  1. I would record CCTV 24/7 for the area. Then you are always covered with the cameras.

Then get a regular security system with two PIR's. I'm sure newer systems would also be able to send an email notification upon an alarm situation. They can also call a cell phone and say which alarm is going off.

The advantage of a regular security system is that it is designed to be turned on/off, connect to a siren, send the email, etc. And the advantage of NOT connecting it to the CCTV system is that some CCTV systems do not have any sort of alarm trigger or output connection.

Note you can spend a bit more on the PIR's and get a "dual technology" PIR. They have two sensors - Microwave and Passive-infra-red. Both must trigger before an alarm is triggered - prevents false alarms.

Thanks for your input. I was considering your advise at one time but since my DVR has both input and output connections I wanted to take advantage of that. It is already set up to send emails and a snapshot upon alarm. I didn't want to record the interior 2 cameras 24/7 while we were home. Mainly want them to record when we go away.

Thanks also for the advise on the PIR's. I have been looking at the duel technology units which seem to have come a long ways from years ago and will go with those.

  2. I have a CSP-8PRO960H with a total of 7 cameras and would like to do the following. BTY I am a retired electrician and have no trouble running wires.

I have 2 interior cameras in separate areas. Since I am having difficulties (previous post) on false alerts with lighting I would like to use a PIR in each of the 2 areas to trigger the camera in that area, set off a siren in that area and send a email alert. Is this possible?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Bob

  3. A light going on is going to trigger it...you will have to block off way to much to avoid the trigger..the more you block and or raise the sensitivity the more you risk missing footage...You need a camera with a PIR sensor like the hikvision 2432 or attach a pir sensor to your camera if it has an alarm input.

Thanks. I do have alarm inputs on the DVR. Can I use a pir that would be used in an burglar alarm system? How would I wire it?

    Thanks, I appreciate the input.

Yes you can..here is a basic example

    Thanks again, appreciate the help.

  5. It is that the picture has changed to something different than it was before - you now have a bright light when before there was no bright light!

Your system probably has a way to block out certain areas of what the camera's motion detection is seeing. Just block out the light portion of the picture so the camera's motion detection can't "see" it.

That will require reading the instruction manual several times probably. Also they don't include the full instructions with products these days, just short idiot versions. The FULL instructions might be on the manufacturer's web site. Also try reading the instructions for the manufacturer's other models - sometimes they word things differently in other manuals and it makes more sense.

Also might want to post your DVR brand and model number along with your posts.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I would have to block out to much of the area that the light shines on. I might be able to use a different light in a different area.

Thanks for helping to understand this.

  6. Thanks again for your input. I will try and play with some of those settings. Having been in the alarm business many years ago I would think that a setting for this situation makes perfect sense... a motion is detected, sends out an email alert with a "snapshot" and then resets unless a second motion is detected in say 10, 20, or 30 minutes later, or what ever you want.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  7. Thanks. I did try a "real" trigger and it does the same thing. Sorry I don't know how to include a screenshot but the menu has the following items...

    Channel

    Mode

    Image Size

    Quality

    Snapshot Frequency

I have the Snapshot Frequency set at 5 SPL the default was 1

Mode I have set for trigger

    Image size I have 960H

    Channel 6

    Quality 6 (best)

    Thanks,

    Bob

  8. Lol, it's funny you mention that Bob. Optimum was the cause for my bad pics too. It seems optimum has a problem with this chore. The specifics for gmail are as follows-

    SMTP Server- smtp.gmail.com

    Port- 465

User name- your gmail address name (ie. myname.gmail.com)

    Password- your gmail account password

    Sender- your same gmail address

Receiver- Whatever email addresss you want

Subject- make it whatever you want to say

Leave the rest at default. Hope this helps you.

Thanks so much for your help. Everything on Gmail worked great. Can't believe how long I have been playing with this and all along it was the ISP.

Wonder if you can help me with one more issue...my email alerts are set up for only 1 interior camera (when not home) I must have some setting wrong because when I cause a test alert there are multiple emails being sent, like 9 or 12. I do know that this system normally sends out 3 emails as follows...Motion Detect, Motion Detect w/pic, Motion Clear. How do I set how many times the alert sends emails?

    Thanks again,

    Bob

  9. Please help, think I posted on the wrong post.

I have a CSP-8PRO960H DVR and have pretty much set up everything but I am hoping someone can help me with emailing an event with a "snapshot" When an email is sent (actually) there are 3 emails. motion detect, motion with a .jpg and motion clear. When I open the "snapshot" .jpg only about 10% of the picture is viewable the other 90% is blank.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  11. can you forward me one of the emails? I'd like to check the code in the email.

This is what the email says.

    Event: Motion detect in video channel 6; Time:2014-09-05 13:22:01; Device:SV-HVR2898; IP Address:192.168.2.5

Below these words is a blank rectangle box. I have tried emailing to 3 different email accounts and a smart phone.

    Thanks for your help.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bob
