  1. I've built a Z-wave PIR as an experiment...

    Components:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0030G8SC8

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008Q5CTBE

Motion detection on the PIR sends power to the relay, which closes the z-wave door sensor, sending a "tripped" state alert to my VeraLite. The VeraLite runs a scene that sends an external trigger to Blue Iris, to trigger motion recording on a group of cameras covering the front of my house.

I chose the RAB PIR because unlike most of these lighting PIRs, the RAB can be set to detect motion during daylight hours.

  2. Talking specifically of these DS-2CD2332-I 3MP cams.

Im having random reboots thru the day and i would like to check if they´re really reseting themselves or the problem is on the network side of things.

    Thanks.

telnet to the camera and login as username root using the admin password then issue the following command:

     awk '{print int($1/3600)":"int(($1%3600)/60)":"int($1%60)}' /proc/uptime

the resulting output will be the uptime shown as h:m:s.

  3. If you have a Vera home automation controller you can do what I did.

Add a MimoLite by Fortrezz (http://fortrezz.com/index.php/products/mimolite) to your Z-Wave network, install a wired magnetic sensor on the garage door, and connect the MimoLite to the magnetic sensor and the garage door opener's button.

Install the Vera garage door app, and it lets you see whether the door is open or closed, and remotely open or close the door. Then you can set up any sort of notification or automated actions you want.

  4. I had installed version 5.1.2 and hacked the davinci file on my DS-2CD2532F-IWS and because of that I was able to download and install 5.1.6 from the european site without the region issue. That being said, as soon as I logged out it went to all chinese. I telneted in and uploaded the davinci file I had used in 5.1.2 and rebooted the camera. It came back in English so I was happy. I logged into the camera and all looked good. I had the test buttons that had been talked about so all was good. Just to be sure I checked the firmware version and much to my surprise it is showing as 5.1.2 and NOT 5.1.6 as I would have thought. Can anyone confirm that the test buttons for things like NTP and IP Address were Not in 5.1.2? It may mean that the davinci file is making the camera think its 5.1.2 when its really running 5.1.6.

I have cameras running 5.1.2 and 5.1.6. Each are running with a davinci.tar.gz from the appropriate version that has been patched. I can confirm that the Test buttons do not exist in 5.1.2.

I would not recommend using the 5.1.2 davinci.tar.gz on your 5.1.6 camera. There is no telling what issues it might cause.

  5. You might try loading firmware via TFTP. I've never done a Hikvision camera, so I can't say for sure whether or not it will reset the camera to factory settings, but it doesn't sound like you have much to lose. I can't post a link that you can click on, so you'll have to copy and past the following into your browser, but here is the URL for the TFTP tool and documentation on the Hikvision Europe server....
