although over wifi you will probably have to run it 2mp or so)...h.264 compression...get the 2.8mm lens so that it will cover the whole room...you can record to hikvisions ivms on your pc which is free...

My Internet is average. What would this do to my bandwidith and web access putting this over cat 5/6? It wont matter...the cameras will run on your internal network.....when you stream you can limit the outgoing bandwidth...regardless of whether you run ip or analog hd, the data streamed for remote viewing will be the same..

Take the time to run cat5/6 through the house...with ip cameras most decent systems support poe (power over ethernet) so you wont have to run separate power cable.... Look at some 1080p or 3mp hikvision (or swann rebranded hikvision) systems.. there are lots of threads on this..

The device name can generally be whatever you want..its just for your own identification purpose because the app cam monitor more than one dvr...so just call it home or something it doesnt matter..its not checking it against a name registered on the dvr.

You are correct, just set the nvr and the cameras on the switch to have static ip's via dhcp reservation in your router..you dont have to change their ips so you do have to make any changes in the nvr..just take the current ip's set those to be static..

To add to buellwinkle's comment, make sure that after you change the ip address of the switch you hit apply THEN ALSO hit save on the top right of the interface..if you dont the switch will not hold the settings if you lose power or power cycle...

your steps are correct..in theory can connect it without a router and assign the ip addresses yourself, however it can become complex..i suggest just using a cheap router.... Also, if you shop is connected to your home network (via a single ethernet cable) then just hook the switch tp the cable and the cameras and pc to the switch..

the pc would be connected to the network (router or another swtich connected to your router) and the poe switch as well... There are lots of hikvision NVR's you can buy that support your swanns ..google. Or just buy q-see cameras and return/sell the swanns
