  1. I checked out the No-ip site. It is built into the NVR as well.

For the free service it says the hostname expires every 30 days? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? What does it take to "re-verify" it?

Note: For United States Customers, HIK DDNS Server address is 173.200.91.74. For non U.S. customers,

please contact your corresponding Hikvision Branch for more information.

    Here is example for you

Which firmware version are you using and on which NVR? I am using version 2.3.9 beta and the network settings screen does not look like yours.

Also I asked how and where do you define the DDNS updating interval.

Actually, the way it works is you set the NVR or camera or PC (just one device per network) to update the DDNS information once a day.

How do you set the NVR DS-7604 DDNS service to update the DDNS provider once per day?

Do you imply that the NVR updates constantly on a predefined recurring schedule the DDNS provider? Assume that the updating interval is 1 hour. Therefore if the WAN IP changes just after the NVR update, then the NVR will not be accesible from the WAN for the next hour until the NVR updates the DDNS provider.

I have set it up for no-ip and it does not work.

The general question is "How does the NVR know that the WAN IP has changed in order to update the DDNS provider?" For example an ADSL router knows when a resync is happening and when it gets a new WAN IP it updates the DDNS provider. This is the ideal way.

In fact I have a no name chinese IP camera. I have setup the DDNS service for no-ip and when the router gets a new WAN IP the camera sends me an email with the new WAN IP after a few minutes. This is the ideal way for the DDNS provider updating.

  3. My DS-7608NI-SE / P has the BBRR and it upgraded to 2.3.8 with no problems.

Did you check if your flash drive was compatible?

What do you mean " ... flash drive was compatible"? The NVR recognised the USB memory stick, it started reading the firmware file and approximately at 50% progress it gave the error " Upgrading failed .... ".

From the previous post I am suspecting that it may not be possible to jump some firmware versions. I will try the 2.3.8 and if successfull then I will try the 2.3.9 beta.

  4. This might not matter but would linking that firmware be the "right one" for the OP...?

The reason I'm asking is that I bought the DS-7608NI-SE/P and it came with the same revision of firmware as the OP first noted ( V2.3.7 build 131112) and I was told by the seller over at Aliexpress to not use the USA firmwares but to use the EU ones and thus I upgraded my NVR to V2.3.7 Build 140609. That is the latest one on the Hikvision EU site for download.

The Image settings noted by the OP from his last picture shows the WDR etc functionality and this whole section is missing in the firmware I updated the NVR to.

Again I was advised not to use the US firmware as that would not be the right one for my NVR, but I do not know if that applies to the OP or even if it is valid...?

    I have the same experience.

I have a HIK DS-7604NI-SEP with serial number that contains the characters BBRR in the middle of the string. I tried to upgrade from firmware 2.3.7 build 131112 to the firmware 2.3.8 build 140513 from the USA HIK ftp site and it failed half way through with the message "Upgrading failed, no enough flash memory". It also failed when I tried the USA firmware 2.3.7 build 140122.

Careful these are the 5 versions of 2.3.7 available in total sorted by date.

Version 2.3.7 build 131112 from the European portal most commonly ecountered in many HIK 760X NVRs (file size 13.677.413

Version 2.3.7 build 140122 from the USA HIK ftp site (file size 14.831.804)

Version 2.3.7 build 140327 from the European portal (file size 15.461.588)

Version 2.3.7 build 140411 from the European portal (file size 15.456.928)

Version 2.3.7 build 140609 from the European portal (file size 14.270.397)

Then the following firmware versions followed (file size 14.830.554)

Version 2.3.8 build 140513 from the USA HIK ftp site (file size 14.209.552)

Version 2.3.9 build 140704 beta from the USA HIK ftp site

If anyone else has additional information or know anything better, please advise.

I only managed to upgrade with the latest European build 140609. I have NOT tried upgrading to 2.3.9 build 140704 beta yet.

What is this flash memory? Why smaller firmwares can not fit in the flash memory and the larger firmwares are acceptable and only from the European portal? Is there a connection with the 4 characters in the serial in the same way as the region in the cameras firmwares?

I urge anyone who has upgraded succesfully this NVR to inform us which model they have upgraded, the characters in the serial number and from which version firmware they upgraded to which version taking into account the above information of the firmware history.

  5. Yep, see this image for details.

Can you see in the NVR web interface the functionality which is under the section "Events" of the firmware later than 5.1.2 version such as Face detection, Traversing Virtual plane, Intrusion detection, scene change detection?

In other words teh questions are:

    1. which camera version do you have

    2. What are the 4 characters in the middle of your serial of the NVR and

    3. if you can see and control all the camera functionality from within the NVR interface with firmware 2.3.8.

  6. In the past I saw pictures of the internal DS-760X with different power supplies manufacturer in the google. This is normal for a manufacturer to have various suppliers for such a commoditised item as the power supply.

