    FRAME and CIF

Can someone please tell me the difference between FRAME and CIF? My Dvr has both of these options and i don't know ehatr the difference is or which to use and why. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Also i have recorded content and the picture is a bit blurry,is there a simple solution to make this more clearer on this dvr. Dvr is AVC782 http://www.avtech.com.tw/english/product_13_782.htm

So is there a simple way for me to find out how many fps i am recording at?

    FRAME and CIF

photys Your post slightly confuses me as you say that i can record and then mention did you say earlier that D1 is Frame? and therefore should i be able to record at 25 fps on each cam? I will try and post some screenshots. You mention real time recordings with lower quality video is this done by using cif or another way?

    FRAME and CIF

@ken Yes you are correct, the live view is ok ish.But the recorded footage is not too clear. This is like you say probably "down to the dvr limiting things".But i were wondering if i can get a better image through better cameras then they might both improve. @photys I will try and drop to CIF and see what that looks like. Because i only have 2 cams and a 500gb hard drive then the frames is not an issue,so i would like to have as high as possible frames but not sure what to set it as.Can the image size also be set to get a clearer image maybe to something that the cam can handle?

    FRAME and CIF

I have another (Better) camcorder that i will try later and see if the quality is any better. What is the best settings to record on if i want smoothest possible playback? Also why does the image have to be converted to be viewed on a pc when it gives you software to play it? Very interesting read,i may have to look into this a bit more to see if i can find out which it is. Thanks

    FRAME and CIF

Thanks for you reply.I am using PAL and Frame and recording 720x576 (I think), i have changed to best and still the same.Am i correct in thinking that for the best results and quality i should record frame and at Best at the res stated earlier? Regarding "blur". I have cleaned lenses. they fixed lense and focus. Not sure of how many tvl they have. Also not sure if the cams can capture that res.Haven't got around to the cams yet, still using old ones but tried using a camcorder to see if the outcome was different and it still showed blurry. Still looking for some info on the GE- 480SHRAI-VF

  17. I am looking into getting a dvr to replace my video recorder but only have an old cctv camera and wondered if it would work with the dvr and what sort of quality would i get? As i know most of the cameras now work on 380 lines + and i don't know what my camera has [edit by mod - no links to stores please]. I will be changing the camera at a later date but wondered if i could change to dvr now.

    Dvr compatability?

Thanks for the info ken. The camera i have has does have RCA/phono connections on both the video and audio. The dvr 's i have been looking at do support audio, but i am more concerned about what the quality will be like on the dvr using this camera as i can't really afford to buy everything in one go.
  22. Been looking at the (Model: X4DVR/CD) as it has audio recording and cdr backup which i am looking for. Has anyone heard of these before or know if they are any good as i don't want to spend £300+ and find i have bought a poor piece of hardware. [edit by mod - no links to stores please] Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that info phred so am i right in thinking that anything but wavelet would be ok? @cachecreekcctv I were looking for a dvr with cdrw backup but are not totally convinced now whether it is the right way to go.
  24. Need the following spec.. DVR with the ability to record continously with 2 cameras Record sound from at least one camera Have either cd or dvd backup facility If possible have the playback to be as smooth as normal movie (Not jerky). Need to ability to have both cameras on seperate channels for viewing live at the same time without having to flick between them. How many fps equal smooth playback? Can i add my own hard drive and if so does it have to be a certain type? Do i have to format it or add software for it to work on the dvr? What format would the backyp be and can it be played on a dvd player?

    Dvr Recommendation?

phred You are correct i didn't quite understand it properly but now i do after reading your post thenks. It looks like i will stick with the choice of getting one with Cd and usb options. What is the best format to use when choosing a dvr as there seems to be a few to choose from ie.Wavelet/Mpeg2/Mpeg4 etc?
