    i think with all the hotkey attempts, i may have messed something up. because no matter what i try, the network settings will not stay saved and its not allowing it to obtain the correct ip address

    First Security System

    thats true, however its nice to have a pc available for doing whatever. if the dvr system goes down or has issues, at least u still got a pc available to help you fix the problem. as opposed to having an issue with a dvr card, then u gotta shut the pc down, or reboot or whatever it takes.

    First Security System

    im just like you wrinkster, a few years ago, i did myfirst own home security system as well. i had lots of questions and nobody to answer them for me. lol so i kinda did the same thing, ask in msg boards. first and foremost would be how many cameras are you going to have? that number will give you a good idea as to how many channels you'll need in a dvr unit. if you are going to install 4 cameras, DONT buy a 4 channel dvr unit, buy AT LEAST an 8 channel unit. trust me, you will be glad you did. if a channel on the unit goes bad or more likely, you will eventually install more cameras in the future. so give urself some wiggle room. if you have internet access at home, which im sure you prolly do, then i'd suggest getting a standalone or embedded unit, as opposed to a pc based unit. standalone dvr units are well worth their $$, and they can range in price. I scored mine off of craigslist for $250. its a 16 channel linux embedded unit. has built in ethernet port and a serial (rs232) port for debugging and the rs485 for PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras. this unit is considered a "Pentaplex" becuz of the multiple and simultaneous operations it can perform. its got a built in web server for remote viewing and a RTSP (real time streaming protocol) service for connecting via IOS or ANDROID.

    serial debug console

    ok so now i have a bigger problem, for some reason, the network settings are screwed up and when i change them to what they should be, i save it but the setting go right back to where they were..... heres what im talking about> Login as ADMIN---> setup---->system setup--->network---> IP SETUP. CURRENT SETTINGS DHCP: (checkbox) checked Web Service: (checkbox) checked Ip Address: 255.255.255.255 Gateway: 0.0.0.0 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255 1st DNS Server: 192.168.1.1 2nd DNS Server: 0.0.0.0 CORRECT SETTINGS DHCP: (checkbox) checked Web Service: (checkbox) checked Ip Address: 192.168.1.149 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 1st DNS Server: 0.0.0.0 2nd DNS Server: 0.0.0.0 In order to change the ip addresses, i have to "UNCHECK" the DHCP checkbox. When i do that, it allows me to change the addresses how i want to but when i click on save at bottom of page, it will save it but as soon as i exit the menu and re-enter the menu, the settings have changed back to what they were previously. I have done the factory reset using the "hotkey" and its still doing the same thing. so as it sits now, i have no NETWORK access to the unit whatsoever. the serial debug console still works tho

    Is there any way to interrupt the boot process via usb or ethernet. what would happen if i used a cross over cable and linked it directly to my pc.

    serial debug console

    ok so still no luck at getting it stopped. i dont think the commands are getting thru to the console until after it has passed the stop autoboot point. im using PuTTY, maybe its not configured properly?

    what do you mean , from my log??

    serial debug console

    well i guess stopping the boot process is a little more complicated than i thought. i can see in the log that it gives 0 seconds to "press any key" and ive tried and tried and still cant get it to stop. i guess when i was getting the login prompt, it was from the "hot key sequence". which i did find a change in the logfile that shows the following...... [/size] debug-Message: nf_debug_category_add cate[sysman] log_str[0x00205f60] log_arr[0x00205fe0] log_arr_max_idx[3] [1] sysman-Message: nf_sysman_hotkey_init cmdline[console=ttyS0,115200n8 noinitrd rw ip=::::NFDVR:eth0:off root=/dev/mtdblock9 rootfstype=yaffs2 mem=120M eth=00:11:5F:06:80:61 fw_upgrade_temp num_ch=16 signal_type=ntsc model_type=ANF_1648 crc_ubl=99c953dd crc_ker=ab3ddeba crc_fpga=15a5290d pannel_type=ITX-5 rc_type=AVR4816-ITX hw_ver=MAFS116C ] sysman-Message: nf_sysman_hotkey_init _factory_default [0] sysman-Message: nf_sysman_hotkey_init _passwd_reset [0] sysman-Message: nf_sysman_hotkey_init _fwupgrade [0] sysman-Message: nf_sysman_hotkey_init _qa [0] sysman-Message: nf_sysman_hotkey_init _consol_enable [0] sysman-Message: nf_sysman_hotkey_init _is_nfs [0] sysman-Message: nf_sysman_hotkey_init _boot_mtd_num [9] sysdb-Message: nf_sysdb_init wait[1] load_data[1] I have figured out that the HOTKEY sequence is achieved by holding down DISPLAY, SETUP, and ANY NUMBER and plugging the power cord into wall. DISPLAY, SETUP, NUMBER1 = factory_default NUMBER2 = passwd_reset NUMBER3 = fwupgrade NUMBER4 = qa (fwdowngrade) NUMBER5 = consol_enable NUMBER6 = is_nfs (??) NUMBER7 = boot_mtd_num