    Of course, this I understand.

You said some power supplies were under powered (had issues?).

Which PS and is there any discussion links about this?

I have not seen in the popular forums discussions about underated power supplies integrated in the NVRs with PoE switches. However I have discussed with many technicians and most of them do not understand that the sum of power consuption of all cameras connected to NVR must be less than the power capability of the PoE switch. Additionally since the power supplies are the most expensive component in any device (even the computers), the power quality varies with the design, the quality of the components, the manufacturing process and the quality control. Not all power supplies are made the same. I wonder why I have seen in many forums recommending to have an external PoE switch with a particular Zyxel model being very popular. Specifically TomsHardware, a popular computer forum, is publishing frequently computer power supplies reviews of many computer power supplies. It is interesting that some of them sol in many stores are blown after a few hours of operation.

Other than that, I have not seen specific NVR power supply reviews.

  7. in my nvr, i found a check box name "across net segment". does anyone know what is it , please tell me ???

What make and model is your NVR?

In which menu do you see this option?

Do you see the NVR interface through a web browser interface in a computer connected to the LN port of teh NVR OR do you see the NVR interface through a monitor connected to the rear side of the NVR (VGA or HDMI)?

  8. The power supply also seems to be changing between production batches, some of them being better or worse to supply the proper power to the cameras..

First I've heard of this... do you have any details on this?

In the past I saw pictures of the internal DS-760X with different power supplies manufacturer in the google. This is normal for a manufacturer to have various suppliers for such a commoditised item as the power supply.

  9. Thank you aster1x that is very helpful. Are there any suppliers who are reliable in supplying the proper 8 port poe version. I was thinking of going with E&M as they have had the most orders...

    Thanks

I do not have any experience with asian dealers. I am located in Europe and I bought a DS-7604NI-SEP from a Bulgarian dealer (low VAT). I wanted to have two SATA interfaces for two disks and they could not confirm if the specific model had the two inerfaces. Beware the DS-7604NI-S(E) i.e. with no internal PoE switch and an external power supply and one LAN port has ONE SATA interface. They were confusing the models and it took me alot of communications to make them undestand the differences in models and the one I wanted. Until they deleivered and I opened the case to see the two interfaces I was very uneasy.

The problem starts from the HIK manufacturer who does not have a clear model numbering convention, the lack of distributors support and training even the ones that are indicated in the HIK site. Even their firmware and software support is confusing. The latest camera firmware 5.2.0 appears only in the US FTP site with username and password which can be found from other users in the forum. This latest firmware is not listed in the official .com site or even the European portal. Each of the aforementioned sites list different different versions. On top of that the applicability of firmware according to region is not officially documented anyware (AFAIK). The region segmentation of their products is not mentioned in teh HIK sites either. Now this is not proper inernational support.

The plus of HIK is that it is (probably) one of the best of the chinese clan of hardware manufacturers in terms of manufacturing quality, they have rather frequent firmware updates and most importantly it has a large community of knowlegable people in the various forums that cover the lack of official support for free. How many consumers can afford the likes of Bosch, Grundig and other European based designers who manufacture in Asia (in general) and do their original design, prototyping, software development, quality control and support with expenive european labour?

As i suggested before, I advise you to prefer a dealer close to you in order to have proper and immediate support even if they do not know what they are selling.

  10. HI I am considering buying my first NVR and after some research am considering the Hikvision 7608 from AliExpress. I have 3MP POE cameras already so this would suite. Has anyone got any useful comments on my choice of NVR and more importantly on buying it from AliExpress. I am currently considering E&M Security as they have had the most orders but I did read someone saying that they received one with 8 ports but only 4 of them were POE!.

Any tips/advice would be great. THanks

The rumor you have heard is correct. The switch module inside the 760X NVRs is modular and can be changed.

Check the DS-7604NI-SEP internal picture. This is the 4 port PoE version DS-7604NI-SEP that also has two SATA inerfaces at the bottom left corner of the board (important). The right half of the board is the switch PoE module that can be changed.

Check now the internals of the DS-7608NI-SEP also with 2 SATA interfaces.

The right half of the board is the 8 poer PoE switch which is longer than the 4 port switch.

Unfortunately HIK does not differentiate the model numbers for the NVRs with 8 ports but only 4 of them being PoE capable.

The power supply also seems to be changing between production batches, some of them being better or worse to supply the proper power to the cameras.

It is very important to be able to check such things and have the appropriate support from the dealer you are buying.

  11. You can permanently convert a Chinese cam to an English cam with this code fix:

    http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=41225

I haven't used it myself (no Chinese cams) and am not sure of the cost, but reports have been good.

If i Understand correctly you have non chinese i.e. English region cameras. Can you tell us how does the serial look like? The chinese region cameras have CH in their serial. What does your English camera serial look like?
