    NVR

You can always use your existing cabling to pull in your new Cat6 cabling
  2. If it is riser cable you could, but if it is patch cables (pre made cables) I would advise against it
  3. RG59 is coax I think you meant Cat5 In that case, 60ft + 75ft is 135ft, 328ft is max allowed in a Ethernet segment (Device to device) Now splices, they are awful and they can fail. I always run a new cable point to point, but if you must make sure you have access to that splice in case you have to reconnect it for some odd reason

    effio-e cameras question

Sounds like a fake Let me guess, the seller is in China?
  5. Also once it is done with the TFTP upgrade, shut down the TFTP server on the computer, if you keep it up, the camera will just restart the firmware upgrade process all over again.
  6. I noticed that sometimes after a TFTP upgrade, the camera will reset the IP address, I would try to find with SADP or iVMS-4200 and change the IP address back (or turn on DHCP if that is your setup)
  7. Did the computer that you were testing it on have a solid state hard drive? A SSD hard drive can make the world of a difference when loading programs. I just tested iVMS-4200 on my i7 laptop with 8GB of RAM and 1TB traditional hard drive 23 seconds to load iVMS on my Dell i5 Desktop with 2GB of RAM and 120GB Solid State hard drive 13 seconds to load Tablets, as mentioned above, already have Flash storage drives already installed, most desktops/laptops use traditional spinning disk drives, unless you order or build one with a SSD drive (costs more/less space/more $$$ per GB)
  8. The reason you probably won't get any response is that your request is very vague You basically came here said build it for me but never gave any details and here is my budget This is why people hire pros, in your situation, it would probably end up cheaper (over the long run) Why? Because the pros would know exactly what you need to accomplish your goals Sure they will cost more upfront (your budget would easily double), but they would buy the right camera, NVRs, cabling, POE switches, power supplies, etc the first time. Instead of trying to do it yourself and just guessing and buying the wrong gear, burning stuff up, etc. And just end up frustrated trying to get it all work without any knowledge of the equipment, networking details, etc. Time is money as well, if it takes you two days to do something a pro can do in 20 minutes, did you really save any money? Just a FYI, I am not a pro, I do not do this professionally, I am just very handy with computers and electronics so I am one of those "naturals" when it comes to this stuff. Good luck.
  9. Better night vision with the IR You can manually force it into color, but you probably won't like the results
  10. You need to re-read the directions follow everything including what IP address to set the "server" at It is very particular Also, you may need to power the camera with 12volts instead of poe The camera looks for that IP address on start up, and will connect to the TFTP server, if the IP is wrong or you did not put the firmware in the correct directory on the "server", it will not work and the camera will just boot normally Also if you have antivirus/windows firewall/Norton firewall/etc you should disable them temporarily and re-enable them when this process has completed. The firewalls might be blocking the TFTP port and it might be the reason it is not working for you. The process should not take more than a couple minutes. you should see a live log on the server seeing what is going on. Good luck
  11. IVMS-4200 on playback or live right click on camera view you want to zoom click "open digital zoom" now draw a box around the area you want to zoom
  12. You can load 5.1.0 on the cameras, you will need to use TFTP to do it Google TFTP Hikvision Hikvision has the directions to load firmware on these from the boot process, follow the direction carefully and exact and it will work You will need to setup the TFTP server software on a computer and put the firmware in the directory, Hikvision has the software and directions to do this However the CBX solution would be the best solution and you can load any English firmware you want, so your camera would be flexible without the need for "hacks" and tricks
  13. You have is a Chinese Region. iVMS-4200 will only work with US region cameras You have two options 1) search these forums for the "hack" and follow those directions, read the entire post/thread and the directions fully before you begin 2) Search for a member that goes by "CBX" he had developed a program that will change the region of you Camera from Chinese to US, once the fix has been applied you can download any version of the firmware and all of your menus will stay in English (your day of the week will also appear in English as well) Once either 1 or 2 has been applied to your camera, it will work with iVMS-4200 or any other HikVision software/hardware The Chinese sellers on eBay or Allibaba are selling Chinese Region cameras, they are still HikVision cameras, just that HikVision sells them in China at a deep discount (to compete with other Chinese manufacturers) so they sell a "US" region camera for the US through distributors, and they want the keep the prices high so they make the Chinese cameras incompatible with US software, firmwares, Chinese menus are just ways they try to "protect" this market. Good luck
  14. It works fine here Is your day of the week on the Camera in "Chinese"?

