  1. check the drive

How does one do that with a Windows 7 computer? I have determined the IP address of the NVR and can ping it from the CMD line (and it responds). But I'm not clear on how to log into the device itself to check the disk. The SwannView Link software logs into it ok, but I am kept at arms length from the actual disk - so can't run chkdsk for example - or see how much free space it has..

pull it out and connect to pc..or try a known good disk in there.

  2. Hey Guys, I am very new at networking so I hope there is a simple answer.

I have multiple IP cameras I have been installing over some time that I will be connecting to my PoE switch soon.

I have a Mac Mini running my Home File sharing server. I have 1 desktop 1 Tv and some other devices which use this Server on my Home Network which uses a NAS to file share.

All other devices such as laptops and pc's are windows 7 pro OS (don't ask. long story)

I am going to run Blue Iris as my VMS on a dedicated windows OS Machine.

What I don't understand is how If I add the dedicated PC for the cameras to the Network, won't it bog down my File Sharing Server since the streams will have to pass through the File Sharing Server to record onto the NAS for the home network?

I am concerned that when I go to view offsite using VPN won't that also have to run through the File Sharing Server attached to my router? Since the File Sharing Server running my home network (mac mini) is only i5 8gb ram it will not handle the video streams through blue iris if I remote access?

I am totally confused on this one...

Any advice on how to add a dedicated PC for VMS to a home network without overloading the main server?

I hope someone has run into a similar issue and can help out....

Why would the streams have to pass though your server? Record to the blue iris machine..even if you also want to record to nas, there is not reason it has to pass though your server...

If you connect the BI machine to the same poe switch as the cameras, there wont even be any data passing through your router.

  3. Hello Everybody

l have a Floureon Security System but want to know if l can connect to the internet (Floureon security unit to my Router), instead of using a long (20 meter +) cat 3 cable and use wifi, if l can, how do l do it ? l hope l can, it would save a lot of problems, l have already set it up by using the cat 3 cable, so the settings are correct. Thank you in advance

Does your system come with a NVR or ip cameras?

    That is irrelevant....

OP, it is not recommended to use wifi...but if you wish, what you are looking for is a wifi bridge...also look at powerline adapters.

  4. I am looking to install a new POE camera system for our house. I am looking at an 8 channel system, and will most likely need 6 cameras. Trying to stay around $500. What would be the best option?

    Thanks

    Pete

It will be tough to meet the 500 mark, unless you wait for sales...look at hikvision or dahua systems and or their rebranded equivalents swann and qsee/lorex respectively (at costco).

  5. I'd be grateful for any tips on how to debug an NVR recording issue.

About 9 months ago, I installed a Swann Wi-Fi CCTV system (2 cameras + NVR) - product code: SWNVA-460AH2. The system was working fine until a few days ago when the NVR suddenly stopped detecting/recording motion.

Using SwannView Link installed on a Windows 7 PC, I am still getting a good view of what the cameras are seeing (i.e. they are still communicating with the NVR via WiFi). But, when there is movement, the NVR no longer records anything. It hasn't recorded a single thing from either camera for a week now.

I have tried rebooting the NVR, restoring it to factory settings and setting the "motion detect" mesh to cover the full camera screen (so even swaying bushes in the corner should be detected). But still nothing.

What is the error likely to be? Is this a software error or has the NVR's recording mechanism simply failed? How can I pin down the precise problem?

    check the drive

  6. Ok cool. I will have to try that.

Does anyone know what is the latest firmware I should have on the cameras and the NVR.

I also heard that updating the firmware on the cameras can brick them. I want to try and avoid that.

Thanks for everyone's help so far.

    Matt.

IF your cameras are china region cameras do not update the firmware..where did you buy them?

  7. i believe so, i used the onboard hdd tools on the new unit to reformat though that may be the reason why it wont use it, the programming is very shoddy with lots of spelling mistakes, so who knows how much care they took writing the code lol, il have to buy a hdd caddy and reformat using usb cable.

just to confirm the unit itself works and it records video fine but like i mentioned it seems to prefer me laptop hdd over the installed one lol

How much did you pay for it? you might consider getting an HD cvi/tvi unit so you can upgrade you cams...I dont understand why you would want to keen an item the is giving you trouble from the get go.

