yes, I agree. megapixel rocks. but the problem is the cost for most people, a good quality megapixel is still pricey and then add the software/server cost. most of my customers won't go for it. they want all for low $. so they get crappy cctv images that you cant see the required detail.

Have wondered if the higher end DVRs have that much better picture quality. Such as: Sanyo, Panasonic, Bosch, ARM and Toshiba. They are pretty costly compared to the lower end, which is the type of customer I usually get. of the compression std's that are used, MPEG-4, H.264, and M-JPEG, does the quality of the DVR yield a much clearer recording ? What am I getting in a higher end DVR to justify $2k-$5k cost ?? (assuming good cameras & lenses).

captain, I didn't realize your connection is direct USB 3G wireless. Once I looked up the Pantech UM175, I realized what you have. This won't work with the router I suggested, so hopefully you didnt order that. Usually you have cable or DSL for this type of setup. But I guess 3G is getting more popular these days. In your case, the USB modem is normally plugged into your laptop or computer, it isn't shared. So you need a 3G router.... With a quick internet search, there seems to be 3G Routers available. One from Netgear is MBR624GU, or D-Link DIR-451 or DIR-450 Try NewEgg they seems to have quite a few.

I've had good luck with D-LINK DIR-655 installed many of them, no problems. works good on DynDNS

yes, you will need a router that supports Dynamic DNS, which most do these days. Unless the Dynamic DNS is builtin function to the DVR, which is most likely is not. You will need to do two things with the router: 1. setup a port forward to connect the local IP address to port you will address from the browser (usually it is port 80) 2. setup Dynamic DNS to connect to your Dynamic DNS provider

you could try crossover mac, it allows you to run windows programs on mac os, without windows. CrossOver Mac

the web viewer uses ActiveX, which is only supported by IE. they do have a Java app for Java enabled phones, but never tried it. the last IE version for Mac OS was IE 5.x, then Microsoft killed IE on Mac.

Did you try taking out the battery ? The AverMedia support site said this... Please open the EB1004BAK casing and carefully remove the onboard battery. Wait about 10 minutes before putting the battery back again. This should reset the password to the factory default which is '111111'.

the fan replacement worked, but I had to splice the wires from the old fan connector. now that I've gone through all this, I think the main problem is that vent holes in the case are too small and creates a lot of back pressure on the fan. an easy fix to this would be to drill out the holes to larger ones or just cut out that section. but then it gets ghetto looking and probably will void any warranty.

the fan inside the Avermedia EB1304NET SATA is very hard to find. Avermedia doesn't sell it as a part, and searching for the exact replacement turned up nothing. So I am ordering a basic 3 wire 40x40x10mm fan and using the existing plug from the bad fan. hopefully that will work. The fan I ordered is Link Depot FAN-4010-B off amazon, in case someone is interested.

thanks. I emailed Avermedia tech support and they told me a replacement fan was not available. argh! Probably I can get a std size replacement as you suggested. If I find one, I will post back. def the fan it bad though...

I just installed the SATA version of the EB1304NET, and the cooling fan is making squealing noises just after running 1 week. I need to find where I can get a replacement fan. Anybody have any sources or part numbers for this fan ? The supplier said I'd have to send it in to Avermedia, but it's working fine and I don't want to bring down the DVR because of the fan.

i am not an expert, but as long as you are not recording audio, and not zooming in intentionally to someone's bedroom, then general surveillance to protect your property and belongings is within your rights. ask yourself the basic question, "Am I violating someone's privacy of their own home ?" if the answer is no, then you are probably in the clear.

yes I have had this problem too...with built in IR. spider webs and dried rain drops...cause a haze on the glass, reflecting the IR back into the camera and killing the view. separate IR illuminator is the way to go. Get the strongest you can afford.

hi, Looking to implement a system with OnSSI NetDVR with around 15 ip cams. 11 being 3 M pixel and 4 PTZ 640x480. This will be on it's own gigabit LAN. NVR pretty beefy Xeon 2.33 Ghz Dual Core, 4GB RAM, 1033 FSB, 3 TB disk space! Clients will connect by web access. There will be 1 monitor client on the LAN, but the rest will login via internet. My question is, how well can I expect the clients to work via web access ? assuming a high speed DSL or Cable connection with fixed IP. Is this going to be doggy ? they don't want the cameras to be on the company LAN. Any suggestions ? Anyone doing the same thing ? thanks for your comments..

wondering if anyone had poor performance with Arecont 3100DN at night ? It seems that the Arecont sensor has poor IR response. I have a Tamron IR lens installed currently, also tried a Computar IR lens as well. Even with very strong IR lamps, I cannot get much illumination of the area. If I turn on the "moonlight" mode, the illumination is much better, however the exposure time is very long and pretty useless for anything moving. However with the IQinvision 752, the IR lamps light up the area with no problem. (LightGrabber is disabled). Adding even 1x LightGrabber gives much better illumination, without too much exposure time increase. Comparing both camera night images, the Arecont 3100DN is almost black, whereas the IQ 752 shows the same area quite clearly, without any IR lamps. Unless there is something wrong with the Arecont setup, I think this camera is not very good for night viewing. During the day it is fine, and has very clear images.

also depends on whether you are doing motion detection in the s/w. that would require an estimate of how many hours there is motion, and the % detection of motion.

Robert, did you try closing the Iris a tiny bit ? I assume you have it wide open. you might get a slight better depth of field and better focus when its bright. otherwise I agree with the others, image not that bad.

hi, Need to cover a large outdoor area and considering using IP PTZ cameras. But wondering how well motion detection works in the NVR with the programmed patrol patterns.. Can this work reliably without generating lots of FPs ?