    CCTV Texas License

Why not contact the state of Texas and inquire getting the proper license(s)? You should never take legal advice off of the internet, find out through the proper channels. I believe in NJ you would have to get a "alarm installer" license, basically you can't get one if you are a felon Which makes sense if you think about it.

    Hikvision IVMS 5200

IVMS-5200 looks like a solution suitable for a larger install, they have two versions pro and enterprise, pro allow up to 1024 devices and enterprise is unlimited, it also will connect to third party cameras. It also looks like you need to setup a dedicated server to use this as well. It is probably more of a "me too" product because like you stated, there is other stuff out there that can do this, if not better. Probably so a vendor/installer can offer a pure Hikvision solution to customers, under the guise of "one throat to choke"

    two switch questions

You can always use gigabit switches to help "future proof" your install I am using Cisco 3750 poe switches that are 10/100 with 32Gbps throughout put, that kind of backplane bandwidth is uncommon in consumer switches, I have 8 IP cameras and the switch is at 4% of its bandwidth capacity. When connecting switch to switch, you will either need to use the "uplink" port (if available) on one switch, or a crossover cable between the two switches (if no uplink is available, some don't have them). Unless you get auto crossover switches like the some of the Cisco small business switches then this is done automatically
  18. I have 5.2 working on a USA region camera connected to my Hikvision DS-9616 NVR, no issues to report
  19. Hikvision camera firmware 5.20, it's like the Windows ME of software. 1 step forward and 3 steps back. What is your recommended combination of firmwares for the NVR/camera combo? I have been using 5.1.6 on all of my cameras, except one. That one uses 5.2.0, so far no issues, it works fine, but it is a USA region camera from Hikvision. That might have something to do with it.
  20. My first CCTV system was a ZModo DVR and cameras, analog, they sucked. I eventually bought GadSpot cameras to plug into the existing Zmodo DVR, it worked and they were a big improvement over the included "kit" cameras. Now I bought Hikvision, it was like going from a kid's toy to the real thing without spending a zillion dollars. Now I have Megapixel cameras, greatly improved functionality, good night vision, firmware that gets updated. It is a world of difference. Plus expansion to multiple DVRs/NVRs, Zmodo's CMS software would be incompatible with other models of ZMODO DVRS, junk, so each model Rev had its own CMS software package. I would not bother with anything from ZModo, Gadspot or any of the junk brands, the headaches just are not worth saving a few pennies

    Need ideas on CCTV system

You can get a NVR for under $350 that would handle up to 8 IP Cameras Now you just need to decide on cameras and how you are going to mount/wire them. I would look at IP cameras, analog is pretty much "dead" at this point
  22. Use 900MHz Wifi Best for 1/2 mile range. I have used 900MHz to connect buildings together at 48Mps links through dense trees, nothing else would even penetrate that, LOS (line of sight) even better. I have never done this (the camera setup), but I would look into a solar panel, battery, low wattage camera, and a 900MHz WiFi Bridge. And you would probably want to mount it to some sort of pole or mast. Never a cheap install but it will still be cheaper then running power/fiber in trench. I would find out what the budget is first. If the owner wants to spend $500, run away. This could easily end up costing 10x that.
  23. Using an Apple Time Capsule as a router sounds like a bad idea as well. I know Apple stuff can be a pain in the rear when interfacing with non Apple stuff. However I never understood the point of "wifi" cameras, you still have to run a wire for power, if you are going to do that, you might as well just run Cat6, use Power Over Ethernet and call it a day.
  24. That is why I upgraded my cameras from gadspot (junk) analog to hikvision IP cameras, a lot better and more clear picture for around $100 a camera, can't go wrong. Sure there will always be "better" stuff on the horizon and I might swap out a camera here and there but I have very pleased with these new megapixel cameras, the difference is night and day.
