1. DVR is ZMD-DC_SBN6 from Zmodo

    • ZMODO 600TVL Outdoor Surveillance Camera System 16CH H.264 DVR with 8 High Resolution Weatherproof Day/Night Security Cameras with 1TB Hard Drive pre-

need advice on the type of cameras that's compatible with this DVR - preferably a higher resolution then what I have now

That dvr will only support low resolution analog cameras. If you want to reuse your cable you can get an HD over coax system like these.

If your budget allows and you are willing to run ethernet you can move up to ip cameras.

  2. I purchase a relatively inexpensive system from zmodo and need to replace cameras. would a hd camera work with a H.264 DVR ?

and if so which cameras should I buy?

    Thanks

you need to provide the model of the dvr...there are many types of hd cameras.....

  3. I can't fix the network right now but 5% loss is not that sigbificant. here are my settings:

Why dont you take the camera down and test it with a good cable...you may think 5% is insignificant, the camera might disagree. Laview is rebranded hikvision. You should not be having this problem...also what is your cpu consumption when testing in ispy?

What you are seeing is dropped frames....try increasing your iframe interval to 20. try setting to constant bitrate.

  4. I think I saw this issue mentioned a while back somewhere but can't remember where. Had my system up and running and swapped the camera out for slightly newer ds-2cd2342wd-i and I am experiencing random periodic flashes in what appear to be exposure causing the camera to go super bright and fade back to normal, usually 2 flashes in a row. This also happens at night but causes the camera to go dark and appears to happen more frequently.

    Anyone know the fix?

    Thanks.

There is a firmware update that fixes this. Make sure your have a US region camera before updating.

  5. I don't believe its a camera fault - I am relatively new to CCTV so am still on a steep learning curve. My network runs on Cat5e cabling and Gigabit switches. The Netgear ReadyNAS has 2x 2TB WD Red drives in on RAID 0 and is also Gigabit. The Hikvision cameras are 100mb, not gigabit.

I very highly doubt it is a network issue. Baring in mind I am after as much quality as possible, I have the video quality cranked right up to maximum and maximum frame rate the cameras will allow. I just assumed that even a 8mbps bitrate stream would be childs play on a gigabit network with nothing other than 80mbps internet traffic maximum. Or is bitrate measured differently to network bandwidth?

    Thanks.

You can run at max settings but as pointed out earlier its not nessesay...you will not see a difference if your run at 4096...Cat5e is meaningless, what brand? there are cheap cca cables that will cause tons of packet loss. Even bad crimps...Take the camera down, run a short cable and test. If you still have the problem, try recording direct to pc and see if the problems is resolved.

  6. Ok so I just tried blue iris on a slightly more powerful computer and it made a phenomenal difference, looks just like the stream through the web browser! I think I know why it didn't want to work well with the other computer now but thats a long story.

As for my setup they are connected through a wireless N router, hardwired at the moment but I will try the wireless again in a bit, again the through the cameras software looked fine on wifi so I doubt there will be any change.

Thank you so much for your input! Now if only i could get my sricam to work blue iris detects it (ispy didn't) but I cant get the stream to come through... any ideas?

Wifi is much of your issue...its always going to cause problems...

Dont use detection..select the proper camera form the dropdown...you should really toss the sricam in the trash, you will be better off for it.

  7. its being implemented according to the developer. Its much better in terms of its feature set.....if you are having the same issues with blue iris, milestone, vlc etc..then you have a network problem or you have impropery set your camera..reset to default and start over....the cameras own software is likely displaying the substream...

So... would it be better to pull the substream with blue iris? I guess the main thing i want is 1080p recording, doesn't make sense to me to do all this work and spend the money if I cant ID someone from the footage if something were to happen. The only way I have found to get a smooth feed so far is dropping to 720p

No, you dont have to pull the substream. There is something wrong with your network or camera settings...This is user error, you need to figure out what is wrong. First thing is to reset EVERYTHING in the camera to default - do a factory reset. Then try again.