  8. Hello, just bought a .H264 DVR without HDD by company called Annke,

my old DVR (SWANN) died but the 500GB HDD was fine so i transfered it over to the new unit and checked to see if it registered, no problem it reads it fine, the issue i have is it will not record to the installed HDD, it will only record to my laptops hdd over the network,

any ideas would be great i can provide images if you need them,

    many thanks,

    Regards,

    Steven

Send it back. Most of annnke's reviews on amazon are fake.

Did you properly reformat the drive when you put it in?

  9. As long as both are hooked on the Network, the chances are the same, at least to me.

That is NOT accurate. Most standalone NVR;s are NOT properly patched for vulnerabilities... takes months for them to be patched. Then at some point, the manufacturer stops updating firmware. Not to mention the cheap junk that never get updated because the supplier is long gone. VPN will resolve any problems.

  10. The orginal poster likes to have a 5MP or more pixels. But I am wondering why a poor peddler has to keep on promoting 4MP cameras. Probably directed by his boss????

Yes you are correct, my bosses at dahua, hikvision, costco, amazon, newegg etc, give me direct orders. They tell me to fight china spammers like you. Again, as usual you are off topic. Stop giving bad advice to end users. Read my posts more carefully so you learn something. I beg you to buy an IP camera just for testing, one 720p one 1080p and one 4mp. Its clear you never used or owned any ip cameras and are only exposed to the low end D1 cameras your junk china company sells. Nobody wants your intentionally misleading and false advice. Not sure why the moderators have not removed you as simply a china spammer.

Do not try to get out of a direct focus. This one does not prove that you are not peddler of 4MP ip camera.

The china scammer strikes again. You need to be removed from this forum.

What is the direct focus? Did you not see where I mentioned 2mp AND 4mp? Stop lying. China scammer.

  12. This from the guy who promotes D1 china junk. Sunnykim failed again to read my post in its entirety.

Sounds eerily similar to the installer I talked to. This installer just jumped straight into TVI as if its the only thing in town. Badmouthed bullet cams and when IP was suggested, he brought up the bandwidth thing.

However your video seems to suggest to go to a higher pixel count because when zooming in it will give greater detail. Guess that is the key how much detail and how far will objects be.

Your minimum should be 1080p...going from d1 to 1080 is much greater than going from 2mp to 4mp...4mp is not double the pixel density...

Regardless, my point was that with respect to hikvision, the 2mp and 4mp are better at night and low light, than the 3mp..

  13. If you should go for IP cameras, go for 2MP -IP Cameras. Not 4MP version, more expensive for nothing. You may be highly likely to get into troubles for spot monitoring of 8 Channels simultaneously.

As another option for Hikvision that you have to choose, you may look into the HD-TVI (analog HD) X 8 Ch X 1080P -system (1 DVR and cameras) for less than U$ 500.

There is no trouble with spot monitoring with 2mp of 4mp. Im convinced that you dont understand what spot monitoring means. TVI is transitional technology and should not be installed in a new installation. Its 2015 not 2005.

I do not need to prove anything to a poor peddler of Hikvision 4MP IP Camera.

Way to not answer the question. Oh and by the way, I mentioned BOTH 2mp and 4mp cameras in my post. Stop making up lies about "spot monitoring" when you dont even know what that means. At least in this post you dont promote D1 resolution anymore making false claims that D1 is the same as 1080p. So it looks like you are making progress. Great.

  15. Hi There

I have just installed a floureon cctv system and have managed to sort every thing out apart from when I connect the device to the internet the clock on the system jumps forward's 6 hours! can any one advise please.

Yes, check the time settings, its likely set to the wrong timezone....

  16. Thank you.

I am brand new to the surveillance stuff. I thought to use an independent recorder, but as I wrote I do not now which one.

I am not able to find the turret version 2332 you recommend. Do yo have the mfg and model number by chance?

Its made by hikvision...there are 2mp and 4mp version of the turret that are better than the 3mp.

You cannot randomly select an NVR and expect it to work with any camera...match the camera manufacturer to the NVR.
