  1. I've just purchased a Hikvision DS-2CD2132-I camera which arrives next week. It's going outdoors to monitor the front of my property and on to the street immediately infront of my house.

First of all I was thinking of having it on record during the evening (8pm - 4am) as it's during those hours we've had some issues outside of vandalism- how much space would that use up (approx. with recommended settings for decent night vision)?

The next question is what is the range for the motion detector in meters? Is it 360 deg or just where the camera is pointing?

Newbie questions but I've looked on the web and cant find a definitive answer, noticed some of you on here are using this camera so thought I'd give it a shot!

    Cheers

With that camera you need to mount it and install it correctly or your will have ir reflection or "fog" at night (the 2332 turret is a better option). Where are you recording to? Why would you only record part time? you have a camera use it!

Motion detection is pixel based and only where the camera can see.

Note: that camera cannot be wall mounted without a wall mount (it is only 2 axis)..you need to ceiling mount it (on a horizontal plane)

  2. No. It would only affect your upload stream when someone is remote viewing..this would be the same for a DVR with remote viewing capability. If you connect the cameras directly to the NVR if it has poe, it wont even be on your network...even if you use a separate poe switch, the cameras will not saturate your network.

  3. A light going on is going to trigger it...you will have to block off way to much to avoid the trigger..the more you block and or raise the sensitivity the more you risk missing footage...You need a camera with a PIR sensor like the hikvision 2432 or attach a pir sensor to your camera if it has an alarm input.

Thanks. I do have alarm inputs on the DVR. Can I use a pir that would be used in an burglar alarm system? How would I wire it?

    Thanks, I appreciate the input.

    Bob

Yes you can..here is a basic example

  4. So this is my first Security Camera it's a Hikvision DS-2CD2732F-IS.

I'm having trouble with the video quality specifically a high amount of Noise. (Lines appearing horizontally across the screen. I'm assuming it's a problem specific to the settings. Perhaps some of you guys know some solutions -

    Device Model: Hikvision DS-2CD2732F-IS

    SV: V5.2.0build 140721

Below is a recording showing what I'm talking about

Turn the noise reduction up to 100 percent. Make sure wdr is less than 10 at night...

  5. Spend the extra money and install an ip HD system.. It will blow away those analog systems any day.

    http://www.costco.com/Q-See-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-6-1080p-Cameras.product.100128993.html

Is this system really worth it? It seems to be very low priced for 6 camera HD IP system.

    Whats the drawback?

Its a good system. You cannot build your own for less. If you need a basic 1080p system get it...its costco, you can return it anytime if you dont like it.

  6. Thanks for the info but I'm going to do it myself.

I just need a starting point.

Last year I installed a complete Vista 20P HSS.

Twenty wired & wireless contacts, glass breaks, smokes, pirs, honeywell alpha keypads & wireless keyfobs. Took me a several days to install the hardware and a few more to fully program & tweak the entire system. Set up the programming & contracted with a CSM too.

However I spent a nearly two months reading and learning the complete ins & outs of home security before I planned out & purchased all my equipment online.

As for as CCTV - The install & wiring wont be an issue for me ...once I learn about the system I want. And it sure as hell has to be easier then programming hss alpha keypads with 35 sensors.

So since "this forum is full of idiots" as you say, can you direct me to a good place to start getting educated.

I dont want BestBuy analog crap. I'd like a remotely viewable HD system but between all the terms like HS-CVi, HD-TVI, HD-SDI I would like just a bit more more info. Also decent brand names.

I've viewed a couple camera comparison videos. Im not seeing a 'huge' difference between 720 & 1mp 1080. Is it worth it to get the 1080? Can easy face recognition still be achieved with 720 at 20-30 feet?

    Thanks again

For a new install you dont want cvi/tvi/sdi those are just technologies that allow hd over coax cable used for older analog system. You want an IP system. The good ones are all POE-you will use a single ethernet cable to both power the camera and transmit date...1080p is worthwhile...note that generally the lower MP cameras like 1.3mp perform better in low light than 3mp cameras...

There are tons of posts here on ip cameras...just start reading.

  7. Hey all, I am making a home camera system to survey and record.

    My plan:

16 cameras with POE, NAS support, at least 50 ft night vision, 1080p and good resolution/screen size.