Do you think all of us using 1080/3mp/4mp cameras are recording the substream only? no. There is something wrong with your setup.

How is your network setup? how are the cams connected to the network?

  8. Also I installed the crappy software that came with one of the cameras, works great through that as well.

You can ignore sunnykim. He has an agenda...There is some glitch in ispy causing this. You are likely better off on the ispy forum. Try blue iris, its light years ahead of ispy and there are no monthly charges for remote viewing or alerts like ispy.

As I've said earlier, tried blue iris, it was slightly better but not great by any means. Does that use hardware acceleration or no?

  9. There is another thread of today. Please read

    viewtopic.php?f=2&t=48877

I may recommend that HD Analog, specially 720P, has become very cheap and rugged. Why paying more for the trouble, 4MP cameras which are using the very same sensor of 720P cameras?

One thread and you like it in every post. That user has a network or hard drive problem. Stop misleading. The cameras do not use the same sensor. How far will you China scammers go to promote and peddle your junk.

  10. So far, at the top of my list is:

    1. HikVision 4MP WDR Vari-Focal Bullet IP Security Camera 2.8-12mm (Model: 2CD2642FWD-I)

    2. HikVision 7716NI-SP/16 16 Channel POE Plug N Play Hi Def NVR Recorder

    Any thoughts?

When you go for IP camera system, please read the today's thread

    viewtopic.php?f=12&t=47989.

4MP IP Cameras? Wow that may cause a lot compelxity to Playback/Saving.

I may recommend 720P IP, if you are confident with IP system.

You may go for HD-Analog systems (720P is good enough)-HD-AHD/HD-CVI/HD-TVI, for your home application.

There is no complexity. It may be too complex for you. Why dont you go find posts where folks are having trouble with D1 dvr's and 720p systems. One post is meaningless. Stop purposely misrepresenting facts. Go sell your D1 junk someplace else.

  11. Boogieman dancing around in this forum could answer your problems. I do not understand why so many advocates IP cameras. Some keeps peddling 4MP cameras from HikVision. There are still problems with "3 IP Cameras with each less 3mbps and less 10 FPS".

You dont know what you are talking about. This is a network related issue. Thousands of other people dont have this issue. Why dont I have this problem? One post and sunnykim pops his china scammer head up out of the sand. Fool. Search this forum for thousands of problems with analog. Do you blame analog or the installer? We are not dumb here in america. You cannot scam us anymore. We have youtube!!!! We can see the difference between D1 and 4mp. Fool. Time to take some networking classes sunnykim.

Go back to your china assembly line and keep making your D1 low resolution garbage that your company dumps on unsuspecting fools.

His answer is simply to blame your network bandwidth, not to blame the system of IP Camera.

How come I dont have this issue? How come thousands of others dont have this issue? hmmmmm.

Just installed 12 cameras. 3mp, 15fps, 4096 bitrate. All run smooth as butter. Do I have a magic cameras?

FYI, the frame rate is irrelevant and distinct from the bitrate. You keep mentioning it like it has an effect. Please learn the concepts before commenting.

OP should tell us what model switch he is using...cables - copper not china junk CCA (copper clad aluminium). Hard drive? Is it a green or other slow drive? etc..

  13. So why would you not call it a PTZ? It pans, it tilts, and it zooms. Is it just not expensive enough?

When I worked in the business doing Pelco back in the 80's, pan and tilt was only available with big, heavy, mounts that cost thousands of dollars. Zoom cameras cost about five-thousand. Infrared illuminators were closer to thirty-thousand dollars. And image quality sucked compared to even the cheapest cameras available today. But these cameras are still cameras.

The biggest issue is that they have not been proven reliable. Anyone can build a camera that lasts 6 months. The cost of sending a technician out to replace a camera or 20 because you went with a low end product is not worth it (cost, customer satisfaction) There have been so many of these fly by night cams that end up being horror stories after 6 months or a year.

  14. Contrary to what is stated above, there are cameras that perform really well in low light. But you will have to pay. Checkout hikvisions darkfighter series. About 600.

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1162153-REG/hikvision_darkfighter_series_ds_2cd4526fwd_izh_2mp.html

    This camera includes motorized varifocal.

Alternatively you can go with 720p camera that, in general perform better in low light, see also dahua 2100 series 1.3mp cameras which have exceptionally great night vision.

16mp cameras do not use the same sensor and 720p cameras...higher mp camera like a 4mp will perform much better in daylight, but at night a 720p, in general, will be better. The darkfighter camera will perform exceptionally well at night and low light.

  15. Hello,

I have a Kguard DVR and everything has been working fine, until I switched the recorder off in order to carry out my annual Health and Safety checks for electronic products.

After switching the recorder back on, Kguard's app on my mobile phone says 'KGServer cannot locate the specified device', this only happens when I am not connected to internet on my premises. I've tried deleting the device on my app and re-installing it but to no success.

Has anyone come across this sort of problem?

    Please help, many thanks

Check your external ip address....if you also rebooted your modem, it may have changed.

  16. I have a strong signal all around my house inside and outside. Reaching the power is not the problem. The problem is the attic and some areas will require us to make damage to the walls to connect the lines. I don't like seeing wires running around on my Brick outside.

We have tested wireless cams and they work perfectly , the question is they are sold at max 4 cams with NVR. and i am looking for 6 or 8 . so did anyone had to purchase extra wireless cams and connect to the NVR ??

you will not see wires running on your brick. You simply need to hire a professional to properly run the ethernet INSIDE the walls. You are asking for trouble with wifi. Do not do it.

  17. Boogieman is right. If considering wireless cams, bear in mind that they still need power, and therefore wires. Moreover, wireless is not reliable for outdoor cameras, because the wifi signal is not stable when penetrating walls (If you only have one cam installed OR cams locate near each other then that's OK but actually you need 6 more cams). As for POE, the major drawback associated with it is power concentration. Because of this, it is important to make sure that the right electrical configuration and enough amperage are available to operate the system, which means more troubleshooting you need to tackle with afterwards. Why not select a wired set & forget security system?

Do you understand what POE is? what is this power concentration drawback? What troubleshooting? This makes zero sense. There is nothing to configure, just plug and play.

  18. Hi ,

I am new in this business and i am looking for a wireless system to install to my house.

i have seen products with 4 wireless cameras and i am looking at 6 or more systems with no luck.

How can i obtain a 6 wireless camera system ? can i buy the systems with 4 and purchase the the 2 cameras separately ?

Did anyone install more than 4 wireless systems ? please advice what and where and how can i have 6 or 8 wireless systems from a good brand company with good support ???

I am looking for wireless because i am getting in my home on the 5GHZ network 150 MBS and on the 2.4GHZ network i get 45 MBPS . for the wired i am getting more than 300 MBPS , time Warner internet provider is amazing. I am running Netgear Nighthawk router.

I am looking for system that supports the 5 GHZ broadcast and at the same time get like 6 or 8 wireless cameras ???

I also saw DVRs from some companies with the router embedded in the DVR which is really bad and not recommended. The router or any router from 3-4 years will be slower so i dont see advantage with built in router in DVR.

I am not an expert and need the professionals and experts to give me some advice , i have 3000 SQFT two levels and i hate the cables and wiring and we thing min 6 cameras are needed.

my last choice Is having two systems with 4 cameras each ... not sure if this choice viable or not.

You need to run cables for power anyway...hire a professional to run wire in the walls. Wifi will never work right. You will never get good signal with 5ghz, it doesnt penetrate well. You also need to do much more research...there is no such thing as a router built into a dvr..what you may be referring to is an NVR with POE capability.