1 GB router with enough ports.

    1 NAS with good capacity.

1 UPS with good run time.

Basically, I am having trouble finding good cameras at a good price, Lorex has some nice cameras but they are 200 dollars a piece.

As far as remote watching with my phone, I can VPN to my router and view the cameras as media video streaming servers, so thats easy.

Basically, I know what I want to do, I'm just having problems finding good hardware that can support my needs. Most of what I find is either cheap junk or overpriced good stuff.

    EDIT:

I forgot to add, I would like to have actual motion sensors trigger recording if possible.

Like those flood light motion sensors, something like that, but for the camera, no flood lights.

look for hikvision cameras with alarm inputs (you will need that if you want to use a pir sensor)...

  8. A CCTV engineer installs a system in a client's property and accidentally leaves a 500m (440m remaining) roll of outdoor cable at the site. When the engineer returns to recover the cable the client denies all knowledge, but weeks later the client is seen to be auctioning the cable on ebay?

Whos property is it and does the client have the right to sell the cable (bear in mind a 500m roll of cat5 exteriror grade is about £180)

The client claims they paid for the cable as part of the installed system?

    Your thougts and reactions appreciated...

    Has a crime been committed?

Unless the installed specifically included a charge for 500m of cable for the install and only used 60m the cable belongs to the installer...it is no different than leaving your drill behind...the customer is a POS...What would I do? I would BUY the cable on ebay, then file a complaint saying the cable was not as described and send back a box of scraps with your business card in there...but thats just me.

  9. Search for a NVD - Network Video Decoder or Standalone Video Client. That should suit you well.

    Are the cameras ONVIF certified?

The cameras are all ONVIF (I believe 2.2) certified. However, when looking for one of these I found an ACTi one online for $450. Are these devices really that expensive, or am I getting ripped off?

Look for an HDMI stick like Android or even an Amazon Fire Stick. These plug into the HDMI port on your TV/Monitor and get power from the USB port on the TV or a USB power adapter if your TV does not have a USB port. They are small, maybe 2-3" long 1" wide. You can use double stick tape to hold it against the TV.

Then download an IP camera viewer app and you can setup a grid of cameras to watch. I use IP Cam Viewer, but may not be available for Amazon but someone here said they used Tinycam with it. The advantage of the Fire Stick is it comes with a remote where the Android stick requires that you purchase that separately.

Don't know of a cheaper way to do it as these devices run about $40.

I have tried this app on my Android phone (galaxy s4), and it lags like crazy. When viewing even 1 cam it takes around 10 seconds to update the live view compared to the NVR. I have no idea how crazy it would get with the weak CPUs inside those HDMI sticks.

Try a fire tv wiith ethernet...if it doesnt work return to amazon...

You can also try a cheap NVR that can pull a separate stream from the camera...otherwise just use an hdmi splitter and display all the streams in each locations.

  10. Go for the IP hd..run new ethernet cable..you will thank yourself later...

If you absolutely refuse to rerun cable consider something like this

    http://www.costco.com/Lorex-16-Channel-HD-720p-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-12-HD-Cameras-and-1-12X-Zoom-HD-PTZ-Camera.product.100125952.html

There are also other systems out there that do hd over analog, look for cvi sdi tvi...but you will be limiting yourself...Dahua makes a tribrid nvr that does analog/hdcvi/and ip...

  11. Bought this to try and understand how everything works.

When I know, what is what and when pocket supports, may be I should go for the HD one

Consider that if you want to go to an ip hd system later you will have to rerun cat5/6 unless you run ethernet now and use balluns...otherwise you will be forced to use analog hd like cvi sdi tvi which are limited.

  12. DS-7104N-SN/P arrived and cameras work fine connected to that.

I did get a 803.2af compliant PoE injector, they did not work even with that compliant device. FYI.

If they worked with your NVR, then they will work with a compliant device..you may have not installed sadp correctly (there are issues with windows 8, if you dont install the wincap component properly sadp will run but not detect anything...

Best way to test is to change the ipv4 settings on the pc and log directly into the cam...

  13. This is a long shot, but maybe it's the camera.. To me that 'spot' looks like a camera with a bracket - It could be reflecting off something to make a slight shadow.

Try moving the camera to the right a little to face more on the path not really the wall.

If this doesn't work, let me know .

The OP solved the problem..read the post above yours.
